Pandora Widgets for TypePad

typepad.jpgTonight, in partnership with SixApart, we're rolling out a new feature that makes it really easy for you to add a list of the songs you're discovering on Pandora, or a list of your Pandora stations, to your TypePad blog.

All you have to do is visit our widget page, pick the widget you want to add, pick a style, enter your pandora username, and click the "Install on TypePad" button. That will send you to the TypePad website where you can easily place your new Pandora widget in your blog sidebar.

We're doing this as part of TypePad's cool new Widget Gallery, make sure you visit their site to see all the cool options.

If you had told us one week ago, I wouldn't have created a blog for my discoveries at Pandora. o.O

By the way, good news.

Nice - is this possible for WordPress.com, too?

I'm enjoying Pandora, and may add a widget to my TypePad blog -- but is it my imagination, or is there some preference for music by men, or male vocatlists, at least? It seems that, even if I keep adding women artists, I keep getting men.

Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .

Hey, what about us Blogger bloggers? We want one, too!!

Hi Trishymouse,

We already support blogger... takes a bit of template hacking, but it's pretty easy. Just follow the instructions here:

Hey! After spending hours getting this just right, I sign out to see how it will work for my readers, only to discover -- it doesn't. They get ads. They have to sign up for an account.

It's outta there.

I am *so* disappointed! With flickr they at least get to see my photos, and, as a 'pro' member, without ads. I expected the same here.

Hi SB,

Sorry to disapoint you. Pandora is a free ad-based service and advertising is how we pay our bills (which ultimately is what allows us to operate). Your subscription doesn't cover enough of our costs to allow us to serve streams and pay licensing for everyone you send to Pandora. I understand that this is different than Flickr, but our cost structure is not comparable. Believe me if the economics allowed for it, we'd love to let folks you send us listen without advertising.

I think the disappointment might be avoided for future users if you make this clear at the outset. I'm trying to decide how to handle this, myself. I don't want to disappoint my readers, and I would like them to be able to listen to my stations -- but as it is, they *will* be disappointed when they click that link.

I may add a warning, or I may just remove it from my site.

I'm sorry, too.

Thanks for the quick response.

Good feedback SB. I've update the "Linking to Pandora" FAQ entry accordingly. Thanks again for listening, and for taking the time to offer your perspectives. This really helps us.

Is there any way to make the songs it shows random, or does it just show the most recently fav'd songs?

Thanks!
