podcast_mic.jpgOur new show is all about words. How do your favorite lyricists choose those lines and phrases that hit you square in the chest? Why do older words have a different effect than newer additions to the dictionary? How can sense imagery go beyond sight, smell, taste and touch, into the territory of position, motion and proximity? Michael Zapruder joins me to tackle these issues and more, using examples from such songwriters as Eminem, Joni Mitchell, Why?, Shane MacGowan from the Pogues, Dr. Octagon, Clipse, Leonard Cohen and David Berman from the Silver Jews.
All of our free original shows are there to hear and watch at the homepage for Pandora Presents… Pandora.com/show.

I think that lyrics are a key ingredient to how we respond to music. Yet it is not an obvious part of masterful pandora equation that picks music for me. Is there a way to incorporate the theme of the lyrics into the equation? I think that pandora is amazing don't get me wrong, though if lyrics are not already an element in the pandora genius I would recommend adding it. Thanks for everything!! Tara

Are you open to people (such as myself) to creating a Pandora Google Gadget? We love Pandora here at our office and think a Gadget would be a great idea. Especially since when a client leaves our shop, we set their home page to ours. Our new home page will be featuring Google Gadgets and we would love to feature Pandora on there. Do you have any utilities to help in this? Or is there one already done that I'm unaware of?

Tara: Lyrics are absolutely integral to the genome. We look at the lyrics of every song we analyze, so yes, the words play a major role. PC Med Center: I'll forward your request to Pandora Support. I would for your msg, Spring, but you didn't leave an email address... Sal: Well-put. Agreed about Lou Reed's lyrics fitting that music so well. Slainte.
