MEETUPS!!!
What a great couple weeks... We had 5 town hall meetings across the country... New York City, Washington DC, Chicago (2), Seattle. What an amazing experience to spend so much time with Pandora listeners... 150 folks showed up for the NYC gathering - funny to think that just a couple months ago there were three... including me! Planning on many more.

New York City (Part 1)
Wonderful evening at NYU's Stern School. After a fun get together with about 30 students in the school's great music business program we spent almost THREE hours in a great only-in-new-york-city rowdy town hall meeting with 150 vocal music enthusiasts. Thanks to Jason Hirschorn from MTV (formerly) who joined me about midway through. These are just tremendous learning experiences for us as we hear how people are using and experiencing the service. Really dug the enthusiasm of everyone - tons of great questions, ideas and general commentary about the online radio thing.

Washington DC
Another very interactive evening at American University's Greenberg Theatre. Joined by David Oxenford and Gary Greenstein, two attorneys who have been in the music rights debate trenches for some time, about 130 DC listeners.
Took advantage of the trip to visit some local music haunts including a local community music school for all ages and skills ...the father-and-son-in-the-hallway-waiting-for-the-recital really brought me back...

the cozy Revolution Records (our original town hall meeting host, before we got 200 rsvps!)

2 Days in Chicago
Terrific location at the City Lit community theatre. Kurt Hanson from RAIN joined me for the first of two meetups. Another great set of discussions.
Seattle
Wonderful location - The Experience Music Project, Paul Allen's shrine to Jimi Hendrix and all things rock and roll (he's apparently an avid pandora user). About 100 Seattle-ites filled the theatre for a free form Q&A.
it's really an amazing experience to spend hours talking with folks - where the only point is to share ideas and love of music. Affection for music is a very powerful thing... Really looking forward to lots more of these. We're going to blanket the country before we're done...

Just want to give you guys props. I've been listening to Pandora for a few years now and continue to be impressed. The artist roster has grown and the site is unbelievably easy to navigate. Love the backstage addition as well. Thanks,
Miles

Please bring a Town Hall to Cleveland! We've always had a thriving music culture here. Cleveland radio used to be amazing, too, but most stations have now been bought up by huge corporations-which-shall-remain-nameless, and they all sound pretty much alike. This is why Clevelanders LOVE Pandora!

I mentioned a group called This Morn' Omina when I first joined Pandor and while I was asked about it I didn't have a list of albums by thge group. To fix that here is there website:

Well, lot of the same, but this is such a well desgned, easy to use site, I love it! I'm in Britain, and was wondering if we have any representatives here?
Would also like to say, would it be a smart idea if you had filters, such as no bad language (doesn't bother me ;P) or countries languages etc. To add on to the service. Like the slightly different look too, still sooper smooth, which is what I like so much, as well as the music!
Sorry it was so long, but hey, I'm a guitarist, we never when to shut up! Thanx

You guys should do many things:
A: Come to Denver
B: Team up with IZZE juice drinks - they're located in Boulder, CO and both of you seem new and fresh and fun
C: Hire me to do something cool because I can't imagine anyone loving Pandora as much as I do!

Heya Tim, analyst Jeffrey here, I've been logging in remotely while visiting inlaws in lovely Sapporo. I haven't gotten to do so much research on Japanese bands/scene as I was hoping, but I *have* done some Pandora evangelizing around here. Everyone (who I am able to explain this to in extremely broken Japanese - "'dainamiku', ne!") likes it. Natch.

I do wish I could find classical music, instrumental, as well as vocal. I've been trained in
classical voice, as well as Opera. I do enjoy
good music. I love all intruments, piano, chamber music, but I can take just so much of
what most people like. Please consider offering
music that really speaks to the soul. I like Pandora, and would appreciate it if I could do
all my listening on your site.

Hi there:
My daughter told me about your site and now others are informing me as well. For some reason my MAC is not pulling in all the features of your site so I am posting this message to acquire the necessary info and steps to submit a song to your group and site.
It is a new release and will be promoted through college radio in he near future. Grassroots promotions are in progress.
I would like to join of course but cannot locate a region where I may do so. Again my OS is not getting all the site.

If you guys are planing one of these for Southern California. Can I be added to an email list? I'd drive up to the bay area if need be, but if you did one in LA or SD, I'd be so happy.
I love the new backstage feature. It really has encouraged me to buy some of the music playing.

I've been listening to the most > set for the last 3 hours. Your song picker has taken me on the kind of musical tour that I aspired to when I seeded this station (The Unusual Aspects). I wished there was some way to tell the engine that, whatever pattern/strategy that it is using, it's working for me in a big way. Thumbbs-Up/Thumbs-Down is just to blunt an instrument...

You should plan a stop in Kentucky (particularly Lexington/Louisville...only an hour apart) on your next roadtrip. This place is a HAVEN of fantastic music...just consider the hundreds of artists (and not just country) that come from here. Besides, my husband and I have a recording studio and a guest room if you need a place to crash :) We'd be happy to give you the skinny on the scene. Thanks for making music free and available...

HELLO,
I LOVE THE GENOME PROJECT. I WAS SEARCHING FOR A PLACE THAT I COULD LISTEN TO AT WORK AND I FOUND THIS SITE AND HAVE RECOMMENDED IT TO MY COMPADRES.
ANYWAY, I GREW UP IN VIRGINIA BEACH AND AM PRIVY TO MOST OF THE LOCAL FARE. THERE IS A PLACE CALLED TO JEWISH MOTHER AT THE OCENFRONT AND THEY TEND TO HAVE MANY OF THE LOCAL FABULOUS BANDS PLAY THERE. THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWHN TO HAVE VISITING FAMOUS BANDS COME IN AND JAM. THEY ALSO HAVE AN OPEN MIC NIGHT.
ANOTHER FABULOUS PLACE IS COOGANS IN NORFOLK NEAR OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY. SOME EXCELLENT UP AND COMING LOCAL ARTISTS PLAY THERE. AGAIN THEY HAVE AN OPEN MIC NIGHT FORUM THERE IF THAT'S WHAT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN. ITS NOT A BIG PLACE BUT VERY FAMILIAR TO THE LOCALS.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE LOCAL GROUPS IS CALLED BUTTER. THEY ARE A MULTIPLE GENRE, VERY TALENTED GROUP OF GUYS THAT WERE FORMED FROM SOME NATIONALLY KNOWN AND SOME NOT SO KNOWN LOCALS WHICH HAVE GOTTEN TOGETHER TO JUST PLAY SOME GOOD MUSIC.
SHOULD YOU MAKE IT DOWN DURING THE SEASON, YOU WILL FIND ALL KINDS OF MUSIC ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT STAGES PLAYING OPEN AIR CONCERTS FREE TO ALL THAT WANT TO LISTEN RIGHT ON THE BOARD WALK.

I live in Chicago. How can I get on the list for knowing when the next time you'll be in the Chi?
Have you considered making the Pandora portal a menu bar, intereactive to be dropped from the top on ones screen? This would enable people to do other things while handling there music on the fly...
Or what about music art while music is playing???
How can you make Pan mobile???
This whole cusomization thing is brilliant...it borders on the urban legend that Bill Gates walls change colors to his preference when he enters the room...I feel so cool when I log in and music, my music, automatically pulls...not only the genre of music that I like, but the style...awesome analytical tools...I think "personal custimization is where it's at...you guys are on to something...
btw...keep it clean and simple --- I like that...it works...

I'm in the military and stationed overseas/Germany. Radio stations here sucks!! A buddy of mine at work recommended this site today and I was so excited about it.
Now I can listen to music I really really like! You guys just raised the bar on how music should be played and distributed.

My wife and I are artists. We use music to inspire us when we are creating. I told her, I wish there was a radio station that just played ambient music that we could paint by...and here you are. It is perfect, inspiring and all we need our music to be. Thank you for such a perfect thing. Jeffrey Foster Thomas

First off, I Love your site. I have recommended this site to so many of my friends and they too love it. What an amazing concept you have working here. To play bands and songs w/ similar tonalities and rhythms and so on so on so on.....its genius. I would just like to say there will never be another site that I will listen to as long as you are around!!!! If I had the experience you are looking for I would definitely work for you. Keep up the AWESOME work and keep me informed if you ever come back to Chicago. I will be there in a drop of a dime!!! Cheers!!!
Posted by: NICK at October 13, 2006 03:14 AM
Have already sent some & will send more stations to family, old friends and old band members -jazz,funk,regae,punk,newwave, dc groove, hip-hop,etc.- Amazing, you have about 90% of everything I searched on!
Only found 1 drawback so far:The "no back up" thing is a drag. Will find a way around it soon, though- there's always a workaround. But you'd figure the music biz mucky-mucks would have the smarts to allow a limited number of back ups per session/day/member. Only makes sense, 'specially if you are hearing a cut for the very first time- that is if they really want you to head to Azon or itunes.
Oh well, if your roster of major brains couldn't convince 'em in the first round ( like to have been a fly on THAT wall) you will get them in the second....or forty-third. Music execs have always been rather slow on the uptake- one of the reasons I got out of the biz.
Speakin of slow on the uptake, check out WBEZ public radio Chicago, one of the last of the great old fm jazz and worldmusic radio stalwarts, will CEASE ALL MUSIC in '07 and become talk radio cuz they say thats what the listeners want ( will pay !)) to support. Tory M, station mgr, and the gang obviously never learned to "listen down" as my old concert band Prof Schroeder used to say.
Was very worried about where I would get my continuous jazz and eclectic fix - not anymore.
In "old school roots" and "house roots" vernacular: Pandora's da bomb!

the main problem I have on this web page is the use of the web page to transfer music from one station to another ;
I WOULD FAR LESS STAIONS IF I COULD PUT ALL MY MUSIC ON ONE STATION AND THEN PURCHASE A SINGLE OR DUAL DVD/CD WITH ONLY THE MUSIC I WANT ON IT: I LOVE VARRIOUS ARTIST AND VERY FEW SELECTIONS FOR DIFFERENT OCCATIONS ....SOME SLOW MUSIC FOR ROMANTIC EVENINGS AND UPBEAT FOR EARLY GET AND GO MOMENTS !!!!!MOSTLY I LIKE SMOOTH JAZZ ALL DAY LONG ;

Hey, I have been working with my squeezebox for a while now and I wanted to post something for anyone thinking of buying one (~$300) DON'T
buy a cheap laptop on craigslist. Between squeezenet and pandora, it can be 'down' a lot of the time, you can only rate songs up or down (but not always if it starts acting squirrely!)
I am a pandora nut so I don't mind that I got one and it seems to have a lot of problems.. early adopter or something, but you are MUCH better off just getting a cheap laptop from craigslist and hooking it up to your stereo system.. you will have much more control over/info about your pandora stations and songs.
Worst part will be you won't have a remote. (but hey, the squeezebox frequently locks up so that the remote becomes useless anyway.)
also when I got my squeezebox I was FORCED to subscribe to pandora (or my account would expire)
it's not that much but... geez thanks a lot. strongarm tactics can breed contempt...
