Pandora Podcast #16: Hip Hop Rhyme Schemes
To quote Mos Def: "From the first to the last of it, delivery is passionate -- the whole and not the half of it, vocab and not the math of it."
So okay, okay, we DO go into the math of it a bit -- "it" being Hip Hop -- in this latest episode. Rapper/drummer/analyst Darian Gray joins me in the studio to show how rappers' rhyme schemes have evolved over time. Calling on all styles from the slower, two-measure hitter rhymes of the old school classics to the complex, intertwining poetics of contemporary lyrical acrobats like Ludacris, Aceyalone and Eminem, we look at beat patterns, stressed syllables, near rhymes and more.
To hear examples of the flows championed by Run DMC, KRS-One, Jay-Z, Twista, 2Pac and others, head to the the Episode 16 page. If you would rather scan all of the different free shows available, surf over to the main podcast page.
Yes yes y'all,
