More Studio Stories, and some Dissonance
When we were last in Atlanta at Tree Sound, we checked out
how the studio has reduced its carbon footprint to zero,
and saw how this space-age recording facility champions its "ecophonic" style and design.
We've returned for two more episodes at Tree.
First, we meet James "Groove" Chambers,
a producer of great R&B and hip hop records who built his reputation working with the Nappy Roots.
Then, this week, we hear more about Atlanta's laidback and cooperative music community,
and hear how that supportive approach has shaped the great records that have come out of that city in the last few years.
There's also a new episode of "The Musicology Show,"
all about consonance and dissonance in classical music.
Russell Johnson lays out a bit of the history of modern dissonance, from Renaissance to Baroque to Classical to Romantic and all the way into contemporary atonality. The page has sound samples from these different eras as well.
As Edgard Varese once said, "The modern-day composer refuses to die."
Amen to that,
Kevin

So I only spent about 2 minutes looking for a place to put this and I realize it's probably not the best place for it, but here goes. Being a movie buff as well as a music lover, and I think that if you could break down and direct peoples choices of movies as well as you do music then you might be able to increase people's love of cinema as much as you have increased my, and I'm assuming many others, appreciation for music.
-my two cents

I like the web site with one exception. When I select an album, it might play (1) song selected at random when there are other songs I might have wanted to hear in particular. There is no way to remain on the album/or select the particular song I might want to hear. I think that could be an improvement you all can work on. Thanks!

Why is there no discussion about the current critical state of Pandora?
See:

"Giant of Internet Radio Nears Its "Last Stand"
What's the status.
None of us want to see Pandora disappear!

@Richard,
No status change for right now... essentially the same situation we've been in for some time now.
But thanks a lot for your great support. Sit tight for now. You can be sure that if/when we need our listeners’ help we’ll definitely let you know.
Thanks again – it means a lot to us. Stay tuned.
@Kevin,
What you're describing is really more of an on-demand music service, which isn't what we do. We're a free radio service, and as such, we can't play exactly what you request at the exact time you request it.
@Jon M,
I've heard rumors of a Film Genome Project in the works, but we aren't involved with one... we're all music geeks, really, not movie aficianados. I would love to see such a site, though.

do you have any music by "florida mass choir"? I've been trying to find anything that they sung!! Help me, please!! Anyone?

I love your service and use it on both my iphone and work computer. I have even evangelized it to others, creating at least 5 new users. Is there anything that us users can do en masse (clicking on ads, etc) that would stem the losses caused by this new rate increase, or is it simply a matter of viability perception by your investors? Surely there must be a revenue model that could be "tacked on" that would keep the essential functionality available to the public...
Any updates are welcome, thanks

Florida Mass Choir... I'm not finding any on here, but will add it to the suggestions. Any time you have an artist you'd like to hear that we don't have, just send an email to suggest-music@pandora.com
We do have several Mass Choirs, though:

Stay tuned. There's a lot that users can do to help us (visiting our sponsors is a great one for now, thanks), and we will let you know when we have updates and plans for movement as a group. Thanks so much for your support, and for listening. We will keep you posted.
