New Pandora for All
Today is a big day for Pandora: after more than a year of planning, design, engineering, and beta testing we're launching an entirely new Pandora website.
In late 2010 we started with a clean sheet of paper, challenging ourselves to create a new internet radio experience that was fast, social, and easy while still being familiar to the tens of millions of people that listen to Pandora each month.
The result is "New Pandora" -- the same personalized radio experience you've enjoyed for years, wrapped in a new HTML5 look that makes it more responsive, easier to use, and better integrated with the friends and music lovers in your life. We also think it looks more beautiful than ever, but we're biased.
For the last two months we've been gradually rolling a preview of the new site out to our listeners, taking their feedback, fixing bugs and making improvements here and there. With all those little fixes and refinements in place, today we're rolling out the new site for everyone.
Some of our new features include:
Simplified Station Creation - Enhanced auto-complete choices and personalized suggestions make creating new stations and discovering new music or comedy more intuitive and personal.
Discovery of Music with Friends - Enhanced listener profiles and a new music feed offer a centralized place to find, like and comment on what friends and like-minded listeners are discovering and enjoying on Pandora. The music feed will roll out slowly over the course of the coming days. In addition to the prominent new "share" button, stations now have their own URLs, making it super easy for listeners to share favorite stations via Twitter, Facebook, or email.
Improved Control - Prominent and ubiquitous access to familiar player control buttons including Play, Pause, Thumbs-Up and Thumbs-Down icons helps listeners to easily personalize their music and comedy stations. A new shuffle feature also allows listeners to shuffle any collection of stations to add variety to their listening experience.
Enhanced Artist Information - An option to learn more about the music, find lyrics, read artists' biographies and expand the album art size.
Unlimited listening - We've removed the 40 hours listening cap - you can now listen as much as you want for free.
The new social feed will roll out over the next few days to everyone and we want to remind you that you control of how others see your Pandora profile page and listening activity. Here's a link to view and to edit your privacy settings. http://www.pandora.com/#/account/privacy
We'd love to hear what you think of our latest project. To let us know what you think, to get help, or to find answers please visit http://help.pandora.com.

I would really like an option to not have the Pandora website start the in-browser playback. I listen to Pandora through the Windows Gadget for the sidebar, and now whenever I click on a song title, artist name or album name I have another version of Pandora start playing. This new site seems like a nifty new thing, but I prefer to not have a web browser open at all times to listen to Pandora. Please add in the ability to not have Pandora automatically start playing if you are navigating to song/artist/album names.

I think the new site looks slick, but it does not offer "the same personalized radio experience" as the previous site.
One of my favorite features of the older site was the ability to bookmark songs and artists to check out at a later date. That function has been removed in the new iteration of Pandora and I miss it dearly - along with all of the old bookmarks I appear to have lost.
I hope you'll restore this functionality to the new site for those of us who cannot always actively explore the musical genome project while we listen.
Cheers,
Clayton

How can I stop that stupid dating ad from coming up?
Posted by: Tom Vaughan at September 21, 2011 7:04 AM
Love the updates to the web version. It looks great. Very classy. We use the desktop app, so we won't see most of the changes.
One thing I would love to see is a way to group our stations. We have quite a list and I would love to be able to group them - kids, mine, husbands, etc.
Keep up the great work! We use Pandora every day!

Is Pandora able to play and discover music by independent artists now too, or just the major labels? turntable.fm manages to do both, as it allows user-uploaded tracks to be part of the mix. See http://j.mp/disruptFlix for why this matters.

Looks great, but now I can't use it at work anymore...time to find another Internet radio to use... :-(
Posted by: Ashley at September 21, 2011 7:12 AM
I just saw the new site today and love the look. I have noticed that everytime I try to rate (add thumbs up or down) or look back to another track that it interupts the current song playing. It's only a second or two until I stop hovering over that item.
Thanks

I have been a huge fan of Pandora for three years. Pandora has turned me on to great new music that I otherwise might not have heard. I love the high tech algorithms that work behind the scenes to find new music that matches my preferences. Pure genius! I haven't checked out the new website yet - I usually just use the Pandora One app. But I will check it out now.
Keep up the great work!
Yours,
Ron

Unfortunately, the new updated Pandora is not recognized by the military web channels so, you guys just lost all the military members you had listening at work.
Hope you guys fix the problem soon. We relied on you guys for our day to day music.

Great news, great planning, best result.
Posted by: Ray Obeng at September 21, 2011 7:45 AM
Just out of curiosity, are you planning on offering anything to offset the fact that you've taken away one of the reasons that Pandora One subscribers pay? The primary reason I pay yearly for Pandora One is that I needed the higher than 40 hour cap. With that now free for everyone, am I paying just to remove ads? I've happily supported Pandora for years now, I use it day in and day out - but I think it'd be worthwhile to offer some more differentiators to those of us who actually pony up.
Just a suggestion - I DO really like the new look/feel of the site.
Thanks.

I have 5 months left on a prepaid Plus subscription that I bought so I could have unlimited listening. That's money 58% well spent.

This Pandora is really, really, really Bad!!!! The music is not clear. It songs sound like you are in a tunnel. Please fix this or change it back ASAP.
Posted by: Al Bailey at September 21, 2011 8:07 AM
I like it a lot. I really didn't care for the fully Flash-based UI, though I've always loved the Pandora service.
I've found my old Bookmarks under My Profile (It's 2011, we don't really need "My ..." on every label). It looks like there's no way to add Bookmarks; I assume Likes are supposed to take their place.
I do hope these may be used without in any way publicising my interactions over Facebook. I wasn't thrilled that Pandora automatically used my Facebook cookie to tie Pandora to my Facebook profile. I don't care to share my music listening preferences.
But nice job in general. It looks good and works well on all my OSs. I will finally get my act together and pay for a service which brings me so much joy.
Posted by: Kirby at September 21, 2011 8:09 AM
After I pause a song, clicking the play button does nothing. Pandora hangs. I have to switch stations. Please look into this.
Posted by: Rob Hovey at September 21, 2011 8:09 AM
For those people complaining about the forty hour limit being removed and they paid, it's called no ads. I don't know about you guys, but never having to hear that god awful Subway commercial ever again is worth three bucks a month.
And you get Pandora One app access, so you don't have to use the web browser.
Posted by: Thomas at September 21, 2011 8:13 AM
I have been using the new pandora for about a month now and it is really great, but I do miss the ability to bookmark songs like Clayton. Sometimes a song is interesting enough to make a note of it but not interesting enough to have it influence the sound of my station. If you are not going to re-add this feature, an explanation why would be great to hear.
Thanks!

The the problem was with my system not the new Pandora set up. and the problem is fixed. The site is very nice and the music still sounds good.
Posted by: Al Bailey at September 21, 2011 8:15 AM
It's not even working...keeps saying that "there are no more songs to play on this station" even though I restarted broswer, logged in and out, etc. etc.

Awesome upgrade. Love the new look and feel. Well done.

I'm experiencing a lot of "hiccups" in terms of streaming. It's worse when I am navigating around the Pandora web page.
Posted by: Nibor6000 at September 21, 2011 8:24 AM
Where's the new iPhone app? I'm a PandoraOne subscriber, but I'm never on my computer. The only feature I am able to take advantage of is no commercials.
Posted by: Steven at September 21, 2011 8:24 AM
I like the new design.. but these full screen add's mean I can't use Pandora anymore primarily due to bandwidth reasons. Some tv show spam/ad keeps appearing (revenge?) and just EATS my bandwidth to the point I have to close the browser and re-open. I hate to say it, but Pandora has made a good thing bad for me. I guess off to Grooveshark for me, again.
Posted by: Kenny at September 21, 2011 8:25 AM
This update broke Pandora for those of us in the military...looks like we will have to find another radio. :'(
Posted by: Chris Hughes at September 21, 2011 8:27 AM
@CFMcG: while bookmarking tracks isn't available on the website, i see if you "Like" a track, you can access it in your Profile. it's not quite the same as keeping a bookmark list but at least you still have a workaround.
personally, i'd still like to be able to maintain a bookmark list. Pandora, i hope you bring this back. i use the bookmark list to track down songs i want to buy later (when i have the funds) and when i pick up the songs i remove them from the list.
i also hope you can make Pandora available to military channels again...it saddens me that people serving in the military like "Joe Sailor" are now deprived of music thanks to your update.

Congratulations on a new design that looks great - and thank you for removing the 40 hour limit - much appreciated! Unlike another famous net-based entertainment business that has gotten a whole lot of bad publicity for their recent changes, I hope you get a lot of good vibes today!
I have remained loyal to Pandora because I really like the model of having new artists (to me) integrated into the ones I'm familiar with and enjoy. Keep up the good work, Pandora!

Posted by: Greg B at September 21, 2011 8:29 AM
I haven't been happy with the integration of the site with my Ipad. I rarely use my PC except for image processing and some spreadsheet creation. I have the Pandora app but to do anything like seed a station I have to boot my PC or try to type in info on my Touch--which DOES have the ability in ITS app to seed. Please correct this with Ipad app.

I absolutely love the new UI. You all did a fantastic job. I'm really excited about all of the changes. Everything I'm usually hunting for is now right in front of me. LOVE!
Posted by: Kariyushi at September 21, 2011 8:31 AM
The site looks fine, I'll tinker with it over the next few days, but the sound quality is lacking. There are hiccups and skips. The sound is not as enjoyable! darn...of course just when I was really getting comfortable!
Posted by: videogal at September 21, 2011 8:33 AM
@CFMcG Your old bookmarks are still around, click My Profile and then there's a link for Bookmarks with an explanation at the top about the change.
I do agree though, I miss the bookmark feature. Liking does not easily replace it for me since I like/dislike almost every song that plays, but used to bookmark songs that I thought I might buy later or that I wanted to save for later to look into the rest of what that artist creates. My Likes page grows to fast to keep up with.
Like others, I appreciate that the 40 hour limit has been lifted and am now questioning whether I'll renew my Pandora One subscription when it comes due next year. It has been a long time since I saw/heard an ad here, not sure how annoying they are.
Posted by: Trin at September 21, 2011 8:35 AM
New layout is okay, but whenever I pause a song it now freezes when I try to hit play again.
Posted by: JC at September 21, 2011 8:37 AM
Looks great but the music keeps skipping. Hopefully pandora will be able to remedy that soon!
Posted by: cordelia at September 21, 2011 8:45 AM
Is anyone else having trouble actually getting Pandora to recognize their existing stations?
Posted by: Ron at September 21, 2011 8:48 AM
Looked good at first, but after a couple hours the negatives outweigh the positives. Bookmarks were useful, now they are gone. Thumbs Up for tweaking stations is now all mixed up with Liking, which is logically different thing. (Looks like the principles of the Music Genome Project have taken a back seat here. That's sad.) Maybe Liking is the new Bookmark, ok, but then it should go to a permanent accessible listing, not to an ephemeral news feed. The editable profile message and personal info was nice, now it's gone, which is strange for a set of feature changes that were supposedly making Pandora more social. Navigation to info pages within the site is clunky. I used to just use multiple browser tabs and the browser's forw/back. Now I can't do that, and there's nothing to replace forw/back. The help pages used to be fairly complete and useful. Now they're gutted. Music still plays smooth, but the rest of the interface update's slowly; and, since I need to click 5-8 buttons to do anything other than passively listen to music, the slow interface is a problem. What terrible beta testers didn't tell you this?

Posted by: Melissa at September 21, 2011 8:50 AM
Matt C hit it on the head. I too am a Pandora One subscriber, and one of the reasons I bought it was to remove the cap. What are you going to be offering paid subscribers with these changes that the free version doesn't get? I absolutely love your service and that's why I paid for it, but if you're downgrading Pandora One features to free, then what's the point of me continuing to pay for the service?
Posted by: Esch at September 21, 2011 8:52 AM
It looks modern, easy to use & an incredible suprise to my morning.

Been a user for over a year on PC at work/home, on TV at home, and iTouch/phone. The biggest thing I am missing right now, is the ability to bookmark a song. Yes, you can "Like" it...but I used the Bookmarking all the time. I used this list to later buy songs from both iTunes, and Amazon. Then I could edit that list/remove the ones I bought, etc. Removing the bookmarking in my opinion is a big mistake. I know it can all be done on this new way, but it was far easier on the old.

Any chance on lowering the price for Pandora One now that listening is unlimited for all? That's the only reason most Pandora One users subscribe. 40 hours would only get me through one week in the office. I would still be willing to pay for ad free listening, but not at the current price.
Posted by: John at September 21, 2011 9:05 AM
If its not broke don't fix it!!! There is too much on the new site and causes it to run slow and the music does not play smoothly. Way to jack something up that worked perfect the way it was. Switching to last.fm unless change is made!

What about high quality audio through API (e.g. for Sonos) for premium subscribers?
I switched to Spotify. I love the 320kbs audio I get through Sonos (and elsewhere), but I do miss the excellent, personalized stations I had on Pandora.
Posted by: Michael at September 21, 2011 9:14 AM
@CFMcG: Your previous bookmarks are still there! They are in your profile section.
I do agree however that it would be nice to have a separate "bookmark" from the thumbs up, for those occasions where I want to remember a track name/artist without having to "like" it. I don't want to share every random artist that I want to look up later. I don't use pandora for the social aspect... I turn it on to listen to music while I work.
Essentially I don't like the lean away from being simply internet radio. Can we please resist trying to make everything facebook-y? I don't use facebook for music, nor do I want to. I use pandora for music, and I want to keep it separate!
Love the new look of the site though - very nice job folks.
Posted by: Maya at September 21, 2011 9:18 AM
Too bad all of my music now skips literally every second at work... might be time to find a new place to listen to music.
Thanks for lifting the 40 hour limit, but I can't even listen to my music since it skips so often. This never happened to me before the website switch.

FYI I think there might be a bug in the new player - mine is now incapable of resuming a song after it has been paused. Hope it gets fixed soon!

I would still like to be able to listen to Pandora outside the US. I am in Sweden, so I hope you guys are getting somewhere with being able to get others to realize a global Pandora. But, all the best till then.

I want to modify one station while listening to another. Please put the capability back in. Also, I made extensive use of the bookmark function. An 'upgrade' should not lose features.
Posted by: Void at September 21, 2011 9:31 AM
Did you remove the bookmark function?? I liked to bookmark songs to buy and download later. Now, all i see is share and buy. But during the day i'm not on my personal laptop, so i cant buy them...

I realize that a paid sub is not at all that expensive, but what do your paid subscribers get other then no ads? To be perfectly honest I'm fine with just the loss of the ads. I look at it more of a way to support a great product then getting more then the average Joe. However, it would be nice if there were some features available to those of us that do pay get that others don't.
Posted by: Adam at September 21, 2011 9:40 AM
New layout looks good. I do have a few issues though
1). Sometimes when I hear a song, I would like to move it to more than just one station. Every time I hear a song, it only allows me to move the song to one station and then the options disappear. This is also an issue especially if you accidentally thumb down a song that you didn't mean to thumb down (especially if you wanted to thumb up the song). I would like the options to remain after the song is played for thumbing up/thumbing down/moving song/tired of song/why station played the song, etc...
2). While the main interface is good, browsing your thumbed up songs/seeds on a station is time consuming. I felt it was better to have the "view all" option that the old pandora build had.
3). The icon on a station page in the upper left hand corner should really be updated to include album covers based on a combination of seeds and thumb ups. That looks much better TBH.

another reason to bring back bookmarking: being able to flag a song for later without having an effect on the channel. i may not find a song appropriate for a channel--hence a "thumbs down"--but still like the song and want to keep note of it.

Is there any way to change the skin of the new design? I can't stand the hideous 1997ish Windows Media Player bubble-blue. Sorry, some awesome UI changes, but the actual visual design is . . . not cutting it.

I've been listening to Pandora for over four years and paying for over three. I pay because I like the Pandora concept, not to get rid of the ads, which I would do with ad blocking anyway. Pandora replaced kexp.org as my way to listen to music online and my way to discover new music.
I can tell you all put a lot of work into the new look and I don't want to discount the good things you've done... but... I don't know what those good things are.
I want Pandora Mini back. I don't like the new web player because I have to use a big (wide) web window to use it and it doesn't show or allow me to interact with previously played songs. Likewise for the desktop app.
I have spent some time with the new interface and see nothing in it of value to me. The old Mini player wasn't broken and should not have been fixed.
Posted by: Robert de Forest at September 21, 2011 9:59 AM
Correction to my previous comment.
I see now that the new web interface does have song history, so I retract that complaint.
HOWEVER, it the window is still much too large. I need to leave Pandora up on my screen at all times so I can pause it quickly when I get a phone call or someone enters my office. I need it to not take up most of one of my monitors. Please give me Mini back.
Posted by: Robert de Forest at September 21, 2011 10:04 AM
The new site is very slick and much easier to use than the old one.
However, I'm already missing the bookmarks feature. Sometimes Pandora plays songs that I like... but that I don't want to hear when listening to that particular channel. I'd bookmark these so that I could check them out later without screwing up my channel by "liking" it.
Please bring back bookmarks or allow a way for us to mark tracks without them influencing our channel.

I logged in today to a new interface, of which I am not particularly fond. I do not see an option to use the older interface anywhere. Please allow us to select the old user interface. The new one is ugly, oversized, and nonfunctional, much like Apple's embarrassingly-useless iTunes program. I will list a few specific grievances should you wish to make improvements to the new interface:
1) The information window is too narrow and tall even for old 4:3 monitors and looks like it was designed for a smartphone. On a 16:9 monitor (note that I use 16:10), it is an awkward mess of empty space; on 4:3, the ads frequently extend beyond the browser window's size. The height needs to be shored up and/or the width increased -- or preferably, give us the ability to select it ourselves.
2) The pause button next to the thumbs-up button will invariably result in a lot of menu-sifting to remove items from the list. The menu-sifting problem is not new (we have long needed an undo button), but the top bar -- arguably the most useful piece for those not using a desktop gadget -- makes the problem more prominent.
3) The redesign has made it a pain to discover which songs you have previously listened to and which you may have missed if you left it playing while not in the room. To do so, you have to manually select each previous album art. The option to use a combined view (like the previous interface used) would be preferable
Not that I'm going to suddenly stop using Pandora, but I cannot say that I'm pleased with the new interface. It makes poor use of screen real-estate, addresses precious few of the weaknesses with the previous version, and trims out functionality.

Well, it's nice to know that I no longer have to spend money and support pandora. With their removal of the 40 hour cap, and the fact that the new website doesn't let me see the song information or artist bios when I click on the title in the pandora one desktop program, I feel obliged to let my paid subscription fall off once its done.
Thank you, Pandora, for making my life simpler. And for reducing my costs. Here's to you!

One word: Awesome!
Many big sites have changed their web formats recently and yours is the only one I've see that is obviously and immediately more intuitive, more visually pleasing, and more responsive. Great changes (improvements!), thank you :).

When are you guys going to fix the broken and confusing "thumbs-up/thumbs-down" system? Everyone who uses it thinks a "thumbs-up" means "I like this song - give me more like it", when really it means "keep playing this song over and over". So, when you have too many thumbs-ups in one channel, you end up hearing the same damn songs over and over again.
This is an ancient problem. I'm surprised Pandora persists with it.
See http://getsatisfaction.com/pandora/topics/why_does_pandora_keep_playing_the_same_few_songs for a discussion about it.

Maybe I'm just not finding it in the new interface, but I primarily listen to a custom mix station made up of a few different band stations. I can't find my mix station or how to create a new one. Is that feature gone?
Posted by: Kenny at September 21, 2011 10:43 AM
The new website has poor functionality.
I don't like the disappearing thumbs up and down.
I want to be able to rate the music AFTER I listen to it, like the old site.
In fact, JUST GIVE ME THE OLD SITE BACK!!!!
PLEASE!!!!

I'M BLOWN AWAY!! Pandora's new look is just plain DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!! What a stunner when I opened it up for the first time. Somebody go get a $1000 bill and give it to each of the graphic designers that produced this masterpiece!! -JAS

Looks terrific! But I got this message for the first time ever: "There are no more songs to play on this station." But it doesn't matter which station I click, I get the same message. Could find nothing in your Help files about this. Help!

Please, please, please can we get bookmarks added back?
Other than that, I really like the new design.
Posted by: Geoff Allen at September 21, 2011 11:00 AM
@Clayton: Your bookmarks from the old site are still there under your "profile".
I want to repeat what I posted a few days ago. Bookmarks were an integral part of the Pandora site. "Likeing" isn't the same thing. If everyone gets unlimited listening and the only thing I'll have to endure about free Pandora is ads, I doubt if I'll be spending money to renew a site that no longer does something that was one of the most important parts of Pandora to me.
Posted by: Elizabeth at September 21, 2011 11:03 AM
When ads go to play; they never start which freezes the music. As a result, the music never start up again. Thanks for ruining pandora. I'll go somewhere else for radio-you guys suck!

Time to re start the search for a new online radio station! (hopefully just for work) ={

When are you going to stop requiring access to my personal contacts and addressbook in your Android app? You don't need to know all the contact info for all my friends, family, business, etc. to play me music.
For that matter, when will Google stop refusing to give me the ability to control what permissions to give apps on my phone.
Slacker Radio will do just fine until then.

The new site is a pitiful redesign. Although maybe faster, the overall look and feel is horrible. I want the old pandora back. Plus your over doing it with the Adsense. The old Pandora branding and identity is lost. If anything you should keep the old design use less flash. I'm going to find a new media site. You sold out Pandora.

Please add bookmarking back in.
And please put in a way to disconnect facebook from pandora. I know "social networking" is all the rage but I like to have a separation without having to jump through browser and plugin hoops to keep my privacy.
Thanks

While the new interface is great and all, you're really killing the whole point of using pandora (music discovery) by not allowing for bookmarking. If the intention is to roll the "bookmarking" feature into the "like" feature, the least you could do is make a permanent list accessible (for whatever reason, my "like" list is capped at 32 songs).
If this feature is not brought back I guarantee you are going to lose a ton of listeners, because this was the primary draw of the service compared to other providers.
Also, you shouldn't have to be listening to a station to access its options or to delete it.

I like the look of the Pandora, but Pop up ads suck, Don't care about dating sites and all that other stuff.
What did ya'll do with my QUICK MIX, its not letting pick the artist I want to hear in my quick mix, like the old Pandora.
Please fix bugs. I don't want to hear Pink Floyd.

I was just saying how nice it was that Pandora hadn't unnecessarily "improved" their site.
That being said, it looks a little nicer and didn't get needlessly complicated. Hard to believe that's a year's work though.
Posted by: Mike at September 21, 2011 12:40 PM
You really really need a way for the user to group the radio stations according to their own preference, like play lists on itunes. I listen to Pandora a lot and hope you guys can make it more user friendly flexible.

Posted by: Georgie Boy at September 21, 2011 1:13 PM
The new Pandora website is now worse than ever. Every song I try and listen to skips and lags like I'm listening to a scratched cd from 1996. One can only assume its because of all the ridiculous adds now added on the page. So I am happy you have chose money over having a good website and fan base and I will now no longer listen to Pandora nor will any one I know as they all agree with me. So thank you once again for selling out and ruining a good thing.
Posted by: Jake at September 21, 2011 1:22 PM
I have been a Pandora subscriber for a few years now and while the new site is more attractive it has less functionality. So I don't particularly like it and kept switching back to the old site as it is/was more useful than the new one. I don't know who you paid for the new site but you should get your money back. Reducing functionality is NEVER something you should do to your customers.
Aside from that, the REALLY big thing I dislike about the new site is that is doesn't scale. Whoever wrote it didn't build it resizing of the window. So when I make my Pandora window fit the area I want it in on my terminal there is no scrollbar to move back and forth within that subwindow.

Just to continue beating this dead horse, "Liking" a song is not the same thing as bookmarking a song. If I Like a song in Pandora, I'm gonna end up hearing that same song everyday. There are songs that I want to remember their name/band without having to listen to it all the time.
Fix it!
Posted by: JC McGuire at September 21, 2011 1:25 PM
I don't really like the new site design. It feels much less personal, and the fact that the ads take up almost as much space as the info on the music is annoying. I guess I'll guess used to it, but I feel much less enamored with the website than I used to.

Posted by: Mark M at September 21, 2011 2:12 PM
The new site looks nice, but many of the features of the old site are now missing. The help topics are now so minimal as to be almost useless. A couple of lines for each. The Music Genome Project help pages used to be very in-depth and helpful about various topics in that regard.
The hints about how to do things are also gone. One in particular appears to not be working at all. A pop-up hint used to claim that clicking thumbs down on an artist a second time if it appeared again after a first thumbs down would "ban" an artist from a station. This is NOT the case. I've clicked thumbs down on several artists in one of my stations and yet Pandora continued to insert that artist into the station. Is this why the help topics were pared down so drastically? Have "behind the scenes" functions and policies at Pandora changed so much with this new site? I'm regretting upgrading to Pandora One at the moment.

Super bummed about the loss of the Bookmark feature. Pandora bookmarks have been my go-to way of remembering favorite songs so that I can sort through them and buy them later. Every song I've purchased over the last year has been because I bookmarked it on Pandora, could listen to the preview again later, and then decide to buy it on my iPhone, etc. It was especially useful when, in the middle of the work day, I heard a great song and wanted to remember it. One click did that for me instead of having to write it down or remember it some other way. I so hope this feature comes back soon!
Nonetheless - I don't want to sound entirely displeased - I LOVE the new look and the ease of use of this new version.
Thanks, Pandora!
Posted by: Jill at September 21, 2011 2:42 PM
Lots of people seem to be complaining about the loss of bookmarks... instead I think it needs to be made more clear that "liking" the track has now replaced this, and how to see your history of "liked" tracks or artists.
It's a little easier to be honest, and has the advantage of helping personalize the station a little more.
Posted by: Kevin Rochowski at September 21, 2011 2:45 PM
I love Pandora. Here are some things I dislike though:
Reload no longer changes the song :(
You still can't "un" thumbs up or down a song without going into edit. I wish I could just click again on a thumbs up to turn it "off" instead of having to go to another webpage to do it
Instead of having up and down what about a 1-10 system? There are some songs I thumbup which are an 8/10 to me but others are 10/10/ Would be nice to see even more personalization.
Posted by: Nick at September 21, 2011 3:05 PM
This new version has some crappy bugs in it... why is the song starting at the same time as the commercial??? And what happened to a thumbs down meaning skip? If I don't like a song, I don't want to hear it.
This is a horrible experience, and I will stop promoting Pandora because of those two things. You guys took 3 steps back. And the UI design is less intuitive and less engaging than the last one.
Please change it back.

I haven't found any problems after some exploring for a bit and it runs smoothly(on VISTA!). The visual interface is easier to look at now(very pleasing). I do miss the bookmarking though, I just tried to use it and forgot it wasn't there. *insert frowny face here* Other than bookmarking and the issues with the web channels its great(so far). Site looks great but wow did you guys step it up with ads. I'm about to switch over to Spotify if every time I try to skip a song or interact with the radio I have to hear another advert.
At least try to sensor your ads so they are not as obnoxious
Posted by: KP at September 21, 2011 4:36 PM
Neat looking, however; you know that say "can't judge a book by it's cover". Same applies for Pandor's new UI. Looks great but the functionality is crap. Major lag between songs (up to 30 seconds) and the video ads are REALLY choppy. I want to listen to music, if I wanted to listen to dead air, I would just unplug.
You guys have to get this fixed asap, if not, then you will begin to lose customers.

How can I bookmark songs/artists?
Posted by: emily at September 21, 2011 4:49 PM
This is really pretty and streamlined and I appreciate it not using Flash- and not having to allow Facebook scripts to see lyrics for whatever reason- but if you could find a way to tweak it so it doesn't seem to randomly skip songs, or switch stations when I'm trying to just look at another station's definition or edit the shuffle, I'd be really happy.
On a related note, I really liked the bit where if you switched stations in the middle of a song, then switched back, the song you were listening to kept playing. It helped a lot with misclicks, which seem to be much more common with this setup.
90% happy with this, though, and so /very/ happy with the limit removed. Thanks, folks. :3
Posted by: Obscaenus at September 21, 2011 4:50 PM
So if it's HTML5, why does it still need Flash to be installed to work? WTF? I am using Safari without Flash installed and the Pandora homepage says "In order to use Pandora internet radio, please install Adobe Flash (v.10 or later)."
If you're gonna ditch Flash, effing ditch it!
Posted by: Simon at September 21, 2011 4:54 PM
I really like the new, clean, non-Flash look of the site, but I really miss the bookmark feature. It was so useful - I'm not entirely sure why it's been removed.
Posted by: Jacob S. at September 21, 2011 4:56 PM
Sorry this is all well and good, but how do I bookmark songs? I don't want to be forced to either buy a song RIGHT NOW or forget it forever or "like" it, are you seriously going to make me write down song names on a piece of paper? I call that a downgrade.
Posted by: Steve at September 21, 2011 5:03 PM
Disappointing. Unexpected. Didn't really need something that would take even more bandwidth and more CPU/video memory (we don't all have the latest greatest hardware), but that's not as bad as taking away the MOVE function. Where did that go? Cannot locate it--seems missing. Sometimes/OFTENtimes rather than thumbing down a song I preferred to move it to one of my other stations where it fit better.
Old & new -- would like to be able to move songs among stations in the Station Editor -- as one discovers more music, new ways of arranging it also arise but it's very clumsy to deal with that now.
Posted by: Rajah at September 21, 2011 5:09 PM
Please implement a "show all" option when looking through likes.
You removed bookmarks and now if I want to go back through songs I liked, it would probably take me 20 minutes of continually clicking "show more"
I also suggest you place like according to which station we liked them in. We should be able to go to stations, then "view likes for this station". That would most likely make things easier.

I use pandora all the time and one of my favorite parts is the bookmark feature so i can easily mark all the new songs i love and then buy them later so i dont have to remember. I hate the new format. It looks slick but doesn't have the same features as before. I am usually playing games while listening to the station so I can't get in and out easily to thumbs down a song before it stops playing. Before I could go back and thumbs down it, but now I ended up deleting a song I like. Also, there is no longer an option to say I'm tired of a particular song. Please restore the old options.
Also, I attempted to send an email through the help line and it wanted an attachment, but there was no send button. I don't like that you're making it difficult to communicate. I found this link in a saved email.

As a Pandora One subscriber, I've been using the site for many weeks now and am pleased that it is finally live, and without some of the serious bugs that made early versions of the new site unusable.
I do echo the many comments here that the bookmarks feature is a sad omission from the new site. Please do consider bringing it back.
And -- why on earth does this HTML5 site require Flash in some browsers??? It won't load in Safari on the Mac without Flash. But I can set my Safari user agent to pretend the browser is IE 9 and it will load without Flash! (And of course it works in IE 9 itself without Flash.) What on earth?

I have a laptop hooked up to my awesome JBL speakers and it's only purpose is to play Pandora ... until today. My internet stream is too slow to handle the new layout. Now all I get is skipping. Wish they would have at least warned me I was going to be cut off. It's the only way I listen to music at home. A warning would have been appreciated. Sad, sad day ...
I specifically bought a second laptop so that the first one could just stream Pandora :(

In a world where there is so much sadness and struggle for some people (me included), this is a break from all that. An escape. Thank you for lifting the 40 hour limit. I'm glad there are still some people in this world that aren't head over heel greedy for money. This message might not be of much significance to you but pandora is a huge deal for me. Even if there are glitches and setbacks, as long as this site is up and running, I will be a listener to the end. So thank you so much for making my life a bit more lighter.

This is the most right-on comment about bookmarking: "another reason to bring back bookmarking: being able to flag a song for later without having an effect on the channel. i may not find a song appropriate for a channel--hence a "thumbs down"--but still like the song and want to keep note of it."
I use bookmarking extensively, but do not always want an artist/song to influence my channel I'm listening to. Also, where are the options to get an explanation of why a song is playing, and to put a song "on the shelf" for a while without banning it from your channel ("I'm sick of this song" or something like that?)
I mostly listen via my Roku and still have bookmarking there. If you disable this, I'll be quite unhappy.
I'm also not chuffed that I to whitelist Flashblock and Adblock to get your main page to load. This update should have eliminated use of Flash which is a terrible language anyway. Meanwhile, the heavy use of Flash constantly bogs down my browser with the Mac "spinning beach ball of death."
Finally: the site should not auto-play, should never auto-play, should never have auto-played. Websites that broadcast sound at you just by loading them really chap my hide. I can't even go to adjust my settings on a channel (while listening via my Roku) without getting other music blasted at me.

Hi,
I see several posts identifying problems with songs such as skipping and hanging, along with other issues. However, I do not see anywhere what will and will not be addressed.
Is anyone monitoring this blog and is there a list of sort we can monitor? For me, the skipping issue is making it kind of hard to listen, so would be nice to know when I (and other users) can return.
Thanks.

Poorly designed interface... In Firefox I am only able to see half of the name of any of my stations (example: "Black Sabbath Radio" is now, "Black Sabba.") and there is no way to widen that particular aspect of the window. And no bookmarks? Do you have any idea how your users actually use your product? Was there no beta trial of the new features?

WERE IS THE OPTION TO BOOKMARK I WAS MAKING A MUSIC LIBRARY AND NOW I CANT BOOKMARK SONGS !!!
Posted by: eric at September 21, 2011 8:14 PM
I like the new look and all, but it kills me that I can't bookmark from my browser anymore. Bookmarking was the main reason I used Pandora in the first place. Now I have to look through my likes just to find that song I want to get verses what I already have in my library. It's not easy since I have a huge music library with over 10,000 songs. I use my likes for Pandora to find me similar music not to bookmark these are 2 very different things.
Please bring back bookmarking for the new site or I will be forced to find a script to allow bookmarking again.

I to was a huge fan of using Pandora bookmarks in order to remember music for later and am sad to see it go. Hope it comes back.
Posted by: Kira LaRose at September 21, 2011 8:34 PM
My main concern is the same as Brian Engel's... it would be nice to be able to view an artist/song/album page in another tab, without another version of Pandora being opened (and playing automatically!). I can appreciate having the information pages integrated into the radio player, but I liked being able to view them separately.
One thing I miss a lot is Pandora Backstage: it was a great resource, really useful for times when I just wanted information on, say, a song or artist, without opening the radio player.
I also miss the ability to bookmark songs and artists to reference later. Like another commenter said, I like/dislike almost every song and my "like" list grows too quickly for it to function the same as a bookmarks list.
(It might be nice to be able to have a profile photo without having to import it from Facebook, as well, if you're trying to increase the social aspect and all.)
As a longtime listener (3 years), New Pandora is going to take some serious getting used to... it's definitely uncomfortable having the entire feel of the site change. (But I'm sure I'll manage.) The new site is pretty sleek, and I've got to say, the larger album cover images look great.
Thank you for all the work you do! Pandora has introduced me to an *incredible* amount of new music -- it's impossible to overstate how much it's broadened my musical tastes. (I'm planning to upgrade to Pandora One as soon as I'm able -- I paid 99 cents every month when I passed the cap, but I'm also intersted in the other features, particularly the higher sound quality.) I don't know what I'd do without it!

I think the new pandora sucks!!! The best part of the website was being able to bookmark the songs. Plus with the new more graphical interface it takes even longer for the website to load.
Blah : P Ef that.

Hi. I love Pandora, but I really like the old layout better. Can we have the option to switch back?
Posted by: Martha at September 21, 2011 9:39 PM
LIKING A SONG IS NOT THE SAME THING AS BOOKMARKING. BRING BACK BOOKMARKS. GOD YOU PEOPLE ARE AS BAD AS FACEBOOK'S UI DESIGNERS.
And for that matter, bring back the ability to SORT the bookmarks by date bookmarked, artist name, song title, etc.. And most importantly, bring back the "view all" button in bookmarks. Do you realize how many hundreds of songs I bookmarked? And now you are telling me that I have to manually click the "Show More" button umpteen million times if I want to view them all??!
And now you can't add songs to a station you aren't actively listening to.. you can't view station options for a station you aren't currently listening to..
Basically you can't do anything to any station unless it's the one that is currently playing.
And another thing, I'm pretty sure I never gave you permission to import stuff from my Facebook account. In fact, I have always had "instant personalization" disabled on Facebook. I should not have to disable that on both sites.
What the HELL is WRONG with you people?! NEVER. EVER. REMOVE FUNCTIONALITY. I will not be renewing when my subscription expires. In fact I think I will just switch to DI.fm immediately.
Posted by: mightybob2000 at September 21, 2011 9:48 PM
It looks great and I'm not having any playback problems, so thanks for all your work on it!
BUT...I sometimes like to listen to Pandora while playing online Flash games. Since the redesign it has been causing the games to run slowly. (I know Pandora is the culprit because if I close it, the problem stops.) It would be nice to have the option of a pared-down version that wouldn't use so many system resources.

I'm actually quite impressed by the new look and feel of the site, but as a few others have mentioned already, it is now lacking something very important: BOOKMARKS.
Is there really no way to bookmark songs anymore? This was one of my favorite features, and now it appears to have disappeared. Please, for the love of god, bring that lovely feature back?
Posted by: Dev at September 21, 2011 10:11 PM

Seriously lacking on every level. Maybe you guys could try asking if we want any changes before screwing everything up?

New site looks great. And that's about it. Deeply disappointed with how "skippy" this new version is. Now it is all but unlistenable for me. Losing bookmarks: also not an improvement. Leaving out the military: definitely not an improvement. Please let me go back to the old version. Seriously. The new version is terrible.

I dont hear ANY music what so ever. All I get are messages popping up saying that "there are no more songs for this station" or something to the sort. I do however get all the oh so wonderful ads and can hear and see then load and clear, but NO MUSIC, I do not like the new pandora, what gives????? When will this be fixed?
Posted by: Jaime at September 21, 2011 10:45 PM
Pandora for all = "We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S."
I really hate it when you, americans, think that the world starts by your east coast and ends on the west coast.
Posted by: kierkegaard at September 21, 2011 10:55 PM
Overall, I'm a fan of the new Pandora. I find it a fair bit easier to use, the look is absolutely fantastic, and while I never really had any severe run-ins with the 40-hour cap, I am certainly glad and quite impressed to see it go. I absolutely love that everything is contained in one window, regardless of what I choose to do throughout the site.
However, there is one small point that I've seen made in these comments already. I'm sorely sad to see the bookmarking option gone. I understand and appreciate that you now have access to a history of songs you've "thumbs upped," but I often find myself bookmarking songs that I haven't liked or vice versa. If I like a song, it's because I'd like it to influence that particular station and I'm probably already familiar with its title and artist. If I bookmark a track, I want to remember it for future inquiry because I'm unfamiliar with it or perhaps I don't actually want it to influence my station. The bookmarking feature gave me a heightened level of personalization that I haven't found anywhere else.
Like I said, I'm still a great advocate for and user of Pandora and I will continue to tout its superiority, but it rarely hurts to voice one's opinion. Again, thanks so much for the improvements and keep being brilliant!

First netflix, then facebook, now pandora...wow, could the internet suck any harder this week?
A good friend of mine has a law about the internet that says "Nothing is ever as good as the thing it has replaced" and it is certainly true in this.
I mean, for starters, when you go to shuffle, the feature i use the most, it automatically checks all stations, with no option to 'uncheck all', and i've got dozens of stations, some of which i only wanted to try once, but now i have to scroll down the clunky scroll bar (another fail) and uncheck every single station i don't want in my shuffle....no thanks...i'll listen to GROOVESHARK until this new atrocity goes away.
it's also ugly, unlike the original which was clean and unobtrusive.
thanks

Apparently by "New and Improved" Pandora means "more frustration, less functionality."
This new site blows goats.
- I know the non-payers have to listen to commercials, but could you play them between songs, not DURING songs?
- I don't know how making a stable player unstable counts as progress. (RAMPANT page crashes)
- The site used to store a cookie, so that I didn't have to MANUALLY log in EVERY time I load Pandora (also after every time the player locks up, which, as I have mentioned, is often).

The colors are nice and all but anyway to get rid of the floating controls? I think that is my biggest issue, I like it stationary. When I scroll down it covers whatever I want to look at. Stationary controls please!
I don't maximize the Pandora window, I size it to emulate the old popup window. But the floating controls mess that up and cover stuff.

For all you dolts saying "Oh, you don't NEED bookmarks anymore, just use "likes". To you I say [profanity edited]. There is some music that I think would be appropriate for certain uses like background music or mood music that I want to bookmark, but don't want to "like" because I don't want that particular song flavoring my channel!!!
There's a difference between mood music for a candlelight dinner and something you find toe-tappy enough to listen to while on the computer.

I work at a military installation, and have been unable to access Pandora for the last 2 days. After investigating, I found this article and Joe Sailor's September 21st comment about the military not recognizing the web channels. For whatever reason, our network won't recognize the change and it won't play.
This month is the busiest time of the year, and I relied on the music to keep me going during the day. I am very saddened that I will not be able to listen. Especially now that the 40 hour limit has been removed.
Hope you are doing something to fix it...

I've been listening to Pandora for over four years and paying for over three. I pay because I like the Pandora concept, not to get rid of the ads, which I would do with ad blocking anyway. Pandora replaced kexp.org as my way to listen to music online and my way to discover new music.

After I pause a song for a few minutes or more, clicking the play button does nothing. Pandora hangs. Please look into this. I'm also disappointed that I'm paying for something that is now free. Maybe I'll switch to Spotify.
Posted by: Mal at September 22, 2011 6:53 AM
Bookmarks.....yikes.....why did you take this function away? As others have mentioned, I use this as my primary "to buy" queue...this is a big loss for me on the value of Pandora.
Pause Issues.....since I have gone to One and use pause, it will frequently stay frozen and requires me to skip the song in order to start up again.
Posted by: Dan at September 22, 2011 7:15 AM
This stinks. There is no longer a lyric search feature that I can see, and if I try to look up something about the band from the desktop mini, I suddenly have the main version blaring something entirely different to contend with. Looks great, but I miss the function.
Posted by: Jim at September 22, 2011 7:30 AM
Now it's too fancy to use on my crappy work computer, the songs are skipping. I can only guess it's because it's trying to use too much memory...?? Very sad face here. I've used Pandora 5+ hours a day for a long time, but now I'll have to stop using it.
Maybe you could do an option to revert to a simpler layout?
Posted by: Rachel Hibberd at September 22, 2011 7:34 AM
My Shuffle is not saving. Every day when I start my computer and Firefox, the top station is selected, and when I click "my shuffle" it has every station selected so I have to go through and select the ones I want.
Posted by: Allen at September 22, 2011 7:43 AM
The songs load slower and now there are "pauses" in the music at times until the buffer catches up but the worst glitch is that when I pause Pandora because I am on the phone for example, clicking play does nothing. Pandora just locks up and I have to reload the page which is annoying on several levels. This is a basic function that should have been tested before the site was rolled out. If the problem isn't resolved I will be asking for a refund of my recently renewed Pandora membership and I will find another option.
Sure the slight looks slick, cold and impersonal just like so many sites out there. Still I could get past that if it actually worked properly.

MUSIC KEEPS GETTING INTERRUPTED.
Posted by: Tim at September 22, 2011 8:00 AM
Haven't seen a FAQ clarifying this yet so here it goes....
Liking does 2 things.
1. Adds to the Station's Thumbed-up list, which (at least on the old site) modified the station's tone.
2. Puts it into "Likes".
You can go into a station and remove a song from the Thumbed-up list but it will stay under Likes.
Ok, so the "bookmarking" ability isn't quite gone but now you have to click the thumb-up icon, click My Profile, be sure you're on Stations, click the Station Link, click delete under Thumbed-up to accomplish the same thing.
I feel much better knowing the underlying capability isn't gone but from a HCI standpoint, this is worse than the old way of doing things. I'm not sure of a good way to split off the tie except to have a "Like but don't change" option under that triangle-menu when you hover over the album art. Or maybe a smaller "like" button at the top??
Additionally, there's no way to edit Likes. Tweaking station's lists doesn't affect it. Thus, not high quality HCI since you take control out of the user's hands, and especially when similar controls do exist elsewhere.
Initially, I was a bit confused where the Seeds, Likes, and Dislikes were and how to edit them for the station. If you go to My Profile there's Stations and Likes (and the previous Bookmarks) on the left side. The actual location to modify the station is a bit cross-intuitive to how the initial My Profile organization we are given. To change a station, click on My Profile > Stations > Click the Station link (there's no menu to 'do stuff' like you have for a song under Likes), then you're faced with the Seeds, Thumbed-up, Thumbed-down list that you can modify.
A couple of HCI consistency issues here as well but it's workable.
If a review is ongoing and these haven't been added to the list...
1. Might check over the dropdown button control on Likes and Bookmarks and consider having similar dropdown control next to "Play Station" for My Profile > Stations.
2. Consider copying the Seeds, Thumbed-up, Thumbed-down lists to the same place as where you have Likes and Bookmarks when My Profile first loads. Perhaps: Stations, Bookmarks, Likes, Dislikes, Seeds. This might not be what the purpose for that initial menu but the current partial match of controls is a wee-bit confusing...but there might not be any good fix.
btw...
@Void - I'm not sure if "modifying" a station means tweaking the Seeds, Thumbed-up, Thumbed-down lists on different station than what was playing, if that's what you're talking about - I was able to do it this morning through My Profile > Stations > A station link.
@pissed off - volume is at the top right next to the "Next track" button. This might or might not be a recent change but it's there now.

Ok, so are all these websites owned by the same moron? Facebook, NetFlix, and now Pandora. You just lost close to 80,000 military and DOD employees due to your cute new looking site. Idiots! Now I am stuck with AOL. Won't be coming back though. Thanks!
Posted by: DTS at September 22, 2011 8:11 AM
My thumbs-up/down, pause, play, and skip buttons don't work.
There are tons more ads.
I love that I now get unlimited listening for free.
Otherwise, I don't see how the new version is any better than the old, except that it's prettier and the buttons are bigger.
Posted by: Sarah at September 22, 2011 8:18 AM
I appreciate the time & effort, but I personally hate the new version.
I'm a subscriber, use the desktop app and I use to be able to select the artist from my player and Pandora would pull up (quickly) the artist bio and discography; select the album and it would pull up that albums reviews, track list and samples. Now when i do this, it simply takes me to the website and just starts playing the first station from my list! This sucks...now both are playing! It lost a great feature and added some I really don't want, why was it designed this way? Not to mention that just to open the site takes much longer than the previous version, twice as long. Pandora, if you see this, I'm sorry but I loved the old version. Fast, friendly and much easier to search from. Can we go back? Please! :(

I like the new look; however, I'm not crazy about the commercial playing over the songs! I would rather hear just the commercial not both at the same time! Thanks
Posted by: T at September 22, 2011 8:27 AM
I agree that the lost bookmarks are depressing. Sometimes i didn't want to 'like' a track b/c it would mess with my station preferences, but i still wanted to save it for later.
Also, when full page ads come on music from the station doesn't mute like it used to. So i've got a full page, loud abnocious ad, and station music playing AT THE SAME TIME and i can't mute either. Please fix it.
and your comment entry sucks. i missed the code down at the bottom and i had to re-write it all. fix that as well.

One feature I'm missing is the ability to see which of my stations a song is playing from when I'm shuffling all.
I'm not in the military but I'd like to support the multiple requests to fix that problem sooner than any other. Take care of those who take care of us.
Thanks, Pandora for many years of introducing me to artists I otherwise may not have known!

Posted by: Tee at September 22, 2011 8:48 AM
I have noticed a couple of glitches with the new format:
1. I cannot pause a song because then the song won't finish playing and I have to go the next song.
2. After doing that, an ad plays DURING the song (which is very distracting).
How can I fix this?
Posted by: Bianca at September 22, 2011 8:51 AM
The site was great before, the only real flaws were not being able to correct a accidental thumbs up or down. The thumbs up was easy enough to fix cause you could just bookmark the song and remove it later. I also bookmarked songs I planned to purchase.
My main complaint though isn't how this feature/shiv was removed. I frequently would edit my stations & seed artists that had say, 3 thumbs up or more. Now when I expand to Show More, it only adds 5 more songs... That's just pathetic. Please return it to showing all songs, or if you must, expand 5 to like 50? 15 at dead minimum.

Couple of things I noticed since yesterday.
1) Launching the site in IE9 didn't work. Had to install a couple of things (Google Frames, etc.), delete cookies, etc.
2) After 1) was done I couldn't sign in w/ my old credentials. Not sure why, had to have the password resent.
3) After being able to sign in I couldn't find "Quick Mix" any longer. Figured out eventually that it is called "Shuffle" now.
4) Shuffle didn't preserve the Quick Mix settings from before. Had to uncheck a lot of the stations in "My Shuffle".
5) When unchecking stations in My Shuffle the checkbox was actually checked again, as the page refreshed/reloaded all the time. This was annoying and time consuming.
6) Can't bookmark songs any longer. The problem is that this doesn’t allow me (at least I can’t figure out) to easily bookmark a bunch of songs over time, then purchase them at a later point. In the past I bought something like 30 songs on Amazon in one big swoop from the bookmarked list. Just liking a song doesn’t allow me to do so, as I don’t want to purchase every song I like, just the bookmarked ones.
Am still "addicted" to Pandora though. :)

Love the new site. Not only is it slick and beautiful, but cpu usage dropped from 45% down to 3%, and from 45% down to 0% when paused! Cpu usage was the number one reason why I closed the Pandora tab when idle. Now it can become one of my "permanent" tabs.
I haven't been a user of many of the advanced features that other users have mentioned are missing, but I'm much more likely to explore with this new interface.
Great Work! and Thanks!
ps. It would be nice if the title bar changed to indicate the song that is playing like Google Music does.

Wow, fancy new interface. Too bad the music skips now. You just ruined the audio quality which is what Pandora is really about. Where are the priorities? Simply typing these comments is causing the audio to skip. Switching windows causes it to skip. Maybe its a memory issue with the HTML5 interface. In any case, who cares about the interface if the the music skips? I feel like I'm listening to a scratched CD!!!

Love this new version--the long months of planning and strategizing paid off. The features to have, with one swift click of a button, to purchase the currently playing song from a variety of web music retailers is great! The colors are clean and make for the main focus to remain on the music selected--and of course the advertisments on the side, clever trick and a large benefit for your funders. Cannot say enough about the newly launched site. I do agree that reload no longer adjusts the song, so if you cannot stand the selected song from Carrie Underwood, tough luck, for the next three minutes you're listening. Though there are some features missing, it sounds like our thoughts will be considered and this "new" Pandora will only meet our needs better as it continues to strengthen as a streaming radio.

So Pandora is now playing advertisement audio OVER the music? I just had a ridiculous "Charlie's Angels" ad pop up and blare over top of Astrud Gilberto's beautiful voice...Disappointing, to say the least.

Love the new site. Miss bookmarks...used those to earmark music for purchase. Really slick and impressive though...nicely done. I like that new windows don't open as I navigate around Pandora.

Looks nice, but I miss the "download this video to Real Player" option (ahem), which is not working--I presume due to the HTML 5 code base. Oh well, still a great station. I like the "shuffle" option.

Could you add an option so that I can send a station to another person and then we hear the same music at the same time?
Posted by: Jennifer at September 22, 2011 10:10 AM
WHY IS IT SKIPPING IN EVERY SONG? Every 2 or 3 seconds there is a skip in the music. Is it my computer or is it Pandora's problem?
Posted by: Sara at September 22, 2011 10:13 AM
Pandora, I really like your new upgrade, especially the feature that allows you to view the song's full lyrics without opening a whole new page, however I am deeply bothered by the removal of a bookmarking option which I used to keep track of songs that I intend to buy or share with friends. Could you all please bring it back? It was probably the best feature on your original site and now it's gone.

What is with the ads playing right on top of the music?? It's so annoying!!! I understand the need for ad revenue, but it was fine before when the music would stop, ad plays, music resumes.
Please please please fix this. I can't take it every time I might fast forward I miss half the song because of stupid "Charlies Angels" explosions and whatever.
Everything else works great. Just want to hear the music. Thanks Pandora.

LOVE the new design, threw me off for a minute (after having all the Facebook changes this week...lol).
HOWEVER --- would LOVE to have Share to Google + !!!! In fact, some kind of integration with G + would be heaven to me ;-)
Thanks for this service, music is life.

I like the new Pandora, but there are a few improvements that could still be made:
1) It would be really amazing if we could save a shuffle list (formerly QuickMix) to return to. I like shuffling stations, but I have more than 1 shuffle list that doesn't fall under Pandora's genre sorting. (For instance, I have an Oldies Shuffle list across genres and a shuffle list of multiple stations my boyfriend & I listen to together. I have to manually deselect and reselect to go between them.
2) Similarly, some of the stations in those shuffle lists I *only* listen to as part of those lists. But I keep the stations separate because the styles are so disparate that it would alter the sound to merge them. It would be really cool if we could create a station made of multiple sub-stations, however, I realize that might be difficult.
3) Moreover, my Oldies list is really just a mix of 20 genre stations. I wanted a way to create a station of a variety of styles of songs from the past. I really love the result. However, it seriously clutters my station list. It would be so perfect, even if the above won't work, if we could make a station of multiple genre stations. You currently can't even add a genre to a station under "add variety".
4) I also agree with those above that we should be able to group stations.
5) If we like a song in a shuffle list, it should like the song in it's origin station.
6) It's a pain that when a song is done you have to click each album art to see the names of songs you missed. Even a hover-over option would be great. =)
7) We should be able to modify other stations while listening.
8) Moving a song to a new station shouldn't automatically dislike it on the current one, though I understand why it does. Also, it's *REALLY* lame that once you move a song, you can't like it, dislike it, anything. All the hover-over options disappear. I used to use that function on the old version, and it bugs me that it's gone.
9) I too like the idea of being able to dislike, like and *love* songs.
10) Please bring back the ability to bookmark a song. I know I can see my old ones, but "liking" isn't the same...

I'm mourning the loss of the old design of pandora. It just doesn't look good anymore and it used to be so beautiful!! So sad.
Posted by: Kylie at September 22, 2011 10:26 AM
I find it hard to believe that you tested the new website. This thing is a disaster. It is slow and unresponsive. Among the many abandoned features that others have pointed out, I noticed that clicking on the Shuffle drop-down presents a menu which is HIDDEN behind the right-hand music pane. That's just wonderful. My browser is IE7, the only option I have at work. Same observations on my laptop, so it's not my desktop machine just being screwy.
Seems you still have bugs a go-go. PLEASE GIVE US THE LINK TO THE OLD SITE BACK UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY COMPLETE YOUR TESTING.

I like the old Pandora better...don't change your amazing website like how Facebook changed theirs...
Posted by: Victoria at September 22, 2011 10:28 AM
....i like the look, but the music quality SUCKS compared to the old page. it seems that any time i move the mouse, open a new tab, click on ANYTHING, the music skips. opening the site is 2 songs of the bugs working themselves out before the music streams clearly. it seriously reminds me of trying to stream videos on a second rate phone with third rate service. the site came through so clear until the changes were made. i listened for a good part of the day yesterday, and opened my account today, just to make sure that i wasn't juming the gun, and bitching for no reason. but even as i type this, i feel like i'm listening to my folks old 45's, only without the life of the albums... PLEASE???????? fix it :)

I like the new site - Number 1 complaint:
BRING BACK THE BOOKMARKS
I want to like a song but not all liked songs do I want to bookmark - I use my bookmarks to research music I'm loving and purchase tracks!
This is a massive functionality decrease!
I love Pandora, I'm a Pandora One subscriber, please bring this feature back!

NOT HAPPY WITH THIS !!! Now I can no longer use the Pandora gadget. It just opens another web page and starts playing. I don't want the web to be always up, that's why I used the gadget. If you click on anything pertaining to Pandora, it starts a completely different window, pauses what was playing on the original window and begins playing again. ANNOYING !!!!!
Posted by: Mike McCormick at September 22, 2011 11:01 AM
Dear Pandora,
The site no longer functions at work, which is where I do most of my listening. Now ,apparently, there is no more bookmark function, so I guess if a song sounds good enough that I want to buy it later, I'll have to pull out a pen and paper, which would be fine, if I could listen to music at a place where those things are easily accessable, like say, work.
You kinda threw this at us without warning, didn't you? My day just suddenly got a little worse. From reading the above posts, it sounds like you didn't do a very good job beta testing.
I guess my question is; why take a good thing and completely revamp it? Were people complaining that they want something totally different? I hate to be cliche, but if it's not broken don't fix it...right? I am forced to no longer use this service due to circumstances beyound my (but not your) control.

I'm sad. Explanation on why take this function away?
Posted by: Jun at September 22, 2011 11:24 AM
The new format is fine, but on my system (large desktop speakers powered by a Technics amp) the sound of the music has changed dramatically. I don't know if you are using more compression now or the new HTML format has somehow changed the way the music sounds, but I'm finding it very uncomfortable to listen to.
Posted by: Todd at September 22, 2011 11:52 AM
taking away functionality? WEAK.
But seriously - WHY IS THE FREAKIN RADIO STATION LIST ALWAYS SORTED BY "DATE ADDED"? WHO CARES WHEN YOU ADDED THE STATION? WHY CAN'T I SET THE SORT TO BE ALPHABETICAL, AND HAVE IT STAY THAT WAY?
Software designers that think they know more than their users will be out of a job eventually. "Date Added" is meaningful when I look at my bank transactions. It isn't meaningful when I look at a list of radio stations.
Who at Padora thinks making "date added" the default sort is a good idea (not a UX designer - must be a "suit"). Personally, I'm not sure why "date added" is relevant at all. Alphabetical, Sort-by-Genera, Sort by "most played (by me)" makes sense.
Sort by date added?? WHO CARES? I added 5 radio stations over the course of 2 days about a year ago. Does ANYONE (seriously - ANYONE) think I would (A) care about what order that was? (B) remember what order that was? and (C), most importantly, find any USE VALUE around keeping up with what order that was?
On the other hand, I almost never use Pandora through the web browser, so I will never have to put up with it. I stream pandora thorough a web-enabled hardware device that connects my computer to my stereo, and by doing it that way, there is no "40 hour limit" (never was), and I never hear commercials. So much for QA testing again! (more necktie damage I suppose. I bet the engineers thought it should be tested).
I still plan to pay for the $36/year subscription because I think Pandora provides a quality service and it's worth $3 a month to me. However, it ain't because of the new design, that's for sure.
As for the people who miss "bookmarking a song" or artist - you can easily make a station based on a single song or artist. Doesn't that work ok? Just a thought - I have a lot of single artist stations (though few single-song stations)
Posted by: DJ at September 22, 2011 11:53 AM
All I am getting is "There are no more songs to play on this station" after the page opened and the player scrolled through a list of songs. Now none of my stations play and display only this message.
I've been using Pandora since it was a good music player, way way back in the day before it started playing a thousand ads instead of music and becoming terrible, and free went from "not having to pay" to "pay for this or be water-boarded by advertisments and limitations on what you can do".

Posted by: Stephen at September 22, 2011 12:12 PM
Love the new look, but the functionality still needs improvement. While listening to music, a song will start to play and within 10 seconds will stop and a new song will start playing. This is frustrating for me as I start listening to a song a I really like, then it abruptly stops and starts playing something else. After reading all the negative posts, I think a year was not nearly long enough to work on this project before launch. I'm loyal Pandora listener and hope these issues get sorted out.
Posted by: Tiff-Honey at September 22, 2011 12:47 PM
I used to be able to refresh Pandora and get new songs if I didn't like the ones playing, now when I try it just continues playing the song, I don't like that. It should really be an option because I liked refreshing the page and getting a song from a completely different genre.

I am kinda sad today, went to log in to Pandora like a do on a normal day. Wow, was I surprised, and not like a huge present under the x-mas treet surprised...more like I stepped in a piece of gum with my favorite shoes surprised!!! My songs are sketchy, it's like it can't catch up to the song like a bad download or a scratch in a cd. Loved my other features and set-up. I am not one to ever write a message or blog, but I seriously felt the need today. Hope the developers will take everyones comments into consideration and change some things back to how they were. Just sayin'...

The new interface looks nice, but it keeps skipping. It will play the first 10-15 seconds and then skip to the next song. This happens at least a couple of times per hour.
I also find it less intuitive than the old interface. It seems like style over substance.

What happened to the bookmark function?
Posted by: Joe at September 22, 2011 2:28 PM
Had to upgrade toIE9 to use. but each time try and access pandora am told my browser needs to be udpated.
"my shuffle" feature has bugs. each time I get timed out of pandora, which is frequently today, I have to go in and recreate "my shuffle".
the navigation around the site is clunky. gets locked up or hovers over something and before you know it you are having to refresh or start over.
I suspect some of these issues are because I am at work/network/firewall/security type issues.I think many of us who use this at work to stream music during the day are prob goign to have to find another option.
what a shame. loved pandora for years.
Posted by: B at September 22, 2011 2:35 PM
Ever since the format change, my music seems to "skip." I play the musice for clients in the spa so this is not good at all.
When I had the choice of the old format, the music did not skip.

Why did you remove BOOKMARKS? I used Bookmarking alot because at work I don't have time to click around, so I would just quickly Bookmark it. I wonder if Last.FM has it...
Posted by: David at September 22, 2011 3:06 PM
The new Pandora is ugly. How can anyone find the eye-blinding design attractive? It looks like an old-school computer design, but NOT in a good way. The new design is also too tall and narrow. Why does the website now look like it would be more at home on a smartphone than on my computer?
I like the removal of the 40 hour cap, but why did bookmarking leave too? Bookmarks were a very useful feature. Upgrades should not lose useful features.
Why did you have to try to fix something that wasn't broken? Your "fix-it" attempt broke my favorite website. The old Pandora worked fine. The new one has some serious flaws.
Not to say I won't still listen to Pandora, but I cringe every time I gaze upon its hideous new appearance.
Posted by: Amanda at September 22, 2011 3:22 PM
The slider bar beside the station list is way too narrow. It is cumbersome to have to zero in on that thin area to slide my station list up and down.

I am really struggling to find the search functions in the new interface. The old interface had a way to search for songs as well and stations shared by all users. So far I've only been able to search for stations shared by friends. I hope the search capability gets put back to what it was, or if it is already there, I hope it gets easy to find.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Here are two things I'd like to point out:

2) Bookmarks. Note that you can "like" a track *without* giving it a thumbs up. To do this just click on the song title, then click "Like this track". This way you can make a note of tracks that you like without influencing the currently playing station, which is similar to how bookmarks worked. As for the positive aspects of bookmarks that are not covered by "likes" that many of you have pointed out here, thanks for the feedback, I've shared it with the product team.

To Whom It May Concern,
Why? Why have you taken what is likely to be the greatest invention of our time into the realm of heavy-handed control-freakism when it was already a virtual treature trove of information gathering tactics, profitable applications, and psychological sales strategies? I will most likely continue to use this site, if allowed; but, I feel that I must warn you that I can clearly see a backlash on the horizon against the ever increasing trend towards customer control that many of today's modern businesses are foolishly embracing. I predict that names will be taken and that entire corporartions will be held accountable for their willingness to comply with this silly scheme. However, for now, ride the tiger, my friends. Ride the tiger.

I really really miss the bookmark feature from the old Pandora. I would use it over the "like" or "dislike" button because I would feel it would alter the station in ways I wouldn't like. But the bookmarking was great for remembering a great song or artist to check out more deeply at a later time. I've been able to discover so many great new artists that way or remember a song title of a song I had always heard.
PLEASE BRING BACK THE BOOKMARKS!

My old iBook was the dedicated Pandora machine, but now I have to throw into landfill, and fork out money for something newer that can load new Safari, Firefox , Flash etc.
Many email to company and they just say we can prorate your refund... If I ran my numerous businesses this way, I'd have gone bankrupt decades ago... I HATE the new throw-away tech world!!!!!!!!!! I know how to use a MANUAL can opener- for cryin' out loud.
Aren't you tried-and-true computer users with older machines just steamed??!!

PLEASE continue to give us the option of switching back to the old interface. It sounds like alot of people like the new look, but I am personally one of the people that has been clicking the link to the "old look" for the past month or so. I actually liked the fact that when you clicked on album or artist info, a new window opened up instead of the way it is now. Also, with the new interface, when you click on an artist, you still get info on them, but if you click on an album, there's no specific review or info on the album...still the artist.
I do like the feature of being able to "like" an entire album, not just a song.

Is there no access for me now?
Guess I'll have to use a competitor site.

First, I get the "would you like to upgrade", I click "No thanks", then I get the screen that says, "OK, you can keep listening to the ad-sponsored version". I try to click "Continue" and nothing happens. It's totally frozen on that page. I can't click on 'now playing', 'profile' or anything. I clicked on help and wrote an e-mail, but there's no "send" button to send the email! How do I get to my stations to edit them??? I just did all the troubleshooting for Internet Explorer listed above and it didn't change a thing. This is driving me nuts! Is there a phone number or another way to email pandora?

I like how fast the startup is, a lot better than before but about 4 or five hours after logging in i am being dropped out and forced to relog, sometimes it happens after three songs some times it just happens to stick at an ad and hang, i reload the page and it logs me out. that gets annoying very fast.
also i dont see an option to "save username and password" or anything of the like on the main page.

right now it just played an ad in the middle of my song.
hopefully me writing these helps you guys see where to look for improvement... after all thats the only reason im writing them

I've been a Pandora One subscriber for over 2 years now.
New isn't always better. The new look and feel require a little more horsepower in the CPU which unfortunately in my system causes skipping / pauses in the song every few seconds.
I would have liked the option to revert to the "old" style for older cpu's.
By coincidence, my Pandora One account expires tomorrow, and sadly that will be the way that it stays.
Good bye Pandora, you are not the only music provider out there.

I cannot get the new Pandora to work. I keep getting this error message: We've encountered an error. Sorry, it's our fault. Please click 'reload' to continue listening. When I click reload, I geet the same message. After awhile, the message changes to:There are no more songs to play on this station. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Nice new look and I'm sure new features, but the one big difference I've noticed is that the inactivity timer has gone away. Used to comfortably go to bed w/ music playing knowing Pandora would stop broadcasting after several hours. Not so Pandora One; 12/16 hours later, it's still sending music. Now assuming Pandora pays royalities based upon number of listeners, the timer should save money ... no? If the royality scenario is not true, forget this post.

Bottom line: WITHOUT BOOKMARKS I WILL NO LONGER USE PANDORA. At all.
I used Bookmarks to make lists of sings for later purchase - with this feature I cold "collect" bookmarked songs for a few weeks, then use the "Purchase All" feature form my Profile to get all of them from Amazon with a minimum of clicks. The fact that you removed this feature simply shows that your Product Managers are not doing their jobs and researching how users actually USE your product!
Now it looks like I have to make "single song" stations or look back through my "Likes", the compile a purchase list manually (which I simply won't do). Are you actively TRYING to make it HARDER for me to purchase music using Pandora as a referral? Because that's exactly what you did.
Please put Bookmarks back, otherwise I will NOT be using Pandora any longer and will begin researching your competitors - surely one of THEM want the referral $ on my music purchases...

Not as good as it was.....constant skipping while streaming. Especially when trying to navigate through the site, which is also not as simple. Tried listening for a few minutes yesterday, had to turn it off and go back to my iPod. Just turned it on again this morning and same thing. Really disappointed but glad I haven't upgraded yet, which I was planning to do now that I have an iPad.
Posted by: MK at September 23, 2011 6:59 AM
To everyone complaining about why it needs Flash: you're failing to realize that while Pandora has given their interface a (much-needed) HTML-based uplift, the technology they're using for audio loading/streaming/playing is still Flash (a hidden SWF). THERE IS NO HTML EQUIVALENT FOR THIS, HTML5 or otherwise. Therefore the "skin" now works like a real (HTML5-ish) website would, but you're still playing it using the plugin.

I can't pause anymore. Whenever I pause it, it won't start back up again when I hit play and I have to refresh the page or change the station. Beyond that, and the lack of ability to bookmark, the new layout is fine. Just please fix the pause problem
Posted by: Alex at September 23, 2011 7:08 AM
Five minutes after I paid $36 to upgrade to Pandora One, I began getting a message on all of my stations: "THERE ARE NO MORE SONGS TO PLAY ON THAT STATION". When I deleted all of my stations and created a new station, same result. I am unable to play a single song on my account.
I never had a problem with Free Pandora. I paid $36 for Pandora One, and now I have been blocked from using my account to listen to music. How happy am I?
Posted by: AlanHouston at September 23, 2011 7:15 AM
I like the new look, but my Pandora skips constantly and I keep going back to it to see if it's been fixed and it hasn't been. So I go to listening to playlist.com or something else. I enjoy listening to Pandora, but not when the songs skip constantly.
Please fix soon! Thanks. :)
Posted by: Elizabethian at September 23, 2011 7:19 AM
The site freezes if you pause for more than a few seconds - say, 5 minutes. When you click play again it wont play again. You can sometimes skip to next track to get it started again. If not, you have to refresh the page. I dont remember this happening on the old site. I like the new one, but wanted to bring this up so that hopefully it can be fixed.
PS: Kudos on adding comedy to the genres!
Posted by: Rhino McAwesomePants at September 23, 2011 7:23 AM
The biggest problem I am having with the new site is deselecting stations for my custom quick mix. When I uncheck the stations, they actually recheck themselves back on!
What's up with that?
Posted by: Adam at September 23, 2011 7:56 AM
I pause a song, and i can't un-pause it. this has happened several times in the four hours I've been listening to pandora today. I click pause, and then I click play, and the song is stuck. It won't play, and no other station will work either, so than I have to reload the webpage in order to get my music back. THIS REALLY SUCKS, especially if I like the song I paused.
and it would be really nice to have a shorter list of my stations so i can scroll through them without maximizing my window.
Posted by: Roxanne at September 23, 2011 8:00 AM
"liking" a track is so much more arduous than the bookmarks. when i'm working, i just want to click a button and move on with work. Then when i'm off work, i will go back, make a station, or BUY the song. You want people to buy the songs right? make 'liking' or 'bookmarking' easier.
Posted by: Roxanne at September 23, 2011 8:03 AM
no "show all" button?????? I have hundreds of thumbed up tracks, now if I want to remove one I have to hit the "show more" button like 50 times sometimes (and after each hit I need to scroll down to refind the show more button).
This release is a perfect example of fashion over function...it looks pretty, but the old site worked much better for me.

I haven't been on the site in about a week. I really like the enhancements that I see.
Posted by: Scott at September 23, 2011 8:24 AM
This new site is horrible!!!! the only reason pandora exists is to listen to music, well it no longer succsesfully plays a song it constantly skips, and will not play even one song without screwing it up. CHANGE IT BACK!!!! this is horrible and if its not fixed soon then there is no point in me even coming to this site, i want to hear a whole song withoout pandora screwing it up
Posted by: Ethan at September 23, 2011 8:27 AM
My two primary problems with the new site is that the default to what was last played on THAT computer has gone away. AND that the Custom Quick mix (blending 5-15 of the 100 stations I have) appears to have gone away!! When I have VERY eclectic and diverse music interests, I want to blend my own mood -- not all of them at once! FIRST: At home I listen to quick mix custom blend, at work I listen to an easy station... now when I boot up at work -- it pulls the last station CREATED, which is a loud thumpy thing that doesn't go in my more conservative work environment. SECOND Please bring back the custom blend option of quick mix AND default back to what THAT computer was doing. AND Lastly, the usability of the scroll bar for the stations now requires me to also use the far right window scroll to get to the whole thing (and no I don't have a big fancy screen like you may have). That's NOT user friendly to most folks out there with 15" monitors. I was happy with the old version -- is there anyway you can PLEASE give us the CHOICE like you did for a week or so. Thanks -Mary

I agree with all those who have asked for the bookmark feature to be restored / made more obvious. I enjoyed having the ability to keep notes on songs and artists I found interesting without having to modify my stations once I had them consistently playing music I like.

Love the new HTML5 player. One comment however. The disappearing and reappearing ad box on the right hand side is really annoying. Every time the ad box disappears the whole player moves and then when it reappears it moves again. This is especially annoying when I am trying to select/deselect a bunch of station to shuffle through.

I do not see how I can play a genre now, like "classical" which I used to do on a regular basis- but I still believe in you so much I bought the stock even through I realized it would probably go down initially (which it did significantly!) and I will still hold it!!
Posted by: Jasper Green at September 23, 2011 9:27 AM
If I'm lucky, I can get about an hour of listening in before Pandora just stops working. Buttons cease to function. The only option is to reload the page, but then it goes to a Pandora splash screen and never finishes loading the rest of the site (and most importantly, never loads the music player!). The only thing I've found to work consistently is exiting the browser altogether, and re-opening. But as an option at work, this is not feasible 90% of the time as I need the browser windows open to keep working. I've even attempted the "Ctrl+F5" reload which should completely refresh all data for the page and get nothing except the Pandora background.
Kind of disappointed....

Posted by: Karen at September 23, 2011 10:04 AM
Sucks. "The look" is kind of nice, but not practical. I'm one who likes to keep a very long list of Thumbed-up Tracks. In the new design, this takes up way more space than it needs to and is much harder to browse and tweak. I like to see what other songs by a given artist are already on my list before I give them another thumbs up. Good luck with that, if they happen to be towards the end of the alphabet! No longer is there a button to show all, instead I have to hit "Show more" over and over and over and over and over...
Posted by: Marcy at September 23, 2011 10:17 AM

- Can't restart after pausing.
- Rocky transitions between songs: a new song starts before the previous ends, you hear adds and song at the same time, etc.
Can't say I'm happy with the new player...
Posted by: rr at September 23, 2011 10:37 AM
PS - Confirming the "song will not resume from pause" in Chrome (latest version), running on PC *or* Mac. Must be skipped or Pandora refreshed to resume playback. Starting to be REALLY tempted by the thought of Googling "Pandora competing services"... :(

Lots of good comments here, good and bad. I liked the old site a bit better myself, but will give the new site a try. But why did you switch and start alphabetizing bands under "The"? Much easier to find Grateful Dead under "Grateful Dead" and Rolling Stones under "Rolling Stones" than "The Grateful Dead" and "The Rolling Stones". Never really seen that done before at libraries, music stores, I-Tunes. Seems rather unprofessional.
Posted by: Chip at September 23, 2011 12:50 PM
Another vote for the return bookmarks here - "likes" are not the same, and being able to bookmark songs and artists was one of my favorite features of pandora.
Posted by: Elizabeth at September 23, 2011 1:01 PM
I like the new layout aesthetically but that's about it. I'm actually pretty livid that my entire listening history ("thumbed up" and thumbed down" tracks) has been wiped. I've been a listener for 4 years and I didn't have that information stored anywhere else and now it's lost forever. Also if you don't want to "follow" people, it is extremely frustrating to scroll through and keep reloading the facebook friends list to view friends. Like the old one was also separated into pages but you didn't have to reload every 5 contacts and it was much easier to reload.
Posted by: Bridget at September 23, 2011 1:14 PM
Player doesn't work. I've gone through the "help" page steps completely and I keep getting "There are no more songs to play on this station." I've tried exiting out of all IE windows and opening a new window, I've restarted my computer, I've tried Google Chrome, nothing is working. Like many other new technologies, the "testing/debugging" portion of the budget must've been cut for this new version of Pandora. Likely a very grave mistake on management's part. As others have mentioned, I'm tempted to google "internet radio" to see what competitors are out there... :(

Never ever had problems with old pandora. With new pandora, problems ALL THE TIME. Songs refusing to restart after pause. Channels just plain freezing up after playing for long enough times. I'm now having to constantly close my entire browser program to get my music to start up again. aaaaaaaaaaaaagh.
On the bright side I'm not having the 'skipping' issue some people are, other than that when it does the "Are you listening?" timeout it often plays a splitsecond of the song beforehand, so I get a weird little blip of noise, but that's not really a problem.
Posted by: emily at September 24, 2011 7:14 PM
The AIM desktop app still works, which is nice since it doesn't seem to have the same problems as the website with lag, skipping, pausing, and resource use. However, using any of the information links on the desktop app launches the new HTML5.x player rather than listing the information you are actually looking for. In spite of this, I hope you keep the desktop app available.

'Showing my age, but I've always been a fan of album cover art. It's never been the same since CDs arrived on the seen. However, listening online now gives album/CD artwork a new format.
I would love to have an option that would allow me to view the album/CD covers in fullscreen on my monitor and switch as each new song is played. I don't think I'm the only one who would enjoy this opportunity to once again enjoy album cover art.
I'll take payment for this idea in the form of a few free month of subscription use. Still, $3 per month is a bargain. Thanks.

Please return bookmarks.
Before: like songs to tell the music engine to play more like it; bookmark songs to mark for later purchase - a very simple process where I go to my profile, select bookmarks, buy all. A few clicks and done.
Now: the only way I can effectively 'mark' songs for later purchase is to share/email to myself, then when ready to purchase, go back through the list and purchase each song individually.
Do the record companies and music retailers you have contracts with know that you just made it substantially less convenient for me to buy music?

Why do You say "for all" as I can't even log in to pandora, it says that it is restricted for use in my country (Sweden)...
Posted by: Johan Gustavsson at September 25, 2011 3:40 PM
I can no longer display my entire list of 'thumbed-up' songs in station details; I have to tediously expand the list by ten at a time by clicking on the 'show more' button. This doesn't seem bad, but when I have over 300+ thumbed-up songs, it takes 10 minutes to get to artists that start with 'S'. So now I realistically cannot find songs in the depth of my playlist that I may want to YouTube, for example. Lame.

Posted by: Josh at September 25, 2011 4:20 PM
While I like the new layout, there is an issue I am having with it. When I click the drop down tab for shuffle I can't see what is listed. It is blocked out by the album art screen and the song/band info. I'm guessing this is why when I'm in quick mix I can't edit a station also.

The new look is great! However, is it really necessary to have the ads refresh on every single click? I mean, I click the scroll bar to go through my stations and it renews the ad. This especially slows down the connection on my netbook. It plays music fine, but when it has to update the ads with every click on the scroll bar - things nearly freeze up! Please address. Thanks.

Yesterday I went to Pandora to listen to some music. I was surprised when I typed in the URL and found a totally different website. What happened to the Pandora I knew and loved? I can't really put it any other way so I'll be blunt. I think the new website SUCKS. In my opinion the functionality and style of the "old" Pandora was perfect. It was clean, easy to understand, and I could keep it in a neat little browser window in the corner of my desktop. I could pull it up, adjust volume, look at what was playing, etc., all in that neat little window. Now I've got to have a window at least twice the size of what I used to use, and the new style is just ugly looking. Please bring the old Pandora back, or perhaps offer an option for listeners to choose the style they like. Thanks for creating such an awesome music listening experience, just don't go fixing what isn't broken. It rarely pays off.

How do I stop the Living Social ad from popping up on every song?
Posted by: Chris Burrows at September 26, 2011 7:23 AM
There is something running behind the website with a Facebook link and my employer has Facebook blocked so I am unable to load Pandora. Before the new version there were some advertising links on Pandora that must not have had a Facebook link as after I attempted to load it between 5 to 27 times it would run. Since the upgrade I tried for over an hour and never got it to load. This is what I get: "Sorry, we couldn't find http://www.facebook.com/extern/login_status.php%3Fapi_key%3D139475280761. Here are some related websites: "
Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

I just want to voice - like others - that I miss bookmarking songs and artists. I use it to buy albums on iTunes.
Thanks.

Can you please give back the option to use the old site format? Although the new version may be aesthetically pleasing to some, I am not a fan. The songs will sometimes not play and the browser will freeze (a computer issue, I know... but I did not have any problems with the old version on the same pc). Also, I definitely miss the bookmark option. It is very inconvenient to have to write songs down versus click and move on. Please, if nothing else, give us the bookmarks back!
Posted by: B at September 26, 2011 7:47 AM
So I posted previously that the new site was nice except for the skipping when you try to do anything. Well it's downright annoying now and will cut off songs even when you do not touch it, let alone attempt to like a song and it'll stop for awhile. I am going back to listening to my radio station. I really enjoyed getting a mix of music on Pandora that I couldn't listen to anywhere else. I may check back periodically, to see if you fix the skipping bug, but if not I can't say I'll be here any longer if I can't actually listen to the songs.

I like the new UI, it feels up to date and is very reminiscent of Android devices. What I do not like is the default selection of all of my stations in custom mix. What furthers my disdain for this change is that when I deselect a station, the ads refresh causing a good deal of wait between each deselection. IF I continue down and deselect even 3 stations, only the first deselection is remembered after the ad reset. This occurs even while having playback paused.
This is extremely annoying, so much so that I have actually turned off Pandora. Please change how this operates.
Posted by: Brad at September 26, 2011 8:35 AM
TERRIBLE!!
The new site has no bookmarks (one of the best features). Even worse, it lags all the time!! It's like listening to a CD player before skip protection. TERRIBLE!!! I don't know what you changed, but I DO NOT CARE what it looks like. Please restore the old functionality and features.
Posted by: Russell at September 26, 2011 9:42 AM
You're really rolled out a great update here. I can't help but compare to Netflix which has ticked off most of their customers.
@ Mike - there is still a "tired of this song" feature - you just need to click on the arrow between the thumbs up and thumbs down.

I was playing the new site in Firefox, paused it. When I came back a couple days later, I unpaused it, but no music. I couldn't get it or Firefox to respond at all, and the Task Manager showed FireFox and the underlying Pandora app each taking about 1GB of memory. It was difficult to even get killed and restarted.
I'd say you have some more work to do. I like the looks of it otherwise.
Posted by: Steve at September 26, 2011 1:49 PM
The new Pandora is like driving a ferrari with flat tires.
It sure looks pretty but the streaming is terrible. The main function is to play music and I've yet to have one song play without stops and delays.
Until this gets fixed you will find me on slacker.

hmmmm....well the new site looks better, but i haven't been able to play one song without it 'glitching' or skipping at least twice. it keeps blaming my slow internet, but the old site never had any problems...hopefully this will be resolved in the future :S otherwise its time to move on from pandora and back to yahoo

I am a paying member and I am really frustrated that the add bookmark option is gone. This was *THE* most elegant way for me to build my "music to buy" list. Since in the old skin it is still there WHY is this missing in the new version?
PLEASE BING IT BACK!

Great becoming the next facebook. I could care less for the new design, I can no longer refresh the page to skip the loads of crappy music I'm force-fed because of "licensing", and even the application lags.
Planning to move to a different music site, thanks for screwing it all up, Pandora.

I do like the cool new look of Pandora.
But could it be tweaked to restore some of the user-friendly features of the old site? Specifically:
1. Can you restore the ability to move a song playing on one station to two or more different stations?
Now I can only move a song to ONE different station. If I try to move it to other stations, the icon no longer appears to allow me to do so.
2. Can you return to automatically showing the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down feature for all songs?
With the new site, you have to physically move your mouse over the album art before you can see the Thumbs feature for past songs. It was so much simplier when it just permanently appeared below all songs.
3. Can you restore the Show All feature on station pages? With the new site, you have to click over & over again to call up all your Thumbed-Up or Thumbed-Down Tracks. That's because you can only call up tracks in five-song increments. That takes quite some time when you have 200 Thumbed-Up Tracks.
4. Can you restore the feature that used to suggest tracks to check out. It said things like: "Try Tracks 1, 3 & 5" or "Try Tracks 1,8 &10." That was a useful guide to me.
On an unrelated note, I noticed that Pandora has a number of albums in its inventory that have no analyzed tracks. That means that no songs off these great albums are available for occasional listening. Some such albums have sat in this dormant, unanalyzed state since I joined Pandora three years ago (2008).
If I began to request songs off these albums, could it finally get them into the rotation? Some of these are hit albums.
The albums include The Tubes' Completion Backward Principle, the Doobie Brothers' Living on the Fault Line, Utopia's Redux '92: Live in Japan, the Atlanta Rhythm Section's A Rock & Roll Alternative, Gino Vannelli's Live In Montreal and The Pursuit of Happiness' Love Junk & One-Sided Story albums, to name just a few.
Posted by: Larry Burton at September 26, 2011 4:52 PM
Nice!
What it really needs is weighted scoring rather than just "yes i like" or "no i don't like".
It would hone in better on what songs to pick
Posted by: Chris at September 26, 2011 5:24 PM
I agree the music does come through choppy now, where it didn't before. And my computer system is very, very fast.
Posted by: Chris at September 26, 2011 5:27 PM
Not only does song playing hang, the ability to enter comments errors. Not good.
Many bugs in the new Pandora. Just tried to pause a song, and Pandora kept happily playing. And then hung. Seems to hang quite a bit more now, never had an issue with the old one.
Also, why do my station default to listing by Date, with no option to change it? I always search by alphabet, not date (date added, I assume?).
And I agree with the comments re: removal of the hours cap. Nice 'thank you' to paying customers.
Posted by: Wendy D at September 26, 2011 5:34 PM
Hey guys,
All of your old bookmarks are still available -- simply go to "Profile," and then click on "Bookmarks." That will show you all of your old bookmarks -- it shows me the 1544 songs I b'marked.
And I believe the new system automatically bookmarks every song you like so you don't have to press two buttons.

I know people just hate change, but it will happen anyway, so congrats on rolling out your hard work.
HOWEVER, the bottom line is that anything new should work at least a well as the old thing. The music constantly skips or "hiccups" whenever I am in the bowser window, like I'm trying to run with a portable cd player. Can you fix this, pretty pretty please?! Not all of us have the luxury of a really fast computer, on a really fast connection with no other traffic on the server. The new site is way to clunky.
I also have to add my vote to others to bring back the bookmark feature, and let us edit station details without actually being on that particular station.
All in all these are just heartfelt requests, but if nothing else, please make it work again!

Is there a new way to set an alternate profile picture (other than your current facebook one)yet? I know there wasn't for the old pandora...
Also how do I find my old "thumbed up" or likes tracks. That's different than bookmarks I'm pretty sure, right? It used to display all "thumbed up" and "thumbed down" and now I can't find it anywhere which is frustrating because I used to revisit those for downloading new music and I didn't make any bookmarks.

I have tried emailing Pandora customer support but they have not been helpful. I'll be asking for a refund for my Pandora One membership if the situation does not improve (and judging by these comments, I'm clearly not the only one having issues).

PLEASE offer the old site as a premium option. I WILL PAY MORE FOR IT!
Want $40? Done. More? Say it.
This new thing does not work for us. We are in a dynamic work environment, and rely on hassle-free music to facilitate our performance.
Money is not an issue. Performance is what we need. You had it, and fumbled. We do that, too. Fess up, and fix the error. Please offer what worked to those who can pay for it.
Those who can't or won't pony up the cash can use your new thing. I wish them great enjoyment.
The Music Genome Project is a work of genius. The bar is set high. I fervently hope to see it raised further.

Hi,
Since the upgrade, I am unable to listen to music at work. I keep getting this error: "We've encountered an error. Sorry, it's our fault. Please click 'reload' to continue listening."
I reload, it repeats. I wait a day and try reloading it again and again, and it repeats. I am using Explorer, as I do not have access to use different browsers on my work computer. Does anyone have suggestions for how I might correct this? Are others having this issue? Thanks.

I haven't gotten to explore all of the new features, but it sounds like there are certainly some improvements, however, my favorite feature, bookmarks, is now gone. I listen to Pandora mostly when at work, so I can't spend all day writing down every song or artist I like. The bookmark feature allowed me to quickly save it, so that I could come back to it later and see what artists and albums I may want to purchase. I'm VERY disappointed this feature is now gone.

Anyone addressing the skipping!? I love Pandora, I've been building stations for FIVE YEARS but can't handle the skipping any longer. What is causing it?
Posted by: Dannie at September 27, 2011 4:59 PM
The lack of the bookmarks feature, which I loved, is completely insane and there must be some money-related reason for them taking it away because it just makes no sense otherwise. I've written them twice about it and have gotten really dumb boilerplate responses. This forces you to only "like," or "thumbs up," or whatever, songs that you want to bookmark. I liked having the two separate lists before - one of songs I really liked and would probably buy (bookmarks), and one of songs I liked and may want to look up in the future.
Also, what's with taking away the "show all" option? I can't see the ENTIRE list of songs that I liked, or the ENTIRE list of artists that I'm "seeding" for a station. You have to press "show more" over and over to eventually find the artist/song you might be looking for. I mean...really?!?!?!?
I'd pay the $36 to get the old layout back. I told them this in the email and now I'm saying it here. PLEASE
Posted by: Naomi at September 27, 2011 5:40 PM
It looks nice but it no longer works, I can not hear any music unless I change stations and then only one song. The help screes are useless.
So all in all I guess the trade-off is nice looking vs. no music.
Posted by: Harold at September 27, 2011 5:44 PM
The 'new and improved version' absolutely stinks. First of all, it is not compatible with older versions of Firefox, which I have by choice. Secondly, when I use it on other computers, the ads are annoying and sometimes inappropriate. And I could go on, but others have already pointed the rest of my complaints. My biggest complaint, however, is this: the new version is non-functional. Which means it is completely useless.
Do yourselves a big favor and either fix all these bugs REALLY fast, or go PLEASE just back to the old version. What was so wrong with it that you had to make these radical changes? You really had something on everyone else, please don't throw it all away...

For IE9 users:
For anyone seeing "Encountered an error...",
1.Go to the 'gear' symbol in the top left of IE9
2.Select internet options
3.Go to the advanced tab
4.Click the "Restore advanced settings" button
5.Restart internet explorer, try pandora.com.
If it's still not working try the "reset" button in the same section as the "Restore advanced settings" button (I think I used both, so I'm not sure if you only need one or the other).

"2) Bookmarks. Note that you can "like" a track *without* giving it a thumbs up. To do this just click on the song title, then click "Like this track". This way you can make a note of tracks that you like without influencing the currently playing station, which is similar to how bookmarks worked. As for the positive aspects of bookmarks that are not covered by "likes" that many of you have pointed out here, thanks for the feedback, I've shared it with the product team."
This is good news to read (luckily I saw it in a field of hundreds of comments!) however, this still needs improvements.
1)'Like' is different than a 'thumbs up'? This is NOT CLEAR to users. Hence the hundreds of complaints.
2)The 'Like this song' button has a thumbs up button graphic next to it. Are you TRYING to confuse me?
3)The 'Like this song', your replacement for bookmarking, now requires 3 click - song name, like this song, then click back to now playing.
4)Reviewing my 'likes' on my news feed is a screen hog and mixed with all other activity. I liked the small compact list of all my bookmarked history.

The new page is eye catching but I'm glad I'm not the only one having the problem with the music skipping for a second or two. It's making me a little crazy. I try to remember that in the old days, when we listened to radios (remember those days), the music wasn't always clear too. If this skipping problem continues, I may need to find a different online radio station because let's face it, internet radio SHOULD be better than my transistor. I'm sure it's just a kink in the system that needs to be worked out.

It would be better if the songs wouldn't buffer / pause every 10 seconds. Arghh this drives me nuts. I want to keep listening but the constant buffering is too much for a loyal user to get over.
Posted by: dakirkpa at September 28, 2011 9:19 AM
I miss bookmarks! That's how you guys got sales out of me. I'd bookmark songs I really love and wanted to buy. Then when I had extra cash, I'd go in and purchase my entire bookmark list. Without this functionality, I'm afraid I won't be purchasing music I hear on Pandora since there's no way for me to keep track of it anymore.
Posted by: Jessica at September 28, 2011 9:24 AM
Let me add my voice to the chorus that are lamenting the removal of bookmarks. I tend to not "like" on my stations, because when I do, it seemed to severely restrict the variety on that station. I used the bookmarks as a to be reviewed later sort of feature, and I miss them greatly now.
Posted by: Cameron B. at September 28, 2011 10:29 AM
The new look is great, but something you guys changed is now causing each song to skip about ever other second during playback. I'm sure it must have a lot to do with my own internet connection speed, but I never had this problem with the old site. :( It's terribly distracting, and I probably wont be listening to site anymore because of it.

PUT BOOKMARKS BACK. Yes, it looks nicer. Yes, the website will make you more money without me paying anything towards it. But NO this does not function better for your users.
My question for your marketing brains is this:
What possibly made you think bookmarks were a bad idea? If you decided they were a bad idea, please explain why you thought they were a good idea before. Either way it's illogical.
Rule #1: Don't fix what's not broke.

I, for one, wasn't even aware of bookmarks on the old version. But while I'm putting in my 1/2000 of a cent, I had a thought...
What if, when pausing, stopping, skipping, or thumbs-downing a song, the music player very quickly faded to silence rather than abruptly and discordantly cutting. I mean, this isn't the age of mechanical cassette players. A more sophisticated pause like that can't be that hard to program, right? Anyone agree with me?

I love that I can now Thumb up a song even after it is done playing!! There were so many times in the past that I listened to a new song the whole way through and missed my chance to click that I liked it. Thanks for the upgrade!
Posted by: Barbara at September 29, 2011 12:25 AM
I hate that you can't bookmark tracks anymore. Yes I know you can just check tracks that you've liked on your profile, but there's a difference between "Hey I like this song" and "Holy crap gotta bookmark this because it'd be a crime not to buy this song."
Please give us back our bookmark option.

I'm another huge Pandora fan who listens at work. The new format, for whatever reason, makes it impossible for me to listen now. The site just flips through the songs at about 1 per second, then tells me I have to re-load. They said they would pass this on to technical folks, but no word and no change :( Time to find another internet radio but I'm sad to leave.
Posted by: Deborah at September 29, 2011 6:36 AM
I like the new interface, though I haven't explored it much.
Love that you dropped the 40-hour limit.
HATE the memory-hog! Had to re-start my browser (ie) multiple times in the day! Then paused for a few hours, and >1GB of memory has been grabbed! BIG PROBLEM!
I love Pandora, and that it's introduced me to music I never would have known...but if I can't use my computer, I can't work!

The site looks great but it's not as user-friendly and functional as the old site. I miss the "bookmarks" feature. I used to use that to order/download music because I can't usually take the time to do at the time a song is playing. I also preferred the stations in alphabetical order so I could find what I was looking for. It takes to long to search my nearly 100 stations when they're out of order. Also, there's still a problem with the pause/play. When I "play" after a "pause" it pauses again within a minute or so.

The new pandora look and feel is GREAT. However, likes do NOT replace bookmarks. I often used bookmarks to remember songs later that I may or may not want to listen to later. I just want to have access to the list of songs without it affecting my playlists.
Please bring back bookmarks!!!

I haven't been able to get the site to play music since the update. Each time I click play I get the following error:
"We've encountered an error. Sorry, it's our fault. Please click 'reload' to continue listening. Reload"
When I click "reload", I get the same error. I try each day but still, no music.
Anyone have suggestions?

I had stopped using Pandora because of the 40 hour limit, so happy that was removed. And I think the new look is cool.

In regards to the reload problem, just what worked for me.
Hi,
Since the upgrade, I am unable to listen to music at work.
Thanks.

I went into pandora's troubleshooting page FOR internet explorer to fix the problem #didn't check the troubleshooting pages for the other browsers#. Step 3 #had to reopen ie to get the icon to appear# is what fixed it for me, but here ya go, copy and paste ftw. Other steps are on that page if this doesn't work. #http://help.pandora.com/customer/portal/articles/24255-internet-explorer-troubleshooting#
1. Install the Chrome Frame Plugin: http://www.google.com/chromeframe #You don't need administrative privileges to install this#
2. Clear your browser's Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and History
3. Turn off Compatability View. It's located to the right of the address bar in the browser #the icon looks like a piece of paper torn in half#. Click on the icon to disable it #blue is on, gray is off#.
4. Install the latest version of the Flash player: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I am one of the biggest supporters of pandora in the world, i have 2 accounts, and i rave to all my friends about it.
Now let me just say that I do not like the changes at all. Sure the fancy new Interface is cool, but it doesnt work well at all. I cant save my quickmix anymore, and when I try to go back to my shuffle it just plays all my stations-lame. Also, your ads play over songs now, which ruins both the ad and the song. Dont even get me started about removing bookmarks, as that was mine, and many others, favorite feature.
You have a great product, so dont change it for the worse. I was literally a week from paying for a pandora one account when the site changed. Your site has introduced me to so much new music I could never thank you enough, so please fix these issues and you will have another paying customer, happy to recomend you to friends. A little advice: Try a beta before releasing a major change like this to the public, Id be happy to try it out for you, and i know other enthusiats would as well.

Who says bookmarking is gone? Bookmarking is still here, and I don't just mean "accessing" the bookmarks but, rather, CREATING bookmarks is still in tact, ONLY THROUGH THE WINDOWS 7 SIDEBAR GADGET. And, for those saying the Win 7 Gadget sidebar is broken after Pandora's new update, it isn't broken for me. So uninstall, reinstall, or reformat, I dont know - but it's fine and I just tested "saving/creating" a new bookmark on the gadget and then confirmed its creating by visiting the Pandora website--my newly created bookmark was there. Happens flawlessly all the time.
Posted by: Kal-El at September 29, 2011 2:53 PM
Ok. Here are my thoughts after some time, as opposed to initial reactions.
I was looking forward to an HTML5 version of Pandora, because the Flash version pretty much killed my computer (100% CPU when running). The new version isn't much better. It seems to be the ads. Is it my imagination, or did ads get a lot busier?
The new site is prettier, but takes up a LOT of space. I like to carefully curate my lists. Everything was pretty accessible on the old version. But now, wow, it's a chore to see everything.
The whole "thumbs up" vs. "bookmark" is confusing and annoying. It seems like you've gotten lots of feedback about that. The "explanations" offered here don't make it better. There are two kinds of likes? One that affects the station and one that doesn't? Huh?
The net result: I listen only on my iPod Touch. And I'm listening to lots of Spotify lately.
Posted by: Geoff Allen at September 29, 2011 3:41 PM
New site is a mixed bag for me. I do appreciate the visual appeal of the listening page. I do not appreciate the miserable loss of functionality when it comes to finding out the music I am listening to. If I clicked on the artist or album previously it would take me to a new tab where I could read reviews and comments to my curiosity's content. Now it keeps it in the same tab (I prefer a new tab) but more frustratingly it completely jacks up the information that I used to get on an album page previously. The vast majority of the time I only see the first 6 to 8 characters of the track title and there is no longer any album review to be found. I know that a lot of the reviews weren't tremendously helpful in determining the actual quality of the music but I found the history that was included in some of the reviews to be fascinating.
In short, like the listening interface, hate the information interface.

Apparently they have done away with the Bookmark. How am I to now sort through my favorite songs without shifting through all of the music I like on my stations? Grrr.
Thanks for lifting the 40-hour cap... but can we get a better UI. This really isn't better UI. It's worse.

Pandora, you've lost my business. I didn't listen to internet radio until I got hooked on Pandora at my job over a year ago and have been listening 7 hours a day since. I honestly really don't like the look or removal of functionality of the new site (no bookmarks, extra clicks to perform tasks that were faster on the old site, being forced to view every piece of info in the same browser window - the list goes on). However, my main complaint is that Pandora is now a resource hog and it skips/pauses/freezes/hiccups like crazy if I do anything else on the computer, like my job.
I don't know one programming language from another, but I do know that Pandora worked just fine for me before and now it doesn't. When I paid for a subscription last December it was a different service. I wouldn't have paid for this, and I won't in the future. On the plus side, I've broadened my horizons a little this past week by seeking alternatives to Pandora. If there's not improvement in your service, there's no reason to come back.

I agree with others here. I love the new look and feel to the site.
That said, bookmarks are crucial, and they are very different from simple likes. Also, liking a song is different from a thumbs up or down. These features are key for tweaking stations and keeping track of the songs you especially like.
This was a serious, egregious oversight and needs to be fixed very quickly, or I am going to have to look for something else.
You really, really, really need to separate thumbs up and down from likes, and both need to be separate from bookmarks. They are different things and need to be different things on the site.
I use bookmarks to keep track of songs I find exceptional, but I thumbs up or down nearly every song that plays. I cannot keep track of my bookmarked songs this way.

I miss the user-friendly old version.
This new version, while looking good, does nothing but decrease functionality. Bookmarks, ability for browsers to auto-complete sign in fields, ability to remember sign-ins, remembering which station I was on... all functions lost.
Traded for a shiny new look? Not worth it.
I would say you failed in your objective.
...Let my lack of a voice be heard.

Bookmarking appears to be changed to the sharing section. There are options to share on Twitter and Facebook but you can also share it to you own profile which esseitially does the same thing as bookmarking. Hope that helps. I haven't read all the comments so hopefully this isn't redundant.

Hmm... seems like the majority feels the same as me - new Pandora is a fairly decent failure. I am tired of our society's severely retarded attention span, which suggests to businesses that they need to consistently "upgrade" their and their products' images and functionality when in all actuallity there is nothing wrong in the first place. I hesitate to be so trite, but really, "if it ain't broke, then DON'T FIX IT!" I realize that the collective corporate unconscious is driving well intentioned people to squeeze as much money out of the unaware masses and when this happens I usually quit giving them my business. Also, I usually do not impose my opinions about pop culture, as I am fine letting it go due to its uselessness in my present life, but I really do enjoy Pandora so here it is. It still plays music I like, and since I trust Pandora will never go back to the previously successful format, I will try to survive. Maybe Pandora's designers are trying to unsure job security! Spend a year screwing up the website, spend a year fixing the website, rinse and repeat... Sorry, that was un called for. At least bring bookmarking back please.

From Pandora|one (Desktop) I really used to like to be able to click on an artist name or album name and get information on that artist/album. The new site takes me only to generic www.pandora.com...not to the artist. I understand that growth some times comes with pain...I hope you are going to "grow" the site to again give me artist information. Until then, I am really sad about the change.

This info, posted by Seth, fixed the problem I was having with the new web page:
for IE9 users:
For anyone seeing "Encountered an error...",
1.Go to the 'gear' symbol in the top left of IE9
2.Select internet options
3.Go to the advanced tab
4.Click the "Restore advanced settings" button
5.Restart internet explorer, try pandora.com again
If it's still not working try the "reset" button in the same section as the "Restore advanced settings" button (I think I used both, so I'm not sure if you only need one or the other).
****************
I used the "Restore advanced settings" button and it worked.
Thank you Seth. It took me a long time to find this resolution.

My favorite old features was the ability to bookmark songs and purchase them later. What happened to it? I don't understand why you would take away such a great feature and make a great site go bad?
I expect that you will restore this functionality to the new site so that I can, at a later date, go back and purchase the song.

the old pandora was way better. the new website lags like switching stations takes like a minute and everything else is slower. Plus there seems to be more commmercials like no joke theres one after every two songs. The old pandora website was a lot better even though it didnt look as good as the new one does now.

I do like the new layout of Pandora, it seems like there are still a few bugs. In the past whenever I resumed my session after putting my computer to sleep it wouldn't skip songs or crash. I find with the new coding it sometimes either crashes or skips like 2 or 3 songs, often times great songs that I would have wanted to hear :( I then have to reload the page to get it to work properly.
It is visually appealing and much easier to operate if you have a large list of stations and THANK YOU so much for removing the 40 hour listening cap for free users. I do plan to support and pay for the service in the near future, I'm definitely grateful for the free service but it's time for me to support you guys for all your hard work. Thanks!

So, I've crawled around in help to figure out where y`all have hidden the search functionality, and the "likes" seem to be capable of doing what the old bookmarks did. It's less intuitive, but it works.
Ultimately, I am really unhappy with the new site, as it is very difficult for me to perform the actions I most commonly use the actual website for: exploring new music and marking songs/albums for later investigation. The primary reason for this is that I open multiple new tabs when I'm researching music, which now causes the radio to stop and start on various pages. Also, the website radio conflicts with my Pandora|One application, causing even more irritation.
**I would like to be able to enjoy Pandora and enjoy the Music Genome Project without them conflicting with each other.**
Perhaps you could add an option in the settings to not auto-start the radio? You could even make it a cookie, and have the radio check that when the page loads from the local comp so it doesn't have to go back to the database to retrieve the flag. I'd have to set it on each computer I go to, but that's a minor one-time annoyance. There's plenty of ways to solve this problem without a re-factor of the site, I'm sure y`all can figure out a clever solution for it.
Locally I can fix the problem by just blocking the radio on the website from loading when the page comes in, but that's kind of a gross hack to get around it, and that's unfair to other people that have mentioned having this same problem that might not be technically-inclined or uncomfortable doing that.
**I shouldn't have to write code/script to munge the website into a different website, just to get better functionality**

Why does Pandora give me the message: There are no more songs to play on this station.
Posted by: Stuart Landay at October 1, 2011 10:30 AM
Bookmarking gone, IHeart arrives, Spotify in the block: Pandora your days are numbered. One advantage Pandora has over the competition is to allow listeners discover new music. By removing bookmark function they are taking away the entire usability of this function. Now we are to have pen and paper ready to capture the new discoveries? Seriously.
On the bright side, this gives a great investment opportunity. Shorting the stock as soon as Monday rolls in.
Great service, great idea, poor, poor, poor decision making.

It would be great if we could save multiple shuffle lists, but at least save the last one I used. Also, in shuffle (which I use almost exclusively), you can't easily find the origin station of the song playing. It is impossible after the song has played. "Shuffle" is not a station. I can't give a thumbs-up or down if I don't know the origin station.

Bookmarks, bookmarks, bookmarks. Oh, and did I mention bookmarks? ESSENTIAL feature, please bring it back quickly. Like is not a comperable alternative, as I (and apparently the majority of other users) regularly "bookmark" music for future research and/or purchase that we do NOT want to influence our channel mix by Likeing. Who's with me here?
Posted by: robbie at October 2, 2011 8:52 PM
GREAT idea! I found some new artists. Love the jazz and instrumental music while working. The catch for me (Nit-Picker Warning!) is that PANDORA is essentially an online funnel *to deliver consumers to the *record companies which means that the record companies control the design of it. So it's THEIR agenda - I'm spoon-fed products (artists and songs) the music marketers want to sell me.This fact makes PANDORA bit of a bait-and-switch. I get one song from the artist I likeand then I get a LOT of the SAME SONGS (that I DON'T like) over and over and over again, which drives me to the 'Skip' button frequently. I'm limited to skipping only a few songs per session (The disclaimer that pops up when I've exceeded my allotted number of 'skips' politely admits that this limitation is because of the agreement between PANDORA and the record companies)So instead of a refreshing and inspiring cross-section of juicy talent based on my "chosen" station, I get too many tired, over-played 'A' sides and way too much repetition of songs I don't want to hear. Because of these glitches, I play PANDORA less than I did at first.
My conclusion: "There is no free lunch!" If it's free, there's a catch and the catch here is that I basically have to baby-sit PANDORA with one finger on the 'skip' button (and "Don't play this song for a month!") and another finger on 'Create a New Station'.
I would rather pay a nominal subscription fee, have access to MORE VARIETY, and have more control over the way the thing operates. Glad I found it, though! ;-)

Glad to see that I wasn't the only user who begs to bring back the bookmark feature. (also would be nice to have the ability to select multiple tracks from the bookmark list to buy at one time).
I listen on a different PC than the one where my music is stored, and I like to bookmark when listening and then use the other PC to buy the songs rather than having to transfer them between PCs.
I use liking to train the stations to have more songs of that type, not the same as bookmarking where I might want to buy the songs later.

I like the new design of Pandora but the think the old version of Pandora worked waaaay better. I know its new and there will be improvements make along the way but right now it is frustration having to constantly reload the page because:
1. Pandora freezes and I can't change the station
2. The album art is not in sync with the music playing and it freezes
3. Pandora stops playing completely
4. Pandora doesn't load at all
5. The music is playing but the website will not let me change the song, pause it, like it or dislike it.
6. A whole lot of the independent artists are not available.
I really like Pandora because it is easy and for the most part has good mix of music but If things do not improve soon I will cancel subscription and find my music else where.

I love the new look. It would be cool if the song that was playing would show in the window banner. For example: If I was listening to Pandora on Firefox, it would say "Pandora Radio - Listen to Free Internet Radio, Find New Music - Mozilla Firefox" in the window banner. My suggestion would be to put the song that was playing in the window banner so I wouldn't have to click the Pandora tab to see what the name of the song was playing.

As a long time user, I LOVE this upgrade! Nice clean look and feel, less junk crowding the page. I love how if you change stations, it remembers the last song you listened to and starts right where it left off..cool new feature. Best part, NO LIMITED usage for free subscribers - THANK YOU!!

The list of things that have been taken *away* from the old, BETTER version of Pandora is growing. The latest? You can't say "I'm tired of this song" anymore.
Editing stations is also more difficult, requires more clicks. It used to be pretty simple if I remember correctly (seems so long ago at this point ::sigh::). Now, it seems, you have to go to "profile," then "stations," then click the particular station you want to edit...then good luck finding a particular song/artist from your "seeds" list if it's long. Good luck.
Why take away features? WHY?! Has the world gone MAD?! The lack of bookmarks is the worst. I have my OWN list of bookmarks that I have to type out myself now. Honestly whomever says the new Pandora is better are probably the same people who say George W. Bush did a really good job

As I said in an earlier comment, I like the new site. The old site had the text set so small I couldn't read it and there was no way to make it bigger. As for people having a problem with pausing and restarting, I'm not seeing it. I can be listening to Pandora, have to leave the office for a little while and I'll pause the player. I can be gone for hours and when I come back and press the play button it starts right where it left off and doesn't stop until I tell it to stop. I've not noticed any skipping either. So from my point of view, the new website is quite an improvement over the old one.

Two days after the release of the new site, I posted here that I had a couple of minor concerns and was grateful to Pandora for years of learning about new music. I didn't really understand what everyone was complaining about with skipping and poor sound quality. Now I get it, I can't make it 30 seconds without a song skipping like it's 1996.
I'm concerned with the lack of response from Pandora to the 500+ blog comments.
Many users like me probably just don't know what we need to do in order to take advantage of these changes. So tell us!

I also cannot listen to the new site. Before making these upgrades, it would be helpful if the companies did a better job of understanding who they would be losing if they did the upgrade.
I enjoyed listening to Pandora and now can't. Disappointed.
I get the same messages as the military people.

I miss the bookmark feature too, but I just realized you can add it to your amazon wishlist and save it that way.
Then when you're ready to get it, delete it off your wishlist and obtain it however you want.
Yeah, this is roundabout and annoying, but it's better than writing it down manually. You can even make a folder for music in your wishlist.
The only problem I've found with this is that some songs are only available if you buy the whole album, which makes it hard to remember what song you liked. Maybe this works better in itunes, but I refuse to get an itunes account.

All of your old bookmarks are still available -- simply go to "Profile," and then click on "Bookmarks." That will show you all of your old bookmarks -- it shows me the 1544 songs I b'marked.

I love Pandora, but I have had nothing but SLOOOOOWWWWNEESSSS from the new interface. Within 10 minutes, the website causes the flash plugin and Firefox to use 90% of my available page file use. It's unusable unless it is literally the only thing being used on the computer (which it's NOT in my case).

As I write this, there are already 500 comments to this post, so I dont know if anyone has already mentioned something on these lines:
I'd like the ability to create "lists" that combine two or more stations from the ones I created (for example I like to listen to my Jazz with my Folk, and my merenque with my other Spanish music stations. Having the canned "Shuffle options you provided is not sufficient for those of us with "complex" tastes, and constantly checking and unchecking boxes is not really the way to go. Please consider - thank you.
