Sprint in Kansas City
Just returned from a great gathering at the headquarters of our mobile partner, Sprint. We held a town hall meeting on their college-esque campus. Quite some digs, complete with health center and 5 cafeterias... with 60,000 employees it's probably fair to say they're the larger of the two partners...

A couple hundred folks showed up to the event, which was also closed circuit broadcast to their Reston campus. Particular shout out to Celia for her tireless work spreading the word. And to Alana, Jeff, Laura, Jonathan, Craig (volunteer mic runner) and of course Patrick our first Sprint contact from many moons ago... nice to finally see this all become real...
Folks lingered outside the auditorium for a while to let the room warm up... yes, it was 117 degrees outside but too cold in the auditorium. I'm lodging an official complaint to all the hot summer states in the US... less AC, please!
It was great to be greeted upon my arrival by three consecutive Sprint employees sporting Pandora t-shirts or hats :) Saw many more over the course of the day.

We're still distributing hats&shirts to those who didn't arrive in time... 100 and counting.

I really felt a collective sense that when this application starts becoming better known, it's going to change the rules of mobile radio...

Some great conversation afterward too, particularly about user interface on the phone, porting to Treo, 1x service (probably doesn't make sense...) and much more.
Thanks again for being such great hosts...
Cheers. Tim (Founder)

I tend to give the thumbs down to music that isn't the style I particularly like.
Slight de-rail here, I so like Pandora. It is great not having to listen to annoying commercials and 'talk over the music djs'. I also really like the Pause feature. It's nice to be able to pause a song while you run to do something and then come back and have it pick up right where it left off.
Anyway, keep up the great work. Kudos, guys.

At the time, it could be that the song I don't like does not quite fit the genre (if it's a genre specific station I've created).

I have just discovered Pandora. It's wonderful!! I hope you will add a feature so I can search for different 'types' of music ie: Irish, Hawaiian.. etc.
Keep up the great work.

I just signed up a couple of days ago. This is a brilliant idea and I am, in fact, discovering music that I was previously unaware of.
I've given some songs the thumbs-down because they didn't match the tempo of the 'seed' song. I don't see tempo showing up as a factor in selecting songs for a station, although maybe it's one of the criteria that aren't listed explicitly. It seems to have a lot to do with whether I like a song.

Stellar service! I have experimented with a variety of jazz selections and have been blown away by the accuracy of your matching. In a hort time Pandora has achieved its goal of introducing me to artists I was unfamilar with but now enjoy.
The only downside has nothing to do with your service; its the quality of the playback on my PC laptop. My iPod and Etymotics have spoiled me!
Speaking of which, I would like to see feedback on the quality of Pandora via celluar. Do you stream 128kb to the handset? What is the quality of the playback hardware? Are some handsets better than others?
My only suggestion would be to include selections from recent Grammy winners and nominees. Due to the recognition and publicity, they can often serve as a baseline reference to related works by some of the lessor known artists.

Usually when I give a thumbs down it is because the song does not fit the genre I am trying to create. (this doe not mean I do not like the song for another station). For example, if a song plays that originated in New York and the station I made is called "West Coast Rap" I will automatically give it the thumbs down, no question.
This being said, I think it would be nice as a user to have control over what specific criteria used on stations if they choose.

Well... Needless to say that pandora is one of the most important things that ever hapend to the internet(musicly speaking)i dont get tired of listening pandora and I recomend it to everybody i know like if it was my own,it's something to be proud of.
In general i think that most of pandora listeners are hungry for music instead of marketing campaigns and drulling radio DJs.
I would love to be able to work for pandora sometime here in chicago. Please Let me know when you are coming to town.
If there are some Amon-tobin alike radio fans or any keys-electro wisard here in chicago i would like to get a hold of you. Right now I'm working in newest production and i would like to get a hold of some stage and studio companions to have the time of our lives making music. so be in touch please.
Cheers to all the pandora listeners and crew.

I've been a fan of Pandora for quite a while now and when I found out about the partnering with Sprint I was pretty excited being I'm an employee. The only complaint I have is, while listening to Pandora on my cell phone, if I have an incoming call, my phone will not ring or notify me. What's up with that???

I discovered pandora last year, and frequently rave about it 2 many of my friends, telling them it is by far the best musical site I've ever seen.
My musical parameters get expanded often!
Thanque all, I do seriously hope that pandora will be available 2 potiential listeners in the UK and elsewhere!

Like several of the comments above,I just a couple of days ago noticed a mention of you on PCMagazine (on-line ver.).Me being a Curious George type,I just had to see what they were talking about. They mentioned you were one of their top two music sites so I figured it had to be good.Know what? It is immensely better than good.Only occasionly will I have to thumb down a song.Usually because it is simply a song or artist I don't care for.I'm VERY picky about smooth segues(sp).I worked as a volunteer at an all volunteer, self sustaining,no commercials, radio station in Memphis (WEVL,the first in the country)and I learned to be critical of programming quite quickly there. This was almost 20 years ago and I am proud to say they are STILL pumping out some of the finest radio in the country. And yes, they are STILL self-sustaining. Congratulations, you are right up there with them.My wish for you is that you can do as well.

The type of music that pleases me changes with the situation I'm in at the moment. I listen to Pandora on my PC while I work on my laptop. If I am in a quandry, music that is too ethnic or has too heavy of a beat or is too country annoys me - when things are going good, it all is just great background music for working. My main complaint is that the music keeps asking me if I've stopped listening. I haven't, but I have to stop work to tell you I haven't stopped listening. Can this be rectified? Thanks.

There are various reasons why I thumb down a song, usually it's just not what I'm looking for in terms of the feel of the song, or even the overall style. Sometimes I just really don't like the lyrics, which I realize is a function Pandora doesn't (and shouldn't) focus on, and yes, sometimes it's amateurish. I've found this to be very genre-dependent. There are some artists I search for when looking for music with a similar vibe where nearly every song is spot-on, but then there are some where I am hard pressed to find anything that sounds even remotely close to what I'm looking for. Generally it falls somewhere in between the extremes and I've found some really great stuff though.

My music varies a lot. I'm currently listening to Richard Cheese, but I was recently listening to Dropkick Murphys. I've got two stations so if a song comes up and I've used my skip count up I'll switch until the end of the song.
This is how I found out about Danzig as well

i just found pandora 2 weeks ago and am completely amazed by it there is one thing that iritates me a bit with political punk music pandora picks up an angry lyrics gene so i get some music that realy doesnt mean just people yelling honestly i am picking at straws here but still if you read your feedback than this was worth it to have you atleast look into it

I just discovered Pandora a couple of weeks ago and I just love it! The thumbs up or down option is a fantastic idea. The more I learn about it the more I like it! I've contacted my state Senators about the HR bill right away. We have to keep this going! Great idea and great job!
And keep the emails about updates going!

I'm looking for a song or artist. The songs lyrics say "If we just lay here and, if we just lay here, and just forget about the world." Can anyone help me? I'm here in Independence,Mo. I've been enjoying Josh Groben.I was a hippie back in the seventies. Those were the good ole day to me. I don't like the 21st century. I am also a born again Christian so that shapes my values. The world has nothing for me. I've been there, done that. The world is controled by the prince of this world, satan. And he is destroying peoples lives. Just look around. Obama can't do anything. Were near the end, and you are not ready to live until you are ready to die! Check out MERCY ME or Steven Curtis Chapman. They tell the truth. I know the truth is the last thing most people want to hear. We need to turn to God while it is still called today. I apologize for preaching but God is everything to me. He saved my life more than once. I could never go back into the world system. It's a lie straight from hell. If anyone can help me identify the song above I would appreciate it very much.
Because of HIM,
Dave Rothwell
