Let’s face it – there’s nothing worse than ending the workday only to get stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the way home. Sometimes the only thing that keeps you from succumbing to full-fledged road rage is having a chill soundtrack in your car. Lucky for you, Pandora’s New Indie station is overflowing with some dreamy songs that will keep you relaxed and make your commuting nightmare feel like a sonic daydream.
1. Black Marble– “Iron Lung”
Black Marble is truly one the most underrated bands around. After taking a four-year musical hiatus, they have returned with a dreamy new track. The dark synthy sounds will make you feel like you’re in a Sofia Coppola film. Feel free to put it on repeat and dance around your bedroom once you finally make it home.
2. Hazel English– “Never Going Home”
Since late last year, Oakland’s own Hazel English has been gracing the presence of all the popular blogs. The overtly fuzzy melodic guitar and hazy vocals make this song a true dream pop masterpiece. Turn up this wistful lo-fi track and you’ll be staring out of your car window longingly, fantasizing about your next vacation.
3. Sam Evian– “Sleep Easy”
“Sleep Easy” is the first single to be released from Sam Evian’s forthcoming, inaugural, full-length album. Here, he perfects the art of bearing one’s soul to the smooth sound of twangy music. This is modern yacht rock at its finest. Sit back in your car and just vibe out to Evian’s chill (yet timeless) sound.
4. IAN SWEET– “#23”
What started as a solo project (and a personal labor of love) for Jillian Medford (pseudonym IAN SWEET), has now gained a massive underground following. The hooky, pop-grunge tunes and passionate vocals make this song an undeniable hit. Avoid screaming at the bozo tailgating you and belt out these emotional lyrics at the top of your lungs instead.
5. Moose Blood– “Sway”
Moose Blood is the perfect example of a band that defies genre classification. Combining elements of dream pop and British emo-punk, this track is a perfect mix of hypnotic, shoegaze-driven, guitar mixed with the rawness of classic emo vocals. Blast this bad boy once you finally break through that traffic and start cruising at full speed again.
