PREMIERE! Pandora's Concert Series with Tift Merritt
I can't overstate how excited I am that this is out there in public now: Our very first footage of live music performance on Pandora.
This is just the beginning of the Pandora Concert Series, in which we will bring you video of great performers singing and playing, and talking about the creative process behind their songs.
We also couldn't be happier that our first guest artist is Tift Merritt. Esquire magazine voted her "Best Female Voice" this year, and you will soon hear why. She manages to fold in elements of folk and classic soul while making them all her own, with a distinctive tone and a passionate delivery.
With each week's featured artist, we will feature four songs from this North Carolinian. First:
"Good Hearted Man," performed live at Pandora. Check back tomorrow and in the days after, and we will have more songs posted.
(Update... here are:
"I Know What I'm Looking For Now"
"Mille Tendresses", from that same concert.)
Enjoy!

I have enjoyed your music for the most part of the day. I live in NW Tennessee. Because of my age I can remember the 50's and 60's to which I am very partial to. Your selections are wonderful.I am a retired Vietnam Veteran and spend most of my time in front of a computer writing poetry. Your music entertains me beyond the normal music sites. I will be around for awhile to enjoy your site to it's maximum potential. I have written five hundred poems within the last four years and have yet to find a reliable agent or publisher. If you have any suggestions for me it would be appreciated.
Thank you so much.

My aunt told me about Pandora. I googled it and I love it. I work from home in real estate and I am on my computer all day, I love music but hate the local radio because of ads and I have to hear the same song I hate over and over again. Not with Pandora. This site is a music lovers dream!!!! Thanks.

Hi, Andrew: I contacted tech support (pandora-support@pandora) to see what your connection problem might be.
Christi, Tracker, Chandler, and everybody else: Thanks, guys! Really great to hear -- thanks for listening, and let us know if there's anything you want to see/hear on here that you're not finding.

Thanks for making Tift Merritt your first artist in this series. Her superfans at www.tiftmerritt.net have been stoked.
Anyone who enjoyed these clips should send Tift some good vibes later this month as she records a live album inside an English church.
Thanks again, Pandora people!

Hi. I really enjoy Pandora and am a paying user. I have some questions about tweaking the UI for a more interesting listening experience.
Is there anybody at Pandora to whom I can talk, via email?
Thanks.

I'd like Pandora more if it quit playing the same songs over and over. It's like I've painted myself into a corner giving thumbs up to songs. It just plays them over and over.

@ Ryan -
Sure, you can email pandora-support@pandora.com any time with suggestions, feedback, and questions.

Sorry about that! Here's a couple things you can do:
1. Add more seeds to your station. This will broaden the playlist.
2. If you've thumbs upped lots of songs, edit your station and remove some of those thumbs. Thumbs upped songs play more often than non-thumbs upped songs, which can lead to repetitiveness.
3. You can put any song to "sleep" for 30 days. So if you're tired of a song, even a song you like, just click on the menu and choose the option to put that song on the shelf for a month.
4. You can always QuickMix two or more stations together if you're bored with one station.
I hope that helps!

Lucia, thanks for the info. I don't know if you guys have thought about doing this, but the nerd in me would love to see how the "genome" is used on a station. What categories are being weighted, how decisions are getting made.

This is a wonderful app for the iPhone. While I probably won't use it in this mannor too often... tonight I put my iPhone in the middle of our kitchen table, and then asked Pandora for some Chopin. Thought I'd have some nice dinner music. Ten seconds later, my wife and I were treated to some great classical music during dinner. Even my wife was very impressed!
Way to go, Pandora.

Hi, Chief Dan George -- We have thought about opening up the Music Genome Project and revealing more about the gene matches making each recommendation happen. For now, though, we really just want to make the Pandora player as easy and clean as possible. Stay tuned, and in coming years your tuner might start showing more of how the genome works.
Hi, Slapshot -- CHOPIN! Perfect music for dinner. I'm glad it worked for you. Also happy to hear your wife was impressed.
