Themed Stations for 2010 and New Year's Eve!

Dear Listeners:

We're excited to share with you some new themed stations we've just created that allow you to easily listen to the most popular songs of 2010. This look back across the country's popular tastes from this last year includes everything from chart-topping Pop Hits to Country, Alternative, Jazz, R&B songs, and many more.

And, in the spirit of literally ending the year on a high note , we also have a special New Year's Eve Party station that you can find among the new Themed stations.

We hope you'll check out the full selection at: http://www.pandora.com/genres and scroll down to 'Themed' for those stations. As always, feedback is most welcome.

Hope you enjoy...and thanks for listening!

It would have been even BETTER to be able to stream my Pandora account over my PS3!!!

Sony already has it on their Blu-Ray players as an app, why not the PS3? You'd open up an entirely new market for those of us that will not be buying a stand-alone blu-ray player, because we have the PS3 as our main home theater unit.

Please, please, please!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rings, MD

So glad you are finally offering genre and theme stations. I was one of your early subscribers and had suggested this a number of years ago. While listening to artist/song based play is just right at times, I felt I tended to miss many of the newer songs. Hence I was listening to Napster play-lists and considering subscription to Slacker...no need to now!

Tim, You Rock! All of you guys at Pandora are awesome, thank you for putting in all the hard work for our ear's pleasure. =) We are ultimately grateful! Happy New Year!!!

I'm a new member. Thanks so much for this progrm. Mary

Just downloaded Pandora yesterday and listened while in the waiting room while wife was getting some tests done. Was reading a recent Time Mag issue and ran across Tim's comments about being concerned about the internet replacing personal interaction; which happens to also be a concern of mine. Anyway, was listening to Jimi Hendrix and noticed the other folks in the waiting room were enjoying my rocking to the beat. Still new to Pandora but initial impressions are positive. Rock On!

Hi, Thanks for being out there. I use this site to play music for my daycare clients. I don't like to have to worry about objectionable music for kids. I didn't see a theme for "little kids" so I will be making my own playlist. I know it's subjective, but that is what I need.

Great job. Your labor of love has enhanced our lives. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing you at a conference some day.

Happy New Year!

I first learned of Pandora from a feature on public radio station WWNO. I made my initial visit to your site shortly thereafter. It wasn't until I discovered my fifteen year old daughter using Pandora that I spent some time listening and developing my stations. I'm so glad I did! Varied music and foods calm my soul and allow me to break free of life's constraints. Your station makes that so much easier!

Posted by: leslie at December 30, 2010 10:27 AM

Hi guys! Thanks for the great feedback.

@Dr. Rings -- Sorry that the Playstation 3 isn't officially supported to run Pandora yet. It's definitely on our radar.

@Dawn -- Good news! You can prevent Pandora from playing explicit content. More info here: http://blog.pandora.com/faq/contents/541.html

@Leslie, Dawn, Greg and everyone who has written with happy Pandora stories -- So glad to hear it. Thanks for listening!

I know this my be an "off" question, but regarding themed stations I was wondering if you've considered having classic radio shows that are "Suspense", "Crime", etc., programs. They are part of radio history but not directly music. Would you consider expanding in this area? I'd love to have such custom stations as heard on LIVE 365. Pandora would have an advantage since we could stream to it on our DVD/TV's. We received one for Christmas and are so happy with Pandora!

Posted by: LK at December 30, 2010 1:58 PM

I can't figure out how to find the theme stations....any advice?

Posted by: Paige at December 31, 2010 11:12 AM

I'm into my 2nd year with PandoraOne and I just wanted to comment on how much I love it. I listen on my computer, smartphone, and now home wifi with the ipod player I received for Christmas. I have listened enough for Pandora to know what I like and it is really cool. I've discovered new artists (and purchased CDs). Thank you all at Pandora.

You guys should get Wiz Khalifa's Flight School mixtape. Its free to download.

Howdy from the semi-wilds of ever disappearing Vermont. Question, when I use my desktop to start a themed station why does it look like it is not on my Blackberry? PLUS,when I try to type in the selected themed station on my B.B. it comes up with no match? Thanks for any and all help! Really like your station and am using it all night long. Hope I get my playlist refined to the point of where I like what I hear every time I listen on? Have a good one.

I love this. I am not keeping it to myself either. Share with the world. Wish I was an investor!!!

Tim, i LOVE Pandora. it never stops playing music i love. I really want the Desktop application, but i don't have the money =[

having to have my browser open takes up a lot of ram, and having the player on screen brings my CPU usage up to 50%. an actual player would be so nice. You've made one for Android and i assume iPhone, but the PC One costs money =[ please consider letting us have that. I would love to listen to Pandora while multitasking, but the requirements of having my browser open and such make that near impossible.

Consider my plea, and thanks for reading! <3 Pandora Rulez!

Posted by: Bunie at January 4, 2011 10:47 PM

Problem is your adult alternative station is only playing christmas music right now. It's January 5th. Aaaaaaaaaaaand here I come GROOVESHARK!

Posted by: Nick at January 5, 2011 1:02 AM

I loved, loved, loved the Christmas music in DECEMBER!! I listen to the Contemporary Christian station and don't have any Christmas songs with a "thumbs up", yet the vast majority of the songs played on that station are Christmas songs. Please make them stop!

Posted by: Kristen at January 5, 2011 5:51 AM

Love Pandora, but I listen to it at work...could really do without the inappropriate ads that I have to scramble to turn down (like the ad for No Strings Attached when they are screaming out their excitement about getting laid). It seems strange that you guys would have a non-work appropriate ad playing during the day. Anyway, just wanted to toss that out there.

Posted by: Marcy at January 6, 2011 9:58 AM

Hi, just wanted to thank Pandora for existing. It's awesome. One comment though: I was listening the other day to a "Basshunter" station (i.e. Techno/Trance music) when, out of nowhere, "Follow Me" by Uncle Kraker was played (Country music) !!!!! What was that about ?????????? Later on, it also played some U2... Now, that's nowhere close to Basshunter!!
Anyways, besides that, still an awesome radio! Thanks again!

hi I really like ur music I listen to it everyday ok well not everyday I would be a syco!!!!! lol

Posted by: Alexis Barndt at January 6, 2011 1:09 PM

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Pandora! I like completely different music from my husband, and we also have a 3 year old! My husband bought me the iTouch 4g & a great docking station for Christmas, and between his gifts and Pandora, we've got music in our home again! IT IS WONDERFUL! Switching from genres, creating our own mixes and even finding enjoyable toddler tunes is SO EASY and free means that it's here to stay in our budget conscious household. Thank you Tim and everyone at Pandora! You ROCK, or dance, or croon, or toddle... :) Any way you look at it, you've got 3 fans in New Hampshire, and I tell everyone I know about how wonderful it is!

New user and I'm loving it!

Posted by: judy parker at January 8, 2011 9:45 AM

Tim, we've loved everything about Pandora until tonight...

As I sit at 6:52 PM (not exactly an ungodly hour), eating dinner with my family which includes a 10-year old and 7-year old, an ad comes on Pandora. This wouldn't normally be a problem except that this is an ad for a new movie called "No Strings Attached" which, during it's promo on Pandora, mentions sex and having sex and the need for sex a multitude of times. Really? At this time of day when all ears are listening?

Posted by: Lisa at January 8, 2011 7:00 PM

just joined and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: debby at January 10, 2011 6:42 AM

@LK -- Thanks for the suggestion, but we are currently completely focused on music, and as such have no plans to include non-musical content on Pandora.

@Paige -- Under the music player on the main page (http://www.pandora.com), click on the lower left box that says Genre Stations. You can also access the Genre Stations with this link: http://www.pandora.com/#/genres

@raymond clifford -- Please ensure that you are using the same email address and Pandora password on your BlackBerry and on Pandora on the web. If you still have difficulty, write to pandora-support@pandora.com for timely assistance.

@Bunie -- While it's true that the Desktop App is only available to Pandora One subscribers, I'm not sure that it would solve your problem, as it can take up as much RAM as a browser would. I recommend listening on a phone or other device:
http://www.pandora.com/on-the-go
http://www.pandora.com/in-the-home

@ Everyone who has reported Holiday music playing when it shouldn't -- During the Holiday season, many of our genre stations that track current hits also add in Holiday songs, just as broadcast radio would. It seems that a few of these stations have taken longer than others to "reset" after the end of the Holiday season. We've taken steps to fix this, and the problem will be resolved very soon. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Posted by: Ryan, Pandora Support at January 10, 2011 5:14 PM

I do enjoy listing to the music. I love the Blues and so for have found many tunes I like.
I questions is will you please not share my email address to companies that I will spam?

Posted by: Carla Tanner at January 11, 2011 12:31 PM

I am about to start using the genre feature. I'm an 'old school' type of person, but I really would like to familiarize myself with contemporary artists. I'm going to subscribe to Pandora One next month. I loved my trial with the desktop app.

Happy 1/11/11 everyone ^_^

Posted by: Tashina at January 11, 2011 12:43 PM

You are so much better than Slacker Radio-you are my favorite app. on my blackberry. I exercise to your music every night

Posted by: gary steuart at January 11, 2011 12:47 PM

I really love Pandora but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider screening ads for work-appropriate content. These "No Strings Attached" ads that scream "Why can't we just have sex?????" are really awkward when colleagues walk by or stop by my office.

Posted by: TK at January 12, 2011 7:32 AM

I agree with the above posters about the inappropriate ad on Pandora for the movie "No Strings Attached". I play this at work and I have to be right at my computer to mute it when it comes on. I can't even play Pandora at home because of the ad....little ears! It seems like it is the only ad on Pandora nowadays.

Posted by: Ashley at January 12, 2011 8:41 AM

Jus startd using your system n wantd to tell u that its the bomb best radio I ever had keep up the good work

Posted by: Chico at January 12, 2011 10:49 AM

I'm also complaining about the "No Strings Attached" ad... it is so loud and inappropriate--and I'm at work when I'm listening! It is making things awkward for me at the office. Please ditch the ad.

Posted by: Madison at January 14, 2011 10:26 AM

Please fix the Pandora Boxee app. It seems like almost every time it is launched Pandora asks for an activation code (via a separate computer), even though it has already been activated numerous times. This makes the Boxee app almost useless and is incredibly annoying. Please fix ASAP, many people on the boxee forums are almost frustrated with this issue.

Posted by: inboulder at January 16, 2011 3:19 PM

Dear Tim,

I love Pandora. However, over the past two weeks I have felt very frustrated by the repeated playing of the ad for the movie, 'No Strings Attached'. Not only does the picture for the movie take up the entire background of my music screen, every 'commerical break' features a clip from the movie discussing casual sex. Our society is currently reaping many of the negative benefits of casual sex and it does not seem like a wise idea to continue encouraging a culture of promiscuity. Your station has a great reputation, provides an invaluable service, and should use it's position of influence wisely to encourage behaviors that will help our society flourish.

thanks pandora for ruining something that started out great. More and more ads, now i have an add covering the player and the so called "close" button for the pop out ad doesn't do anything... no thank you i don't want to drive a ford and i'm tired of the crap song that i can't hit next on. Stop being greedy you never needed an ad every two songs, or whenever i change the station, and you certainly never had ads covering the player this is getting old and if you want to stick around with all these new music sights popping up using your same idea i would suggest you seriously rethink this bull, i understand the need to advertise and make money but come on it's toooooo much now.

Where, (if any where) is the option for filtering out bad language when using an Ipod touch? It is very difficult to have to listen to foul language on an Ipod, but be able to filter it out when I login to my internet browser account. Hope this makes sense, and if it isn't a feature on the Pandora App, please make it one!
