Pandora on the Road: Washington, DC

Welcome to Roadtrip Central! This is a continuing chronicle of my journey around the country, as I meet with Pandora listeners and musicians to learn about what you want to see happen with music in this digital age. I hope you enjoy reading about my past stops - from a three person meet-up in a Biloxi diner to a packed get-together in a huge MIT lecture hall.

I hope you'll take a minute to share your favorite bands, clubs, lodging and eateries in your city. If you don't see your state on the blog, just post to 'Other States' and I'll make a note to try and visit! I look forward to meeting and hearing from you!

Cheers...

Free Benefit Show In DC this Tuesday (July 22): Jazz Legend Dr. Michael White

camera

For our friends in the DC area, we are very pleased to announce a great show that will be happening this Tuesday, July 22.

Dr. Michael White, a masterful jazz clarinetist and one of the nation's leading jazz scholars, will be playing a free concert at the Center for the Preservation of Jazz & Blues. While there is no fee for admission, donations are encouraged to support the Renew Our Music Fund, a great cause working to preserve the rich musical legacy of New Orleans.

White himself -- here is his Pandora Backstage page -- is a native of New Orleans, and his music is steeped in the deep traditions of Crescent City blues, brass bands, and classical composition. He will be joined at this show by some great players as well: Howard Kadison, David Sager, Donn Andre, Tom Gray and Marty Frankel.

This concert is presented by BMI and the Digital Media Association (DiMA), in partnership with SaveNetRadio.org. Pandora is a proud member of both DiMA and the SaveNetRadio Campaign. For more information about the show, please visit SaveNetRadio.org.

Washington DC

Another very interactive evening at American University's Greenberg Theatre. Joined by David Oxenford and Gary Greenstein, two attorneys who have been in the music rights debate trenches for some time, about 130 DC listeners.

Took advantage of the trip to visit some local music haunts including a local community music school for all ages and skills ...the father-and-son-in-the-hallway-waiting-for-the-recital really brought me back...
