For SXSW’s Friday menu, Pandora offers hearty courses of tangy, twangy Americana – beginning with a serving of Andrew Combs’ sophisticated songs. You’ll detect hints of Ryan Adams on the surface, but the deeper flavors recall Guy Clark and Mickey Newbury.

Follow this up with a side of Israel Nash’s desert folklore. Dripping with buttery vocal inflections and timeless guitar tones, Nash cooks up the kind of Neil Young inspired love songs that would make Lucinda Williams blush.

After some New Orleans flavored country-soul courtesy of The Deslondes, husband-and-wife duo Whitehorse will be offering up a more modern take on Americana by infusing their high-lonesome harmonies with loops and beats.

And if you can’t get enough of those creamy vocal harmonies, you’ll fall head-over-heels for Della Mae. This all female “newgrass” quintet steeps satiating singer-songwriter melodies in a rich rue of rustic stringband sounds.

If you’ve ever wondered how Kansas City flavors differ from Texan twang, just sample some offerings by Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear. There’s a pinch of blues and soul to their sound that opens up all their other flavors.

Jamestown Revival will be bringing some serious sonic skills to our feast. They somehow make back-porch folk songs rock as if The Lumineers were born in the kitchen of CCR. Similarly, Houndmouth have a penchant for balancing those familiar flavors with innovative ideas of the bearded indie variety.

So, you think Sturgill Simpson reminds you of Waylon Jennings? Wait until you get a taste of Whitey Morgan & the 78’s! Where Simpson crafts “country for people who don’t like country,” Morgan unapologetically cooks up classic, outlaw, biker twang.

Don’t forget your greens! Should you find all this meaty, southwestern cuisine to be a bit filling, Green River Ordinance provides lighter organic melodies of the guitar-pop variety doused in a tangy, southern, spring dressing.
