Import Pandora to your Facebook Mini-Feed
The fine engineers over at Facebook have done something pretty neat. You can now "import" all your Pandora activity (station creation, bookmarked songs and artists) into your Facebook news feed.
Setting it up couldn't be simpler -- just visit your Facebook profile page and click the "import" link at the top of the Mini-Feed section, select Pandora, enter the email address you used when you registered with Pandora and Facebook will fetch your most recent station creations as well as your recent bookmarks and add them to your mini-feed. Better still, from that point on, any time you create a station or bookmark something on Pandora those events will automatically be added to your mini-feed also. It's a great way to keep your Facebook friends up to date on your latest musical discoveries.
We feel pretty lucky to be included in the very short list of sites that Facebook is choosing to integrate directly into the mini-feed. Thanks Facebook!

What's the difference between this and the Facebook Pandora application? Doesn't the app already list whenever you start listening to a station on Pandora or bookmark a song, etc?

I HAVE TONS OF LP'S FROM THE 40'S,50'S 60'S AND I WOULD LIKE TO RECORD THEM TO CD'S.
ANY HELP
Posted by: ELMER at June 2, 2008 09:04 AM
@Erin -- the Pandora application for Facebook has all kinds of cool features, including the ability to populate your FB profile with all your favorite bands and stations, search for new artists, listen to over a million song samples, and share your discoveries with your Facebook friends. The only downside is you have to find and install our application for all of that to happen.
This mechanism is much simpler -- just updates to your mini-feed when you create stations and bookmarks, but it's much easier to find and has the big advantage that your updates will be visible to all your friends on Facebook -- not just the people that have installed the Pandora Facebook application.

Hi Elmer -
Great question!
Well, you can buy a machine that will assist you in converting your LPs to CD. For instance, there is a turntable that you can buy that plugs directly into your computer and converts the songs to a digital format. (you can then burn them onto CDs, if you choose)
Here's an example:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/mp3/90a0/
I'm told that it's actually quite easy to do, though it may be a bit time-consuming if you have a large LP library to transfer.
I believe you can buy this "Ion USB turntable" or something similar at BestBuy, WalMart, or Amazon.com.
**
Another option is to send your LPs out to a company who will do the conversion for you, for a fee.
I did a search of the internet and found a bunch of options you could look into here:

One last thing... here's a page with exhaustive information about converting LPs to CDs. Personally, I find it a bit overwhelming, but it's worth a read!

Good luck!

I know a great local band who released two kick ass albums. How do artists get into the Music Genome Project. I would love to introduce you to "The Deludes". You can find them @thedeludes.com.
Thanks for the great music. I love discovering new, fantastic artists.

I have just discovered Pandora radio a few days ago and I want to tell you that I love your internet radio. I love all your music selections. I love the no commerical, no talk, just good music.I have selected a few artists, and albums that I like, but have just began on this. I love the blues music and R&B and could listen to it all day. Actually, I do listen to blues a lot on cable TV. Now, when I am on my computer, I have Pandora music to listen to. I like it that I can put in my own selections, and I hear them soon thereafter. I am telling others about your fabulous station. Keep up the good work. I love the name Pandora also. It reminds me of Pandora's box, which is a potpourri of all things. So much to pick from. From now on, I am a Pandora fan. Thank you for such a wonderful radio station. Carol

I'm still confused by the difference between the Pandora app and the import mechanism. I have both... and I'm mostly concerned with posting the same news story to all my friend's news feeds twice. For example, if I bookmark a song in Pandora, it gets posted in my mini-feed twice... one for the app and once for the import. Does it get posted in all my friend's news feed twice as well?
Posted by: Matthew at July 25, 2008 06:51 PM
Hi Matthew -
You'll want *either* the app *or* the import set-up. Once you have the app, there's no need for the import.
Great question!

Lucia,
Thanks for responding.
I'm mostly concerned with sharing my Pandora usage... not just on my own mini-feed but in my friend's news feeds as well. As I understand it my friends that have not added the Pandora app will NOT see any of my usage on their own news feeds but can only see it by visiting my profile and looking at my mini-feed. For the import set-up this is not the case... imports post stories to my own mini-feed *and* my friend's news feeds no matter what they've added. Am I correct?
Posted by: Matthew at July 28, 2008 06:29 PM
Excellent addition, but I'm curious: if I don't like what this does, where do I go to switch it off?
Posted by: punkassjim at July 30, 2008 03:59 PM
Hi guys -
Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you...had to confirm the answers with my co-worker.
The key difference between using the Pandora app versus the "import" feature is that with the import feature, Pandora actively COULD show up on friends "News Feeds" regardless of whether have the Pandora app or not.
Whereas with the Pandora app, only other FB users that have the Pandora app would ever see Pandora activity on their main "News feeds". To be clear, Pandora activity shows up on a FB user's "mini-feed" on their profile page for anyone to see that visits the profile page.
Please note, however, that the Pandora app has a number of privacy preferences that can be used to better control what gets posted where on Facebook. Also, the Pandora app enables FB users to see the station lists for all their FB friends that also have the Pandora app. The "import" feature only posts a users Pandora activity.
As for how to access/manage the "import" feature, this is a little tricky with Facebooks new design. Under the "old" design, there is an "import" option under the mini-feed section of a users profile. Under the new design, there is a "settings" link under the "wall" tab of the profile page.
I hope that helps!

Can my friends listen to my stations by clicking on them from my facebook page?

Yes they can, Kim!

Please be a little (lot) more clear on the steps for linking an existing account to an existing FB profile. Specifically, using the 'new' FB layout.
Posted by: Scot at August 25, 2008 09:28 AM
@Scot
1. Log in to Facebook.
2. Click your name at the top of the Facebook page [to get to your profile].
3. Ensure you are on the "Wall" tab.
4. Click "Settings" [under the Publisher box].
5. Under "Stories Posted by You" look for "Available Sites" and click on "Pandora."
6. Enter the email address associated with your Pandora account in the box where it tells you to do so.
7. Click the "Import" button.
8. Click the "All Posts" link [back up by where you found "Settings"] to get back to your normal feed.
9. See all of your Pandora stories appear.
10. Check back to your feed after you add a station to see it add the story!
I hope that clears things up!

Oh no! I don't know if this is just a temporary hic-up or not but it appears that Facebook has moved the location of the import settings in the "new" layout. The instructions in the post above no longer work. The only way I've figured out on how to get to them is by switching back to the "old" layout. Bummer.

Hi Matthew -
Yeah, it's true, there's some weird bugs with Pandora and Facebook's new layout.
We're working on it!
:) Lucia, from Pandora
Posted by: Lucia @ Pandora at September 10, 2008 03:15 PM
Have you gotten the new layout figured out? I'd love to have this on my profile, but I can only bookmark it...
Oh, and there are no settings under the Publisher tab that I can see.
Posted by: Catherine at September 25, 2008 02:03 PM
Yes, the bugs should be fixed now, Catherine.
Feel free to email pandora-support@pandora.com if you have problems.

Can't for the life of me figure out how to link Facebook and Pandora, even after reading all these posts. Why is Facebook SO HARD TO NAVIGATE!!!
Posted by: Baz at October 1, 2008 04:58 PM
I first noticed the Pandora feed on FB when a friend has the following activity "Noah X is listening to Gnarls Barkley Radio on Pandora"
Since i imported my Pandora activity, i have yet to see any "listening" activity pushed out to my friends. I only see creation of stations. Do i have to listen to a station for a determined amount of time before the listening activity is pushed out to my feed?
Great service BTW....

Hi - I actually came to this page with the same question as Baz. I really liked seeing what my friends were "now listening to" on their newsfeeds. I've been a long time Pandora listener, but I just thought to add the fb application today. I'd like to see the newsfeeds that show when I'm listening to Pandora and what station I am playing. Is this still possible?
Thanks!

Hi Lucia,
Thank you. I did receive an email from Mike in the support team. He gave me instructions to add Pandora to the import list (which I had already done). It seems that I need to manually update the imports at this time, is this correct?
Also, it seems that the "Kellie is now listening to..." newsfeed is no longer active. Will you guys consider bringing that back if possible? It seems that many of us miss that function.
Thanks so much!

Any time, Kellie, and thanks for your feedback!
Mike will get back to you on these questions as well. (he knows these answers better than I.)
