One of this winter’s most anticipated releases is David Bowie‘s 24th studio album, his first in 10 years, The Next Day, featuring the lead single “Where Are We Now.” Also look out for a new album from Justin Timberlake, who recently announced his first release in years, The 20/20 Experience. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are also reuniting for their fifteenth studio album, Push the Sky Away, their first not featuring founding member Mick Harvey, who departed the band in January 2009.

Some of the year’s most anticipated debut albums will be dropping within the next few months. With an EP and mixtape already under her belt, rapper Azealia Banks will release her first studio album, Broke With Expensive Taste. American Idol finalist Colton Dixon will follow in the footsteps of Jason Castro, Casting Crowns and Coldplay, with his debut album, A Messenger. His single “You Are” has already peaked at number 20 on the US Hot Christian songs chart. Rounding out this quarter’s debuts is former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who signed with Warner Music for the release of his first solo album, The Messenger. Since parting ways with The Smiths in 1987, Marr has had stints in bands like Modest Mouse, The The, The Cribs in addition to collaborating with Hans Zimmer on the Oscar-nominated score to Inception.

This winter season will also feature some huge collaboration projects. Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am has collaborated with artists like Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, David Guetta and Busta Rhymes, amongst others, for the upcoming #willpower. The lead single, “T.H.E. (Hardest Ever)” features guest vocals from both Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger. Popular Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will release Passione, an album of Mediterranean love songs featuring duets with Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado and a virtual duet with Edith Piaf. Thom Yorke and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea have teamed up to form the experimental super-group Atoms For Peace, whose debut album, Amok, was recorded over a three-day jam session. Americana stars Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell collaborated on a new album entitled Old Yellow Moon and will head out soon on a spring tour to support it. Lastly, DJ/producer Diplo‘s musical project Major Lazer will embark on a world tour to support his new album, Free the Universe with guests Santigold, Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig and Dirty Projectors‘ Amber Coffman.

In addition to the artists above, look out for winter releases from: Aaron Neville, Ashanti, Autechre, Devendra Banhart, Justin Bieber (Believe Acoustic), Buckcherry, J. Cole, Harry Connick Jr., Eels, Josh Groban, Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Local Natives, Lisa Loeb, Tim McGraw, Red, Boz Scaggs, Tegan and Sara, They Might Be Giants and Julieta Venegas.

I dig all things ‘60s: garage punk, obscure psych, Stax and Motown soul stompers. My first CD purchases were REM’s Out of Time and Boyz II Men’s Cooleyhighharmony. I still own both! I’m pretty much immersed in music – hitting up local record shops, catching live shows at crusty dives, and DJing around town at various venues and bars.
