Hey all, it’s Party Ben, your friendly neighborhood dance curator. I’m sure you’ve seen our “Thumb Hundred” station with our most-thumbed songs of the year, but I wanted to dig a little deeper and see what fans of dance music liked, with an eye on artists to watch for next year. So here’s what I did: I grabbed our most-played 2015 releases and pulled out the top 10 (or so) tracks in five big genres. Turns out there were some surprises! Let’s start with dubstep.

Pandora’s Top 10 Dubstep Songs of 2015

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 12.31.34 PM1. Excision – “Codename X”
2. Excision – “Robo Kitty” (Feat. Downlink)
3. Pegboard Nerds  – “Try This”
4. O.T. Genasis – “CoCo” (Borgore Remix)
5. Jetta – “I’d Love To Change The World” (Matstubs Remix)
6. Bassnectar – “Speakerbox” (Feat. Lafa Taylor)
7. Capital Kings – “Into Your Arms”
8. Yogi & Skrillex – “Burial” (Feat. Pusha T, Moody Good, & TrollPhace)
9. Seven Lions – “December” (Feat. Davey Havok)
10. Borgore – “Cant Squad With Us”
Canadian producer Excision dominated with two tracks from his February release Codename X, but up-and-comers made an impact too: Monstercat signee Pegboard Nerds and DC duo Capital Kings are definitely artists to watch in 2016. Next up, trap:

Pandora’s Top 10 Trap Songs of 2015

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 1.14.46 PM1. DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge – “You Know You Like It”
2. Flo Rida – “GDFR” (Feat. Sage The Gemini & Lookas) (K. Theory Remix)
3. Hermitude – “The Buzz” (Feat. Big K.R.I.T., Mataya & Young Tapz)
4. Dawin – “Dessert”
5. Skrillex & Diplo – “Where Are U Now” (Feat. Justin Bieber) (Marshmello Remix)
6. Diplo – “Revolution” (Feat. Faustix & Imanos And Kai) (Unlike Pluto Remix)
7. What So Not – “Gemini” (Feat. George Maple)
8. Alison Wonderland – “Run”
9. Alison Wonderland – “U Dont Know” (Feat. Wayne Coyne)
10. Flosstradamus & TroyBoi – “Soundclash”

No surprises at the top: DJ Snake’s rework of AlunaGeorge has racked up nearly 120 million spins on Pandora since its January debut. If Aussies Hermitude and Alison Wonderland and South London hot shot TroyBoi weren’t on your radar before, they should be now. On the remix front, Marshmello and Unlike Pluto pumped out quality tracks all year long, and I can’t wait to see what they do in 2016. Now, let’s get deep:

Pandora’s Top 11 Deep & Future House Tracks of 2015

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 2.01.13 PM1. Calvin Harris & Disciples – “How Deep Is Your Love”
2. Diplo & Sleepy Tom – “Be Right There”
3. Sam Feldt – “Show Me Love” (EDX’s Indian Summer Radio Mix)
4. Sons Of Maria – “You & I” (Radio Mix)
5. RUFUS DU SOL – “You Were Right”
6. Sigala – “Easy Love”
7. SNBRN – “Raindrops (Feat. Kerli)” (Radio Edit)
8. Duke Dumont – “Won’t Look Back” (Radio Edit)
9. Tchami – “Promesses (Feat. Kaleem Taylor)” (Radio Edit)
10. Zeds Dead & Oliver Heldens – “You Know” (Radio Edit)
11. Joe Weller – “Wanna Do” (Feat. Emil)

Not surprisingly, two EDM superstars, Calvin Harris and Diplo, are on top, but I was stoked to see mysterious Barcelona project Sons of Maria do so well with their Tracy Chapman-sampling “You & I,” definitely keep an eye on them in 2016. Aussie combo RÜFÜS took off with their melancholy “You Were Right”; their second full length drops in January and I suspect it’ll be a smash. I expanded the chart to include #11, British YouTube phenom Joe Weller, whose infectious “Wanna Do” spent much of the fall dominating our Deep House station. Now let’s grab a fruity cocktail and check out Tropical House:

Pandora’s Top 10 Tropical House Tracks of 2015

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 3.24.44 PM1. Tove Lo – “Talking Body” (Gryffin Remix)
2. Lost Frequencies – “Are You With Me” (Radio Edit)
3. Kygo – “Stole The Show”
4. Alina Baraz & Galimatias – “Fantasy” (Felix Jaehn Remix)
5. Felix Jaehn – “Dance With Me” (Feat. Thallie Ann Seenyen) (Radio Edit)
6. Matoma & The Notorious B.I.G. – “Old Thing Back” (Feat. Ja Rule And Ralph Tresvant)
7. Robin Schulz – “Sugar” (Feat. Francesco Yates)
8. Marvin Gaye – “Sexual Healing” (Kygo Remix)
9. Klingande – “Riva” (Restart The Game) (Feat. Broken Back) (Radio Edit)
10. Kygo – “ID” (Ultra Music Festival Anthem)

White-hot producer Gryffin’s remix of Tove Lo was so hypnotic and lovely, it deserves to be here even if it’s a bit of a stretch to call it tropical. Look for big things from Gryffin in 2016. Not surprisingly, reigning trop house king Kygo shows up at #3, #8 and #10, but up-and-comers Matoma and Felix Jaehn should keep making waves next year. Well! This has all been so exciting, let’s chill out a bit.

Pandora’s Top 15 Chill & Indie Tracks of 2015

2. Alina Baraz & Galimatias – “Maybe”
3. Alina Baraz & Galimatias – “Show Me”
4. Alina Baraz & Galimatias – “Can I”
5. Alina Baraz & Galimatias – “Unfold”
6. Purity Ring – “Begin Again”
7. Jamie xx – “I Know There’s Gonna Be” (Good Times) (Feat. Young Thug & Popcaan)
8. Purity Ring – “Bodyache”
9. Cashmere Cat – “Adore” (Feat. Ariana Grande)
10. Vallis Alps – “Young”
11. Mocki – “Weekend” (Jai Wolf Remix)
12. Hippie Sabotage – “Able To See Me”
13. Snakehips – “Gone” (Feat. Syd)
14. Melanie Martinez – “Sippy Cup”
15. Ratatat – “Cream On Chrome”

This list would have been a bit silly if I didn’t open it up to a Top 15, since the Denmark/LA combo of Alina Baraz & Galimatias had the top five to themselves. In fact, their catalog racked up an astonishing 137 million spins on Pandora in 2015. If they keep this up I might retire them from the chart next year like Oprah! Some up-and-comers to watch on this chart: Aussie/US combo Vallis Alps, Berlin trio Mocki, and London duo Snakehips.

Let me know your personal favorites in the comments, and here’s to a great year in music!

I'm the dance/electronic guy at Pandora. I'm a fan of everything from drum 'n' bass to Boards of Canada to deep house to Tame Impala. I also like old Honda motorcycles, various whiskeys, and real fake doors.
