Great service and website, plus my vote is to remove the disgusting ad of Obama on the homepage. I look forward to this site for a source of relaxation and good music, not a biased political statement. If I want that, I just visit MSNBC.

how in the wor;d do you set pandora as your homepage on your computer when you pop up the internet? you know, when you click on interent, it automatically pops up. so how??

Hey Tim

This has nothing to do with the blog.

But I just want to let you know I have been listening to Pandora for years. I love the station and have had no complaints... up until now.

For some reason, every so often a song will cut off before it's over. I just recently noticed this problem.

Is there something wrong with the server?

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy listening here. I have appreciated the tasteful ads. Please don't ever succumb to "singles" ads!! Keep them family-friendly and professional and we'll keep listening! Thanks!

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Trevor, I appreciate your feedback and I'm glad you're enjoying the music! Sorry the Obama ad offended you. We were in touch with both sides of the political campaign, but so far McCain's camp has not decided to advertise on Pandora.

As Pandora is an ad-supported business, we have to sell ad-space or we will no longer exist. We certainly do weigh the impact of ads carefully, and do our best not to offend our listeners.

Please keep in mind that if you are interested in seeing no ads whatsoever on Pandora, you can subscribe to a paid, ad-free account for $36 a year. http://blog.pandora.com/faq/#489

We work very hard to deliver the best music discovery experience possible, and we hope you will continue to listen and enjoy Pandora.

Summer - You can set Pandora as your "home page" by clicking on "tools" at the top of your browser, and then selecting "options." There's a spot in there to designate which page your browser opens when you first pop open the internet. (if you need some help with this, feel free to email pandora-support@pandora.com

Johnny - I'll have support contact you!

Kerrie - Thanks for the feedback!

I have a few clarifications I am seeking.

From the reading I have done in the FAQ's and the blog, I understand how the Artist and Song seeds affect the songs selected for play on a given station.

I tested this by selecting an artist and then rejecting everything that stretched the limits at all. The result was a station that played seven to ten songs and then stopped. It would start again after three hours. The selected artist has only four songs in Pandora and It never played all four of those, or four songs by any of the remaining artists in the selection. The most was three. Is there ever a case when four songs are played in a three hour period?

Another question I have relates to a thumbs up choice. I understand a thumbs up will result in the next several songs being selected based on the attributes of that action. I wonder, do the previous thumbs up songs also continue to affect future song selection, hours or days into the future? If so, how does one narrow down the number of songs being fed into the station? A good example might be a station playing bubble gum pop like White Plains, Jigsaw and Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods; then a song by Boston is given a thumbs up. What is the long term affect of that?

I also wonder how decisions are made about what to analyze and include? Allowing for the broad range of musical tastes there are out there, I have still been surprised to see some albums having eight of ten songs analyzed, as compared to two of the artists I looked at, one with one album and only two songs analyzed, the other with two albums and only six analyzed. At any rate that seems pretty low, for those two anyway. Can you shed light on this for me?

Another item to note, over the past day or two a Blue Shield advertisement would pop up when a station was loaded. That, along with the Jack in the Box Pita advertisement (the coupon of which I printed), are both excellent ways to post that necessity in Pandora. You should be aware the Blue Shield advertisement did not appear long enough for one to click on the button to link to their website (not that I want these things to last longer, but the bills need to be paid!). I'm sure you know that was the second half of the image to appear, and it pretty much did so as a flash, while the first was there long enough for one to read it.

Thanks for your time and attention in responding to my inquiry.

Hey Brian -

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Yes indeed, all thumbs ups affect your station for hours and days and months into the future. Until you change the feedback, that feedback will affect how your playlists are created.
We do have legal limits on how many songs by any given artist are played on a station; barring errors, you should never hear more than 4 songs from one artist in a 3-hr period.

The best way to "prune" a station or to limit the playlist is to thumbs down songs that you don't feel fit into the mix you're creating.

Our musicians decide which songs to analyze (based in part on the popularity and quality of the songs), and our music curator decides which albums to add to the collection. You can always email suggest-music@pandora.com with your suggestions!

Thanks again for the feedback. If you have further suggestions, requests or questions, please feel free to email pandora-support@pandora.com

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!! I depend on music to get through a very long work day trapped in an office with no way or time to find new music. I am tired of listening to the same thing on my ipod, so finding this site is more than just recreational, it is necessary. THANK YOU.
