This is what our music curators are listening to this week on Pandora!

New Artist Additions

DJ Cassidy
A New York DJ who is known for his work at celebrity functions, including the 50th birthday party and 2009 inauguration of President Obama, and the 2008 wedding of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. He is gearing up for his debut album Paradise Royale, out in June, where he will bring together a 14-piece string section and musicians like Nile Rodgers (Chic), Ray Parker Jr., Mary J. Blige, Chromeo, Estelle, Cee Lo Green, Robin Thicke, Jessie J and more. His recently dropped single “Make The World Go Round” features a guest appearance by R. Kelly.

Nightbringer are one of those rare black metal bands that can swirl their cacaphony of guitar maelstroms to sound like a beautiful orchestra of evil. With equal parts restraint and tantrum, they’re absolute masters at reining in their chaos. Also, their singer sounds like he can gargle glass and barf blood into a Shure SM-58 microphone.

Hippie Sabotage
You asked for it, you got it! A popular artist search on Pandora, Hippie Sabotage are Experimental Hip Hop producers (and brothers) from San Diego most notable for their work with Tove Lo on her hit track “Habits.” Their latest EP Sunny is their foray into chiller, more atmospheric territory, weaving a moody tapestry of synths, samples and bass-heavy percussion around an unknown female vocalist’s rendition of Bobby Hebb‘s soul classic of the same name.

New Album Additions

John FrusciantScreen Shot 2014-05-09 at 2.47.15 PMeEnclosure
Citing this new release as his “last word on the musical statement that began with PBX,” the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist loaded this album onto an experimental satellite and launched it into space, circling the globe for 7 days. This brings a whole new meaning to “out of this world”!

The globally popular composer is back with a new album, performing his most renowned instrumental works now with newly-created lyrics performed by acclaimed opera stars like Renee Fleming, Placido Domingo, Rolando Villazon and Katherine Jenkins.

Oldies Curator

I dig all things ‘60s: garage punk, obscure psych, Stax and Motown soul stompers. My first CD purchases were REM’s Out of Time and Boyz II Men’s Cooleyhighharmony. I still own both! I’m pretty much immersed in music – hitting up local record shops, catching live shows at crusty dives, and DJing around town at various venues and bars.

Where are some of the new jazz, country, classical, and albums in other genres that may have come in and are being listened to? There's got to be much more than the rock, hip hop, and EDM we see so much of here anyway. Could you write about more genres and styles than just what is 'popular'?
