Fred Smith :: Concert Videos :: Vol. 6

Fred SmithWhile some media types might be on holiday break, sitting beachside and sipping coladas through spiraling neon straws, we here at Pandora will sit in the snow and continue to bring you fresh videos and new music. Much like the USPS, neither rain nor sleet and so on. Happy to do it.

New this week, the dirty-minded diplomat Fred Smith brings his sharp wit and acoustic guitar with him from Australia (pictured at left). Two songs are on his own:

"Seven Ways"

"American Guitar"

while one song --

"Texas"

features harmonies by the L.A. songwriter Alissa Moreno.

And if you find yourself on Twitter, please stop by and say hello.

Good tidings,
Kevin

Hi,
Happy Holidays. I Wanted to say that I really appreciate your service. I use pandora a lot, but don't care about the ads or the time out so there's nothing about subscribing that really calls to me, pluse, I don't have $36 bucks on me... Still, I wanted to send over $10 bucks via paypal just to show my appreciation for your service but you don't appear to have a donation/appreciation button anywhere. Can you add one, or failing that, shoot me a paypal link for pandora?

Kevin, I was going to send this note a bit more privately via E-mail, but thought better of it. If I send this as blog it will give your listeners an opportunity to learn that the staff at Pandora does pay attention to the correspondence you receive. I want to thank you for the effort extended by your organization in accepting Johnny Costa as worthy of being played on the air. I'm waiting in breathless anticipation for the reception of his music by your jazz in any form audience. I hope if they write you after hearing his work they will be just as enthused as I was those many years ago when I first heard him. Thanks again, Jack Simon

Some of us "media types" in Washington DC are still working - actually to see if there's any news at Pandora. I can't think of a single reporter who makes enough to be sipping coladas on any beach except the toxic shores of the Potomac.

Posted by: Greg at December 29, 2008 03:06 PM

Hey Greg! Underpaid and under-vacationed reporters not included in that, certainly. Well, cheers to the shores of the Potomac, toxic or not. An early happy new year to you too.

Hi Jack -- You're quite welcome, and good to hear from you.

Sergio -- That's kind of you to offer. I will check and get back to you on that. A Happy New Year to you as well (and to everybody).

What are you doing for New Year's? :) Nothing personal, just my opinion, but twitter is a way immature technology, unlike Pandora®. Good for Pandora®, bad for twitter. Maybe, if one could integrate a "twitter"-like feature into Pandora®. Like develop a social networking app that runs OFF Pandora®? :) Just an idea....® :)®

Dear Sir's

I love your new "RADIO" consept. I get to choos the type of "MUSIC" I want uninteruped.
The only problem I have is that I can't be at the computer all the time, and when I'm doing something else it shuts down.
Is there any answer for this?

Wow!! This is a fantastic post where visitor may find some important information on music.

Posted by: palashmondal at December 31, 2008 02:15 PM

If Don Lusher is now fronting the Ted Heath band are there any recordings available that I may add to one of my stations. Also, please fill me in on the Doc Severinson band. What is on tap from them?

Just got on board last night through a recommendation from a friend. Incredible!! I was going to be a free parasite but after 3 hours of great High quality music I subscribed. Pandora has become my site of choice and I'm glad to support it. Great job folks!!

How do I remove the Christmas songs from "my station" now that the holidays are over?

Posted by: Nancy at January 5, 2009 11:04 AM

@JohnGray -- since we pay every artist for every song we play, plus cover streaming costs for each song we deliver, we can't afford to have this for free if people are just leaving it on while not at their computers... hence that timeout that happens. So, just stop in, say hey, let us know you're still there listening, and the music will continue -- otherwise it's like leaving the tap on.

@Jack Simon -- hmm, I personally don't know what the Doc Severinsen Band is up to recently, nor of the Ted Heath band with Don Lusher singing. Anybody else happen to know? In the meantime, some artist pages for you to explore and make stations from:
http://www.pandora.com/music/artist/don+lusher+big+band
http://www.pandora.com/music/artist/doc+severinsen
http://www.pandora.com/music/artist/ted+heath

@Geof -- thanks for subscribing, eh! and welcome aboard. let us know what you think as you go.

@Ferry -- thank you as well.

@Nancy -- Here's how to edit your station. You'll want to delete any artist or song seeds that are Christmas-related:

Just wanted to say kudos to you, I love Pandora. I have one suggestion for you, if your thinking of any improvements. I would love the option of replaying a song if I would want to. I plan on subscribing when I get my raise this year. Thanks again!

Posted by: Cathy at January 6, 2009 08:19 AM

I find this site and your project very interesting. I was raised by two musicians and was taught to appreciate music in its rawest form. When I stumbled across this site, it was love at first sight. I tried to beat it and make it play stuff I don't like but it plays things I do like. It is almost as if you are the eye doctor asking which lens looks better..... when you know very well which one I am going to pick even before I do. Right now I am listening to Glass Palace by Jens Gad, without your site I would never have heard this great song and artist. Job well done! Keep it up!

If the likes of Horace Heidt, Jan Savitt,Sammy Kaye and their cousins are acceptable for a musical channel do I need permission to check which of those stations, which I presently possess, would be the most likely outlet for their music. Please exclude Big Band Swing.

Posted by: Jack Simon at January 7, 2009 10:27 AM

Thanks, guys!

Cathy -- Song replay isn't something we can do, as that's forbidden for radio services under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (the legislation that allows us to operate). If certain songs really appeal, I recommend bookmarking those; you can then purchase a whole list of bookmarked songs at once -- at the end of a listening day, perhaps.

Jack -- Thanks for listening. I'm not sure what you're asking, though. Do you need permission? No, you can check at will, no need to ask for permission. What exactly are you trying to do?

Posted by: Kevin Seal at January 12, 2009 03:37 PM

I love Pandora! I agree however with the suggestions to be able to replay a song, or being able to listen while browsing the internet like itunes. I don't know how that would work but you guys are the geniuses right? Anyway thanks so much for making life a little more interesting. i've never been introduced to so many new sounds and artists!
