Welcome to Volume 1 of “No Mainstream Fridays,” a weekly listing of songs that are
1. worth listening to
2. probably not being featured elsewhere at the moment
3. would be mainstream if there were such a thing
Without further ado:
“Got to Get the Nerve” by Field Music – for fans of early xtc. My favorite record of the year so far.

“The Fence Feels its Post” by Frog Eyes – sorry, I just can’t explain the complex brilliance of this band. It’s just chills from start to finish… passion from Victoria Island in British Columbia.
“Our Love Lives” by Impossible Shapes – absolute brilliance! every time one of these songs comes on, I freak out.
“Internal Crash” by Loquat – beautiful pop from sf!
“Melody 1” by Tera Melos – incredible instrumental avant indie stuff.
“Crushed Bones” by WHY? – yoni wolf is a hip-hop ray davies!
and speaking of ray davies:
“Dedicated Follower of Fashion” by The Kinks
And from the more recent past:
“Subterranean Homesick Alien” by Radiohead.
I recently listened to OK Computer again and was surprised to discover that I might well think it’s the best record ever made (and yes, that includes the untouchables: Sgt Peppers and Pet Sounds).
Happy Friday!! Have great weekends! And maybe go out this weekend and buy these records, so as to hear these amazing songs in their natural habitat. I’ll post more next Friday!

This is a magnificent idea! I appreciate the excitement you bring to Pandora as founders, and the very deliberate attention you pay to listeners and their tastes and preferences. Keep fine tuning it and you will have loyal fans and listeners forever. Gary

love the proof of complexity & chaos & paradox & serendipity & every theory everyone has about reality. so - being a girl geek & running a management consultancy - in a way that plays with theory and passion and reality - was I pleased to find you guys?????????????????????Oh Yeh so - I found you - and bless ( an irish thing). Love how a few men can make an idea a reality thru passion & hard work. Found you 2 days ago and have networked you to an amazing group of people across 3 continents. Sent the url to a guy friend who is an amazing muso - and he was excited - we are all in the west of ireland. so - I'm having drinks with another girl geek tonight ( and the west of ireland rocks for every age and gender) and she says 'Peter sent me this amazing site and it is....pandora' so - did I tell her that I'd given Pete the link? mmmmmmmmmmm - YES!!!And did she know I had found the link ------nooooooooooooooo What is it about men that they OWN information - Pete and me and my friend are best mates - and he owned the Pandora info without saying to her that I had found the link. Yeh -I hear you -relax Liz - and - I'm an IT geek and so are they and I'd acknowledge an amazing site they had found. Yeh - I have a life -and it is full of great experiences and champers and scarey stuff and risk ....... and the space between 2 trapezes ... and passion .... and real values that are mine and may not be yours. And ... I love the power of music for people like me that aren't afficionados ... music geeks. so ........ for people like me ... IT geeks and music lovers but not really informed ... this site is amazing. And tonight I told complete IT phobes (in an old amazing pub in the west of ireland - yup it's a great life)about Pandora.com ... and they were taking notes!!!!! First principle people - acknowledge your sources - particularly if it's between geek friends - really - do you think we don't talk to each other. xxxxxxx liz

Hi...The local paper Arizona Tribune just had a brief article about on line music and mentioned your web site. I am blown away with the range of music your library contains as I am a lover of jazz singers many of them now no longer with us. You have just changed my listening habits and I have my computer tuned to you as soon as I fire it up. My buddies, most of us seniors are also flipping out over your content. Thank You, Thank you...for setting up such a wonderful site. Between Michael Buble,Dianna Krall, Dinah Washington,Ella, and Joe Williams I am in Jazz Singing heaven...Ned
