A great band packed to the brim with musical talent.

Pandora has a new background today of a shushing man. It does not appear to be an advertisement. What is this?

Posted by: Neal at December 1, 2008 04:32 PM

DJ Austin -- glad you like them! Agreed, those guys have copious talent.

Neal -- that shushing man is Elvis Costello, and that ad is for his new series on the Sundance Channel, "Spectacle." I just his interview with Elton John on there last night. It's a pretty great show, at least so far.

I just SAW his interview with Elton John, that is.

for the last month Pandora keeps going off, and then on again after about 10 minutes. My IT manager checked my computer and said everything was OK on my end. I enjoy Pandora A LOT, but it is very annoying to have it off and then on, etc.

Please let me know if I am the only one with this problem.
Thank you for expediting this problem.

Sorry about that, Karen!

Could someone on your screening committee please advise me as to the fate of my request for your consideration of the late Johnny Costa to the list of musicians to have their work played on Pandora . Although I have acted in the capacity of a listener who admires genius I would take his rejection sadly, but I would accept it. Please let me know what the outcome was. It's been over two months since I was informed by "Mike" that a decision would be forthcoming. Any input from your staff would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Jack,

I'll check and report back. Stay tuned.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, at your suggestion I've stayed tuned since the 10th and I'm losing sleep. Lucky for me you didn't say hang in there or my thumbs would be coming off. Mike sent me a note, but it was rather inconclusive. So please let me know what the committee decided.By the way, i've been listening to one of "My Stations", Big Band /Swing. I don't know who is picking the supplemental music, but he thinks like me. I would make one suggestion. some of the tunes should be moved to other available stations since they don't fit the Big Band format. Can I have an E-mail contact to discuss it? Thanks for whatever you can do JACK

I'm trying to get the feeling that Pandora might have about creating a station that features small instrumental combos similar to Garner and Shearing, but necessarily their styles . Could it be done?

Posted by: Jack Simon at December 19, 2008 04:36 PM

Hi, Jack,

I responded to your first question directly over email (and yes, we did take your suggestion), but as for the second, I would recommend using a single song as a station seed. If you choose a George Shearing song with a small instrumental combo as the seed, chances are strong that the station will hem more closely to that.

If you were to just use "George Shearing," you would instead get a lot of solo piano music, which he did a lot of (along with the small combos).

THIS STATION CONTINUES TO ROCK!!!!! 24-7 thank you ALL!!!!!

Posted by: RICHARD SOSKIN at December 19, 2008 07:09 PM

Now that Johnny Costa has been approved to be added to the Pandora library of artists would it be possible for me to add him to my list of seeded artists for one my stations in the near future?

Does this mean that Pandora is now available on the new blackberry storm through verizon? If not whan will it be available? I want to buy this phone but I'm not going to until I know I get Pandora

Just wanted you to know that I LOVE your site. I would subscribe to the mobile if it was more affordable. I think $5 a month is reasonable.

Now that Costa has been accepted may I start playing is music in the immediate future? I don't know if it's legally permissible but I have his two recorded recorded CDs in my computer library. I also have an album in which he played as a part of a piano quartet. If it will help you, in any way, please let me know what I can do to Johnny started.

Hi, Jack,
We are buying those Johnny Costa CDs and adding them to the Genome, but it is a lengthy process that takes place before his songs can appear on your stations. It goes something like this once we buy an artist's albums:

- The order is shipped to us, and we stock the new CD
- We rip the audio, collect metadata
- Give it to the analysts
- The analysts choose songs to investigate, and answer several hundred questions about each song
- That information is added to the Music Genome
- The servers update, bringing that new information out to the individual stations

So stay tuned -- we are adding him, but his music won't appear overnight.

Thanks again for listening, and have a wonderful end of the year. Take care, Jack.

Kevin
