Dear Listeners,

privacy_settings_popup_4.jpg

We’ve just updated our site to make it easier for you to find and adjust your privacy settings. We thought it was important to make this adjustment to better reflect the realities of the internet today. If you’re a returning listener you’ve probably already seen a reminder about your Pandora profile page, something we’ve offered since we launched.

This reminder provides you with the immediate opportunity to see your profile, make it public, private, or learn more. If you click on ‘Learn More,’ you’ll be taken to some FAQs.

New listeners will see a similar message when they register and we’re in the process of sending emails to the folks who listen to Pandora exclusively on mobile devices, encouraging them to access their Pandora account on a computer to check out our new privacy features.

All profile pages on Pandora now have a prominent ‘Privacy Settings’ link on the upper right. These settings let you specify how public you want your profile to be and, if you’re a Facebook user – whether or not you’d like to import your information from Facebook to Pandora.

We’re big believers in the social aspect of music discovery and sharing and want to make it as easy as possible, but we also want to make sure we respect each listeners’ personal comfort when it comes to this. It is our sincere hope that this new format does just that!

As always – we welcome your feedback about this. It’s a very important issue to us and we want to get it right.

Thanks for taking the time to read this through – and keep on listening!

– Tim (Founder)

Excellent. Thanks Tim! Question: Can we make a comment on a song or artist bio and still have our profile be private? For instance, if I comment on an artist, does that mean someone can click on my name, visit my profile page, and make a comment on my profile?

On Ubuntu Google Chrome, that Pandora profile question layer won't go away. I can't use Pandora's web site to play now. I did manage to get to my Profile and make it private, but the profile layer is still appearing.

Thanks Tim! What is the deal with the lack of "thumbs up" songs appearing in somewhat frequent rotation on a personal station? I have thumbed up over 200 songs on a station, but certain specific songs that I have not thumbed up seem to appear more frequently than songs I actually rated thumbs up. Very odd behavior for the algorithm, you should look into it. If there is one thing I wish is that you gave the ability to ban an entire artist's catalog. there are times based on things I like, i get a plethora of songs from an artist that I don't care for, but I constantly have to "thumb down" the individual songs. By allowing to ban an artist as well as like an artist, the algorithm could be even better at suggesting songs.

Hello Pandora, I'm sorry, but there seems to be a fundamental problem here. Before this pop-up window, I had no idea that there was a profile page that was public by default. I had no idea that my musical choices were being broadcast to the world. And, only now do I learn that if I had used the same email address for Pandora as for Facebook, some Facebook information might appear on my profile, automatically, without asking for my permission??? Haven't you learned anything from the recent debacles with Facebook? I am now going to stop using Pandora, as I feel that there has been a serious violation of trust. Regards, Tony

How do I get rid of the privacy popup? It covers the screen and I don't see an option to turn it off - I can't believe I'm the only one who has this question

Waiting for someone to slap me for taking this long to discover Pandora. I absolutely love it! I do agree with Santa that banning an artist would be cool.
