Say Hi :: Concert Videos :: Vol. 11
Care to learn a bit of music shorthand? Try "RIYL" on for size.
That acronym is "Recommended If You Like," and when it comes to this week's band, Say Hi, I would suggest that their four Pandora live videos are RIYL Weezer, Grandaddy, Imperial Teen or Sebadoh.
Say Hi is essentially the brainchild of Eric Elbogen (pictured in full bunniness here), and largely a home-recorded endeavor. He released his first four albums as "Say Hi To Your Mom," and then last year moved to Seattle and shortened the band's name. Live, it's a different story, though -- Say Hi is a four-piece, and the other three players breathe lots of life into Elbogen's scruffy, warm-hearted indie rock.

Hi there -- Hey, I'm one of your fans, I listen mainly to world, world fusion and folk, some big band, some transcendental voices, and medieval choral music. And I'm wondering something. Are you in a sole agreement with your song-purchase partners or could you expand options for listeners? I would LOVE to have the option of purchasing from emusic.com, and I've often thought you would work sooooo well together. They have a HUGE collection of eclectic and independent music and I'm a subscriber. The nice thing is that purchased downloads, with rights granted by the artists and/or song owners, are straight .mp3s, no fuddly coding. Lots of artists actually put their music on emusic to reach listeners. They obviously don't have the "latest hits" from big corporate producers but they have EVERYTHING ELSE. So great.
Anyway, I was wondering if you could expand purchasing options to include emusic.com in addition to Amazon and iTunes. Would that be possible?
Check emusic.com out. See if you like their collection.
Thanks!

I haven't been able to skip songs on any of my stations for a month now.

Is there any way for the stations that are being programmed to "advertise" their whereabouts on other systems in Pandora's many outlets. I'm particularly interested in reaching the younger listeners and letting them have an earful of the good music their parents always talk about. If this is possible I think the station operator, would of necessity, have to pick th music himself.

I am a fan of Pandora but I do not like the way it shuts the music down after a certain time. I listen to other internet radio stations who play 24 hrs. a day. this is what I would like from Pandora!

Hey Pandora-
I agree with your RIYL for Say Hi. I might also add Death Cab, John Vanderslice, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
Ciao.

Um, is that guy a furrie?
Posted by: Eden at February 1, 2009 06:46 PM
@Eden -- Hmm. Is Eric a furrie? That I don't know. Here's his site -- I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you asked him: http://www.sayhitoyourmom.com/
@MLBee -- Oh yeah! Especially Death Cab. Good calls on all three.
@Kevin Scott -- Pandora does play music 24 hours a day. It's just that, since it costs us money to play music, we need to make sure that you're there and listening. If we play to an empty room, we lose lots more money. Anyway, that's why we do those "are you still there?" queries. Just want to make the tap wasn't left running.
@Jack Simon -- I recommend working on your personal profile to meet other listeners. Write them messages, share your stations with friends. That's the way to promote a station you have created.
@Imagine Reason -- I'm going to put you in touch with our tech support (pandora-support@pandora.com) to see why this might be happening for you. Be on the lookout for an email.
@Maya -- I will send your suggestion to our business development people. Thanks for the recommendation!

I haven't been able to get into pandora from my sprint phone for a week now. And i really love it! help!

Hi -- I know that I have weird tastes, tho as a whole Pandora has done a great job for me with such items as flamenco, fado and some east Indian music (though I couldn't figure out any way to segue into Bollywood stuff). However, I do have one question -- why, for heavens sake, are you people absolutely PUSHING boccherini at me on my strings radio; he's OK & I wouldn't do thumbs down, except that, as I said, Pandora keeps PUSHING his music at me...
Posted by: GrannyJ at February 3, 2009 09:13 PM
.Why did Pandora stop working on my phone?
Posted by: Jane at February 4, 2009 08:19 AM
What is the problem with the site today? There's no error message, but there's also no options to sign in or play music.

Hi, Jane, hi, Lauren,
I'm getting the good people who answer 'pandora-support@pandora.com' to respond to you with your technical issues.
Hi, GrannyJ,
Cool! Glad that our flamenco, fado, and east Indian stations have been working for you. If you ever want to put Boccherini to "sleep" (not banish, just rest for awhile), here's how to do it:

Pandora should promote herself at concerts. Fox Theater comes to mind. Where are you guys, anyways? I live right by 12th Street BART and I still don't know where you are at! :) Into Social Distortion? Sure wish I could score some tickets, maybe as a representative of Pandora? Work-trade? Will work for music. :) Laters...;)

Pandora is the best thing to happen since sliced bread

Thanks, Motivational!
Hi Mark -- Pandora is really entirely promoted by word-of-mouth at this point. We are right around the corner from the gorgeous Fox Theater, at 22nd and Webster. Did you check out Social D on opening night?

Hi
Keep adding the sponsorship ads.
IT WILL KILL YOUR BUSINESS.
If you don't believe me .. keep doing it.
I know what I'm talking about. Don't believe me.

this is really important to me as i dont want to have to reprogram about 100 groups back into the station i created on pandora a couple of weeks ago i named dixie dregs which had a lot of excellent jazz fusion groups on it. for some reason its not showing up on my site on pandora anymore. what happened to it. my code word is rock777 on your web site and my email is markjlohmar@yahoo.com can you look and see whats going on because i sure dont want to have to reprogram all those groups back in. i just now started a new station a minute ago with the same name but only put dixie dregs into it so far. how about finding my old dixie dregs station and puttting it back on line*** thanks and peace man.

ps i may have opened up more than one pandora site by accident also after the initial one so you may have to do some checking on that too in order for me to get back my original dixie dregs station.

Hi, Mark,
I forwarded your request to our support staff -- pandora-support@pandora.com -- and they will be contacting you directly to figure out what may have happened to your Dixie Dregs station, and to see if they can recover it for you.
Thanks, and please stay tuned.
In general, if you modify an artist-based station, you may want to alter the name of the station to keep it distinct from your other stations. If you have 100+ groups along with Dixie Dregs on a station, it might help to not name it Dixie Dregs. (That said, that should never be the cause of a station disappearing.)
