Fresh from our Concert Series: Laura Reed & Deep Pocket and Josh Fix

Tift MerrittThe response we've gotten to our new Concert Series has been intense and really positive. Thanks for watching our daily song updates, and for letting us know who you want to see on our stage.

We have two new shows in the on-deck circle for you.... first up, straight out of Atlanta, four songs by the neo-soul big band Laura Reed & Deep Pocket:

"Well"

"Why Have A Frown"

"Don't Go" (my personal favorite)

"Forces At Play."

That's Laura and part of the crew, pictured at left.

Enjoy!
Kevin

Drop the Vista audio ads.

Would somebody out there help an old tech-challenged retired guy? Just learned about Pandora yesterday. It's way beyond wonderful! But how can I hear it on my car radio??? (Okay, if you're thinking, "Is he really THAT tech-challenged?" - Well, this is the very first time I've ever used a blog!) Thanks, Fred ;-)

Posted by: Fred at December 12, 2008 09:08 AM

Hi, Fred,

This may sound like an odd question given that you've identified yourself as tech-challenged, but... any chance that you use an iPhone? Or another phone that might be able to access Pandora, such as these from AT&T and Sprint?
http://www.pandora.com/on-the-go

If so, it works great to just plug in a 1/8" adapter to your phone (just a few bucks at RadioShack) and go into your car stereo.

For now, that's really the best way to get Pandora in your car. Just email pandora-support@pandora.com with other questions if you have any. Thanks!

Completely off topic, but what's with the audible advertising? Nothing like some random guy's voice at twice the normal volume selling me coupons in between songs to ruin a vibe. Ugh. I hope you Pandoraers are making truck loads of money for that.

I phone is great... How about something for T-mobile google phone??? Anything for T-mobile???

Posted by: chemiker at December 13, 2008 10:43 AM

Just heard Pandora's new ads. Bye bye Pandora. Won't be back. If I want to hear ads, I'll turn on the radio.

Posted by: Richard Bell at December 14, 2008 05:36 PM

Hi, guys -

@Richard Bell, Sorry to hear that you feel that way. Our audio ads at this point occur very rarely -- once an hour at most -- and yes, we do rely on advertising money to pay the recording artists, to cover our streaming costs, and more.

@Bleeding Ears, Thanks for understanding, and hopefully the occasional brief audio ad doesn't destroy the vibe too much for you.

There is another option, if you want to see no advertising at all, either audio, video or graphical -- you are always welcome to become a paid pandora subscriber for $36/year. For about ten cents a day you can remove advertising of all kinds from your Pandora experience. There is more information on the subscription program here: http://blog.pandora.com/faq/#489

Take care, thanks for understanding that is does take money to keep this ship afloat, and again, thanks for listening.

Another way to get Pandora on your car radio is if your car radio supports bluetooth you can use that (provided you have a phone that Pandora supports). I do that with SomaFM and other online radio stations. I connect my phone to my headunit(another name for car radio) using bluetooth, then I load the web radio station and it comes out over my speakers.

WORST PICTURE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Nicole at December 15, 2008 04:13 PM

I am LUVIN Pandora! I share my stations with everyone I know...
Although I have explored (and still tune into) many other pandora stations,
I really like wordless music, Hip-hop, fuzion, reggae, ska, metal, everthing wordless!
The genre is still new to me
If anyone has any tips how to find more, I would love to hear them!
Peace, Wayne

Hey guys this is Jordon from Sprint Corporate just windering why pandora is available on all of our out dated phones that we dont carry any more but not on our new best selling devices, (ie) the htc touch diamond, touch pro, treo 800w etc... Pandora is available on our phones that are not even internet capable??? How does that work??? Its just odd that we can sell a free phone and it will support pandora, but our $599.99 pda and smart phones for advanced users (the ones who would actually use the application) with windows mobile are not supported. the windows mobile phones you do offer it on we have discontinued (ie) motorola Q.. feel free to email me if you need a device list of popular phones we are offering for the new year...

Is Pandora not going to post about the latest (but pretty meager) support for Windows Mobile? Or is the team still too busy blogging about Apple this, iPhone that, etc.?

How hard is it to get Pandora on WinMo? You might as well support the more popular phones, especially the HTC ones...

Posted by: Quikboy at December 16, 2008 04:51 PM

why can't i hear any metallica on my metallica station? i've heard nirvana, pantera, godsmack, tool, and disturbed repeats, long before i hear a decent metallica song!
i am not abusive just asking a question!

Posted by: ragan at December 17, 2008 05:52 PM

@Jordon -- I will have an answer for you soon. That's a question that our business development team is much more qualified to answer.

@Ragan -- Are you hearing no Metallica at all, or just not the particular Metallica that you want? If it's the latter, I recommend seeding a station with just a single Metallica song or two, since there's such a wide variety across their lengthy career.

@Quikboy -- Good timing! Tom just posted last night about it. Pandora has arrived on Windows Mobile. More information in his post.

Many thanks for the wonderful project!

GREAT JOB

Kevin,

First off thanks for the update on choices and how to select and choose the music you most like listening to. I like a little bit of everything so I've established 3 different stations which I can select depending upon my mood.

On another note I've been experiencing difficulties of late with the music station I've established. There instances when the music will suddently stop right after it starts a new song or sometimes the same thing happens in the middle, either way the music stops and the only way I can get is started again is to advance to another song. Unfortunately there is a limited number of times that the system will allow you to do this. What do I need to do to start the music again?

Couldn't find the answer in frequently asked questions.

Thanks... Von <

I would love to see Pandora available on a portable media player other than a cell phone. I would be willing to pay a minimal monthly subscription for the service it was available such as the Slacker Media Player.

I've heard Pandora at my girlfriends and it's great so I thought I'd try. I registered and everything, but I'm not getting any sound. I pressed the little play button too. I know it's not my computer because when I go on myspace or a local radio station I can hear the music there. Can anyone help me?
