TownHall Recap... catchup part 1
I've been quite remiss in the past month on the regular town hall recaps... it's not for lack of events.
End of August was a whirlwind. St. Louis (where I heard one of the most moving comments by a listener - father who's son had introduced him to Pandora, I got a little choked up), Minneapolis - my hometown. What a great to give a town hall full of aunts, uncles and cousins... Unfortunately, my camera was on the fritz (anyone have any pictures - I'd love to post them)...
Then spent several days in Boston at the AARP conference. Great to spend some time talking about music with our older crowd... First time we've had a Pandora "learning lab". Kind of a cool new way to try.

Very glad to have Nina there to help... lots of one-on-one time.
See more pictures from the show on the next page...

Folks had no trouble at all getting up and running. Really interesting to see what they started stations with, a sampling: Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Dixie Chicks, Benny Goodman... and of course everyone tried a Sinatra station...

One of the principal concerns I heard was privacy. There's a HUGE reluctance on the part of folks to give any kind of personal information.

There were almost 30,000 people in attendance. It was a HUGE conference hall.

That's really cool that the AARP crowd were exposed to Pandora. As internet radio (and Pandora) goes through the trials in Congress and SoundExchange buy in by members of the AARP can have a telling effect.
These people are smart, good learners, and have time to call their representatives. Nice catch.

I can't get past the pop up problem in order to "share my station with a friend". I imagine it's a problem with the flash format. I've added pandora to my "allowed site list" in windows, but pop-ups wont work even with pop-up blocker turned off. I also use Norton Anitvirus.
I thought you'ld like to know there are users who are blocked from these features.
Also, this is the only way I could send this message. If there's a better contact method, let me know.

As one of the "older crowd", I really appreciate being able to put together what I enjoy. I'm 68 and love Southern Gospel which is not the music played on New England stations.
Any thing I can do to help continue this service, please let me know. I live in New Hampshire now but have many friends in Massachusetts.
I'm also looking at the subscription service. Once logged in, I haven't been able to locate the page.

Tim Westergren and Pandora staff,
I discovered you by a fluke this past weekend. While cruising around FoxyTunes Planet, I hit the Pandora link and was rewarded with a stream of 5-6 songs that were all dead-on the mark. I was thoroughly impressed. I signed up, started educating myself and proceeded to hook my wife and kids, all within the next 24 hours. As a former software developer, I'm a natural skeptic: a site/service has to REALLY grab me or I won't waste my time. Life's too short to wrestle with the overabundance of second rate web creations out there. Pandora, on the other hand, is as good a blend of culture and technology as I've seen; a vision of what the net can and should be.
As I type, I am listening to a stream of all the jazz piano greats: Peterson, Williams, Flanagan, Garner. Further, I've already learned of new artists in the genre with whom I was formerly unacquainted: Ray Bryant Trip, Jessica Williams and others. This is like heaven on earth for me. Oh: and if you bump into Dave Brubeck, let him know that Pandora exposed me to his "Indian Summer" CD, which is now on my Christmas List.
I see that my Congresswoman is already a co-sponsor of HR 2060, yet I'll be sure to drop her a line nonetheless.
Wishing you a profitable and enduring livelihood,
I am your satisfied listener:

Just wanted to say thanks for giving me access to my 60s/70s music again! There are no radio stations in my area that play this music. I have already shared this with a friend and will continue spreading the word. The other guy in my office is hooked too! You guys are the greatest!

I am also one of the older croud. 66 next month. Being from south Louisiana I love Swamp Pop music. I can't find a lot of the artists on Pandora that have made Swamp Pop music what it is today. It is very popular here in La. and overseas also.
Try that category, almost everyone will love it...

Just a quick post to answer Lucy's question, Paul from Pandora here. Lucy we do indeed pay artists for every song played on Pandora and have done since we launched...We pay a company called Sound Exchange which collects royalties from us and pays out to record companies and artists/performers. We also pay music publishing royalties which go to the songwriters and composers of the music. Thanks for listening! Paul

just wanted to say, first, how quickly Pandora has become part of my daily life. Second, i am not seeing where trips are planned to, but when i serached for road stops in New Jersey what I saw was only "Princeton." i, myself, love Princeton. However, historically speaking, the music scene in New Brunswick is considered much more edgy and dominant. Think about, perhaps, places like the Court Tavern in New Brunswick, or even something at Rutgers.
