New Pandora Website
Depending on your point of view, the original Pandora.com was either a fun retro homage to iTunes circa 1998, or maybe the best use of Khaki on the Internet -- or maybe your view is that it has a face that only a mother could love. Well, tonight we've pulled the covers off an entirely new Pandora.com. One that lets us tell the story of Pandora Everywhere while delivering a more compelling, more beautiful experience on the web. Hope you enjoy it!

Wow! So much new stuff happening. I'm sure I'll get used to the new, glassy, and blue-tinted "Web 2.0"-esque look, but I miss the old-and-familiar one. I saw the switchover happen when my player asked me to reload the page too ... what a shock!

I love the new format. Pandora is by far the best internet radio site i have ever used. thanks for everything!

Little to much on the white side for me, but I usally run it off pandora's box so not a huge concern.

I especially like the rounded corners!! Very hip. I also like the new prominence of the Profile, Share, etc. buttons. Pandora rules!

This look is better, it's nice to open pandora today and see this modification.
I would be very happy to see a nice vectorial design. Maybe you can make it skinnable ;)
Anyway, pandora is wonderfull. I'm just sad to go back in France in september... no pandora in France. Hope the licence will be ok in september. I've never bought so many CD's since i'm a pandora listener.

Love the new look, guys! Thanks.

Nice. Very nice. Thanks for such a great product, now made even lovelier. :-)

Wow! I love the new look! Funny enough, I thought my system was borked when OpenPandora launched this morning. I figured it was a Windowblinds bug.
Glad everything is working and going well. (Or as well as things can go with CongressCritters involved with internet radio.)
Again, great work (and good luck).

Love the new interface & the fact that Pause/Play are now one button. Nice touch.

First thought: Oooooo, pretty!
Second thought: Aw, no more "stacks o' CD's" for the unavailable album art. (At least on the player: it still shows up in Backstage).
Third thought: Hmm, the Pandora Blog pages are, shall we say, in transition.
Fourth thought: I wonder how soon Pandora/FM will match?
Great job, Tom et al! The new look is clean and pretty. I'll certainly be moving to Sprint when my contract's up. We'll see what happens under the Bay on Bart (you mean I might have to stop listening to Pandora for twenty minutes each way: Noooooo!)
Posted by: Mertseger at May 23, 2007 07:52 AM
Whoa, I thought I was in the wrong place for a second. I ran into a little problem, though, if I minimize Pandora (which I always do), then go back to the home page in another window, it loads a second instance of Pandora there, so I have two songs playing together.

Thanks for the great site guys, keep up the good work!
Posted by: Brian at May 23, 2007 08:10 AM
Are there plans to bring back the mini player? I miss it already! I liked the compact format of the mini window -- I could float it in the corner of my screen. Now with the full browser window it may just stay minimized in the tray...
Great design on the full page however.

Aww you changed my Pandora! :-p
It's different, I liked the functional simplicity of the old version and the darker colors were easier on my eyes, but I guess I'll just have to get used to the new version.
Posted by: Cirvin at May 23, 2007 09:05 AM
Great new look. I think it is much better and shows the improvements you guys are making to this site and its features. Keep up the good work.

Wholly mother, whholly cow! I just got to work today and sat to work and turned on Pandora and BLAM, WHAM, BOOM! I had to recheck the URL I thought I was on a different site by mistake. I was just on yesterday at work with the old look.
Hmmmm I dont know I'm a strong creature of habit and comfort this watering hole of music is a little.... not sure. Changes are good but......I dont know. This will have to grow on me.
Posted by: Roland at May 23, 2007 10:12 AM
I prefer the old look, but I don't think the new one is bad. I just prefer a "darker" overall look and the new one is too bright.
I do think I've noticed something that's different that I haven't seen mentioned yet. I just noticed that a song that appeared on my A-List station didn't require me to turn up the volume. The song "Doe" from The Breeders album Pod used to cause me to turn up my volume. I didn't have to do that this time. Did you put in volume adjustment? If so, thank you, if not what did change?
Cheers,
Tony

it looks great :) i love how sleek it is, even though i kind of miss the old one.
but it's still same old pandora radio, which has been my favorite internet radio and always will be :D
Posted by: dani at May 23, 2007 11:20 AM
Ohh.... I liked the old look... Oh well, I still love the service.
The new look is a little clinical for me.
Posted by: April at May 23, 2007 01:20 PM
I love how you kept it classic, yet you made it so much more comprehensive and sleek at the same time. Very cool! ^^
Posted by: kagitsune at May 23, 2007 02:04 PM
Looks OK, but it took awhile to see how to launch the player in a new window. This is pretty important for Firefox users who don't want to run the player in a (usually-hidden) tab. For those of us who don't read hieroglyphics, you might consider replacing the overlapping-box icon with a text label, like the buttons next to it. :)

Maybe it's just me...it feels like the new interface is running slower than the old version?
Posted by: Nate at May 23, 2007 03:44 PM
I care nothing about interfaces. All I care about is music. Thanks for that. Question:
Is there a way to download a list of the songs I have given the thumbs-up to? That would be of great assistance when I am ready to reward those fine musicians with actual purchases of music.
Posted by: Don at May 23, 2007 04:30 PM
With no offense intended to the people I know worked a very long time on the nice new look:
I don't care. Why? Because I love Pandora for what's inside. Khaki? Fine. Magenta, purple and green paisleys? So what? Those creepy Keene paintings of the bug eyed kids? Bring it on! Just keep the music coming and I'll be here. But I'm not picky. Here's hoping the changes bring in more listeners = more revenue = more Pandora!

p.s. Cough*T-shirts!*Cough!
p.p.s. Don, click on the triangle beside the station and when the menu pops up, click Edit This Station.

Hey I love the new layout! It's very cool! The old layout is now a classic! This one is just totally awsome! Great job!

I wasn't too sure why the login page was different when my browser loaded the site, however I entered my info, but when I got to my stations page, it all became clear; "A new look!", clean, slick, sweet. I remember the old look eventhough I may visit the site about one day a week. The new look now makes it same retro. Maybe it should be made available as a skin just as a reminder of the past for those who would like to see how the transformation toke place.
I love it, the menus on the top is a great idea. Like I said it's clean and slick. Kudos to your design team.
Posted by: Melton at May 24, 2007 04:48 AM
Nice new look. Are you embedding Flex inside flash? Or is it all a flash movie? Good work.
Posted by: Mat at May 24, 2007 05:42 AM
Nate, that's a great idea! kagitsune, I'm a Firefox user too so thanks for figuring that out for me.
Another feature I'd be interested in is a way to modify the criteria Pandora creates for a station. For instance, I love minor-key songs, but since most songs are in major, when I pick a group that I love for other reasons, Pandora makes major key a criterion... I'd love to be able to tweak that.
But overall, I must say that Pandora is brilliant & magical & I'm so glad it exists to introduce me to new artists that I might never have discovered otherwise. And the new design looks great.
Posted by: Leah at May 24, 2007 06:32 AM
Oops, just realized I was looking in the wrong place-- so my last comments might have been confusing-- I meant Don & Anonymous not Nate & kagitsune.
Posted by: Leah at May 24, 2007 06:37 AM
man, i'm going to miss the old interface... but the new look is really cool! well done

Posted by: Vinoj at May 24, 2007 01:35 PM
You know what would be cool if you could personalize the new look. Maybe give us the option to change the color or a new face for each user. Just like the M.S. Media Player. Just a thought, other than that. Alright the new look as grown on me, I admit it.
Posted by: Roland at May 24, 2007 06:04 PM
i like that you're trying new things out. and some more options are now more obvious on the front page. i do, however, feel that shifting to almost all white makes it slightly harder to see the separation between the different panes. the color helped orient me to the different areas before. maybe the shading is a little too subtle?

I slightly prefer the old layout, but I like the new one as well. I do, however, agree with Mertseger: bring back the "stacks of CDs" graphic for missing albumn art! It's so much more interesting than the new blue gradient, and much more symbolic of Pandora.
What's more important, however, is that the content is still the same. Keep up the good work!
Posted by: Andy at May 26, 2007 02:23 PM
It looks a lot more "Mac"-y :) And yea, too bright...but yea, I'm like Don and Jay, who cares what it looks like? Great music is all I want ;)
Posted by: Adam at May 27, 2007 03:45 PM
Tom, I just want you to know that i like jazz and
music is great. Now, where do i get the Pandora for Sonors to use in the home?
Posted by: Kenneth at May 27, 2007 05:01 PM
new site looks great but i think it would look neater if it were centralised.
great work though :-)
Posted by: Mike at May 30, 2007 06:14 AM
IMHO.. It now looks to me like every other ipod spin-off design; in doing so it does not do justice to Pandora as a totally different (fantastic) way of listening to music, although I appreciate the design probably serves its purpose. Anyhow, as others have pointed out, what it does is far more important than how it looks. it could be black with dark grey buttons and it wouldn't really matter. I'm still blown away on a daily basis by music that i'd never heard before, and to me that's what makes it great.
Posted by: Craig at May 31, 2007 09:43 AM
The new look is great! I was surprised when I opened it up! I do have to agree with an earlier comment that it would be cool to be able to customize it ourselves. But for your efforts- 2 thumbs up!
Posted by: Tracey at May 31, 2007 10:41 AM
Hmm.
Ok right off the bat big problem. All my text is whote!!. I hope I am spelling all this correctly.
Ok yes I'm ruunning mac OS 9.2 on Netscape 7, but I NEVER had a problem with the old site, EVER. It was one of the best sites to integrate old, new, mac, windows systems, didn't matter.
While I understand that people would like the new bubbly interface, the old one was easier to see on laptop screens and when it's bright out, and easier to navigate since for negative reason number two:
Why am I getting ghost, or random open one second, closed the next, pop up windows. I can't even read them all the way through since they close so quickly. I know that one said something about a registration number?
anyway, bring back Khaki!!!!

Everyone's talking about the "new look"... Is it just me or is the method for choosing songs (algorithm?) greatly improved... I am so much more liking the song selections for my station since the new look was implemented...
Posted by: Richard Schafer at June 2, 2007 10:09 PM
I actually liked the old interface better, and since you have updated it, the songs that I had marked as Thumbs up come up less and less, and songs that I dont like come up more and more. Was there a change to how that worked...?
Posted by: Ryan at June 6, 2007 07:10 AM
I would like to be able to launch the minimized player without having to load the main window - under the old interface the minimize button at least came up quickly. Now I have to wait for the player to come up in the main window and choose a song before the minimize button appears; then the minimized window has to do the same thing.
Posted by: jafelds at June 8, 2007 11:00 AM
Just discovered Pandora is accessible again after being off-limits for UK. I missed it - so glad you're back. As for the new design, its simply 'OK' but I didnt see much wrong with the old one because the whole point is the music, right? my only worry is the more complicated you make it and the more features and options you add the less simple and intuitive it becomes Remember - the secret of a great site is KISS (Keep it Simple, Stoopid)
Posted by: iloveday at June 9, 2007 04:07 AM
I would gladly trade the new "look" for a faster interface. As Ryan said, now I have to wait for the whole page to load before I can click on the "prettyized" mini-player button. Then I get to watch it all load all over again. Why?????
Why don't you folks make a functional upgrade instead of a cooler looking one?
Like many others posting, I could care less about prettiness. The usability though, that I care a lot about. Why didn't this upgrade allow me to choose what music criteria is important to me? For instance, I have a station based on Crystal Method, and I'm constantly having to get rid of songs with a bazillion beats per minute. I don't like any song that has to rely on hyper speed, but allegedly, Pandora says that I like them, based on my criteria.
Better yet, did this upgrade get rid of playing songs that sound just like the one I gave a "thumbs down" to before it? That flaw alone was enough to keep me from resubscribing (of course, I found out later I didn't have to, as my CCard was charged automagically).
Also, what about lower bandwith streams? Bill Goldsmith at RadioParadise has gotten incredible sound quality from streams as low as 40k. It used to be a moot point with me, but since Hughesnet changed their bandwidth policies, a 128k stream is no longer an option for me.
If your gonna upgrade something how about this blog? Is there any reason that I should have to enter my info when I'm already logged in?
So it's pretty, BFD. Give me an upgrade that empowers me, not one that slows me down.
Like waiting for the Sonos ad every damn time. Why is it on the player page, when I'm a paying customer? I can't imagine that enough of us are gonna run out and drop a grand, that it is worth having it right there. Can't ya just give me a link instead?
Remember folks, form follows function.
Why is this so hard?
Posted by: Why doesn't this blog know my identity? at June 12, 2007 04:15 PM
Bad idea with the "upgrade" your station is now unlistenable for me due to constant clipping and poor streaming and the endless advert on the right hand side. bye bye pandora unless things change
