We’ve made a handful of changes tonight at Pandora. Among these are one you can just barely see, and one you can’t see at all.
The first is a tiny (some would say almost invisible) progress indicator underneath the album art for the currently playing song to give you an idea of how much time is left in the song. It’s just a tiny little stripe. Look for it closely.
The other change is a pretty big one, but you won’t be able to see it at all. You’ll have to listen for it. We’ve updated our playlist engine to play a greater variety of music on your stations. For some time we’ve known that we weren’t playing the full breadth of songs in the Music Genome Project collection. This was a problem with our approach to playlist generation; it really didn’t have anything to do with the size of the collection itself. We’ve been hard at work on this, and tonight we’re rolling out a significant upgrade to the playlist generator. Don’t expect to notice a big change right away, in fact it might take a few hours of listening before you notice at all, but it’s there. Your stations really will be playing all kinds of music that they wouldn’t have before. Hope you enjoy the new music.
One other feature in this release that’s worth pointing out is a new choice in Guide Us: “I’m tired of this song.” Let’s face it, there are some great songs out there that we’ve all heard just one too many times. Now there’s a way to tell Pandora that you’ve heard something one too many times: just click Guide Us and select the “I’m tired of this song” choice and we’ll put the current song back on the shelf and not play it again on any of your stations in the next 30 days.
As always, this release has a number of other subtle little changes; my favorite this time out is that the songs fade out as you skip or change stations. Just another tiny little detail.

I had this experience: The song that was playing was nearing the end, but I clicked on "Guide Us" and "I'm tired of this song - don't play it for a month." Pandora started playing the next song and immediately skipped it. Obviously it chose the wrong song, and there's nothing I can do about it. The UI doesn't let us delete songs from the list of songs set to not play for a month. More importantly, I think y'all should let users set how great a variety of music they want on their stations. Previous to this latest change, Pandora was already typically adding over a hundred songs for every song a user added to a station. I'm not looking for a "Top 40" station of my own top 40 -- but if I *were* to input my favorite 40 songs into a station, Pandora would add over 4,000 more. My station would then consist of over 4,040 songs, 99% of which I've showed no particular interest in. The CEO of another corporation once said, loosely quoted, 'the quickest way to profit is to serve the customer the way the customer wants to be served. That corporation became the world's largest (GM). I'm not opposed to Pandora's mission of exposing us to music we like, or have forgotten about. I'd just like the power to adjust the ratio of songs I've requested, to songs the analysts have deemed similar to them -- within limits, of course, due to Pandora's license.

Hi Bob-tuba, You're completely right here. We goofed by not letting you go back in and edit the list of "on the shelf" songs. I'm sure we'll correct that in a future relese. We're working to give you as much control as we can within the confines of the "radio like" licenses -- one of the key limits is that we just can't play a station that consists of exactly the music you've specified. Having said that, you'll see us working to give you more fine grained control over what plays as the product matures -- it's just that it's a balancing act for us. Tom CTO @ Pandora

Pleeeeaase solve this as soon as possible, I have so many songs I've accidentally put on the shelf, and its songs that I wait for for hours to play. :(

PLEASE include "Remove from shelf," or something of the sort in an upgrade very soon. I just put one of my FAVORITE songs on the shelf.....mistakenly. I'm sure I've probably done it before because it's so simple (especially with that choice being in line with the swipe to see songs played). Please place this on the top of the list of enhancements for 2015. It's been quite a while since the potential "miss" was identified. Thanks for such a great listening experience! I've listened to the same station at work for over three years. Rating songs over time has created the PERFECT Playlist of songs for work. I appreciate the efforts and upgrades thus far. My station is the business! ;-)

Is Pandora open to audience suggestions for new bands to add to the library? A couple of times, I have tried to create a new station, but Pandora didn't recognise the band... I'm sure lots of other listeners know some great bands that aren't in the library as well. (Sorry if there is already a post about this, I had a quick browse but couldn't find one!)

Hi Alexis, We'd love to hear your ideas about what we should be including in the Music Genome. Just sent us your thoughts to suggest-music@pandora.com. Ideally you'd send artist, album, and song recommendations -- all are helpful. Tom CTO @ Pandora

Tom or anyone else, Just did the 2007 Norton Upgrade. I read your earlier post about the ad blocking problem being fixed. Doesn't seem to be for latest Norton and latest browsers. I can't do the fix on the new IE or the new Foxfire. Any suggestions. Dying to get access back to Pandora. Thanks David

Hi all. Love your work!!! Thanks for Pandora!!! Few bugs to report: Recently I can't seem to edit my stations at all. I can go to the edit station page and see all the artists in a station line up, and the songs I have thumbed-up etc., but when I check an artist and say remove, the page reloads in less thn a second, and nothing happens, it does not implement my changes. Also I used Pink Floyd to create a station, and added Led Zepplin, and the station has taken a different direction than what I wanted. So I love the station and want to keep it, but whenever I use Pink Floyd to create a new station Pandora tells me 'we are now creating etc.', but then loads the first station, which I have renamed... Please help.... Thanks
