SPZRKT (pronounced Spazzy Rocket) is Xavier Adams, a 24 year-old R&B singer who three years ago, auditioned for The Voice, America’s Got Talent and American Idol but never made it past the first round. Now under his moniker, his eclectic debut album Bonfire is drawing comparisons to artists like John Legend, Gnarls Barkley and MGMT.
The Artwoods were an English rock, R&B and freakbeat band that were active between 1964-1967 and was fronted by Arthur Wood, the brother of Ronnie Wood (of the band Faces and later The Rolling Stones). The band released seven singles and one studio album on the Decca and Parlophone labels, including “What Shall I Do” and “In The Deep End.” They also put out a handful of R&B/blues covers like Leadbelly’s “Sweet Mary” and Sam & Dave’s “I Take What I Want.” But they never landed a hit despite having a formidable reputation as a live attraction.
So What is a San Francisco and Oakland based quartet who aptly describe their sound as “hard gum.” They effortlessly blend the early 1970s inspired hard attack of post-skinhead “smoothie” rock like Coloured Balls, The Equals and Slade with the catchy, sticky bubblegum hooks of same-era acts such as Sweet, Hello and The Bay City Rollers.

Gallagher’s first album since his Looking for Intelligent Life tour in 2011, I Am Who I Pretend To Be was recorded as part of his 2014 farewell tour.

Robin Williams – Reality…What a Concept! & Throbbing Python of Love
In the wake of his tragic and untimely death, two early out-of-print Robin Williams albums have been re-released. His Grammy winning 1979 album Reality…What a Concept! And his 1983 follow-up Throbbing Python of Love are Williams at his manic best, ricocheting from character to character without missing a beat. Both are now spinning on Pandora, so be sure to listen for Williams’ riffs on Soviet communism, white wine, Hollywood life and his Elmer Fudd/Bruce Springsteen mashup.
