Any chance you guys will swing by Houston? I happened to be lost in yesterday Austin, but wasn't aware of SXSW or that you guys were in town...

Posted by: Lauren at March 17, 2006 07:32 PM

Definitely hitting Houston. I'll be there at the end of next week (Thurs/Friday). Ideas? I keep hearing about the burgeoning rap/hiphop scene.

I am really enjoying my Pandora station. I want to make a suggesting. I think there should be a way to edit which songs you add to the station. I added one song that totally changed the type of songs offererd to me. I'd like the option to delete a song from the station so that more like it will not be played.

Thank you for considering this!

Hi X,

You can edit your stations, including deleting feedback and additions, with the current version of Pandora. Click on the triangle next to the name of your station. Then click on "Edit this station".

WOW, wow, OMG guys, this is amazing! Got the link from a friend today and I just CAN't believe it. I mean, there are other services of this kind outthere, but THIS, well, I just keep starrin at my screen. And so CLEAN, and CLEAR, and COVERS included, and the great CHANCE to find other amazing artists, and BOTH options to buy songs (amazon and iTunes)- well, count me in for a subscription and a lot of promotion.

Make sure you run across the street to Lucky Lou's for a shot. Tell 'em Crapenany sent ya.

Also, go by Hailey's Club (www.haileysclub.com), and Rubber Gloves (www.rubberglovesdentontx.com). Those are the two best music venues in Denton, by far.

Enjoy!

If you have any way to stay over in DFW until the evening of the 23rd, I'd suggest Micky & The Motorcars opening for Reckless Kelly in Ft. Worth at The Aardvark (http://www.the-aardvark.com).

Posted by: Gregg at March 20, 2006 01:32 PM

I know you are probably looking for music leads, but you should also make time for food. And when you make time for food, go to the legendary "Sonny Bryan's"--Inwood location only, lunch only, beef only. www.sonnybryans.com

As for music, Booker T is closed until next year, I believe, due to renovation and expansions.

If you haven't heard of Deep Ellum, in Dallas, that's probably the best place to find live music on a school night. http://www.deepellumtx.com/main.html

Have a great visit...sorry to miss you in Denton. Keep up the good work on the genome project.

Posted by: jenni at March 20, 2006 01:39 PM

Hey tim got the email.

The best Heavy Metal Club in Dallas is The Galaxy Club in Deep Ellum. My personal favorite.

For some other good music, try the Gypsy Tea Room (GTR). The GTR has some of the most prominent acts in Dallas. Tree's is good, too.

The Bone has some excellent blues. The bone also has a rooftop stage and bar with picturesque view of downtown Dallas. All three of the clubs are in Deep Ellum.

I don't venture too far outside Deep Ellum so I sent the email to a friend who happens to be quite the authority on live music in and around Dallas. She's out checkin on all the new sounds.

I'm at work so I gotta go and prentend I'm busy.

Pandora Rocks,

Willie

Hi Tim:

Just wanted you to know that Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet Hight School is vacant. The kids have moved temporarily for the next couple of years while the building prepares to be demolished and updated to accommodate the new needs and era. However, the historical part of the school will remain.

Let me know when and where you're going in Dallas. I'm familiar with your site, met one of you last week at the SXSW trade show. Would love to meet with you about the Texas artists we distribute. I'm also the booking agent at a venue in Dallas Called Double-Wide.

Get in touch!

Thanks,
Chelsea

There are some wonderful musical venues in Denton; some of them include Hailey's Club (www.haileysclub.com), Rubber Gloves (www.rubberglovesdentontx.com), Dan's Silverleaf, Mable Peabody's, and J&J's Pizza. There are also a lot of coffee shops (Banter, Art 6) which have live music. Plus, due to UNT, the town features great local music (www.jazz.unt.edu) and lots of college bars/dives. You should definitely check out the jazz at the Syndicate from 9-midnight on Wednesday. There are also recitals on most evenings. Good luck on your roadtrip.

One of my favorite places to catch live music for the last couple of years has been the Amsterdam Bar on Monday night -- Jazz Night, usually featuring Shelly Carol... a phenomenal sax player. It was recently written up in the Dallas Observer Best of and it's got that very wonderful neighborhood bar feel. I still drive there to soak up the music and the atmosphere even though I moved from the neighborhood half a year ago.

A few things for you, first of all if you haven't done it yet don't leave the metro-plex w/o stopping by " Good Records" on Greenville Ave. in Dallas, Also I'm sure you've heard of "Bills' Records and Tapes" Place has been around forever and truly the last of its kind.

As far as seeing live music while your hear... not the best days for catching local shows.
However Damien Jurardo is playing at Haileys in Denton.

check out TexasGigs.com for all local and national acts' listings
in and around Dallas

I'll try to come up to denton for the meet up. But If I dont make it Just want to let you know I'm really impressed with your creation. I'd be interested to see what you guys would match up with my favorite local act and yes I'm biased but I think you'd find for good reason. I added them as my URL the Band Name is Woodbelly and they are a little bit of a lot of things. If you can check them out let me know what you think.

I want to first say that pandora.com rocks! I live in Denton so I thought I'd give you some sugestions incase you haven't any yet. I recommend checking out Rubber Gloves and Haileys. They both have great shows and provide everything from punk to comedy rock and folk. You resently missed some good ones. Denton has much more than just jazz. I've lived in FL, VA, and all over TX and I have to say the past two years living in Denton have revived my passion in music. Hope there is a good show for you while you are in town. Thanks for getting the music out there! >Loren

Will try to come by Flying Tomato on Wednesday.
If you get into Denton by Tuesday evening, there is a good open mike at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios - starts at 10:15 pm

Directions at www.rubberglovesdentontx.com

Posted by: Mister Joe at March 20, 2006 07:38 PM

Ahh, hell, I forgot about Dan's. Go there, too.

Posted by: Paul McEnany at March 20, 2006 07:56 PM

If you haven't done so already, you should take a look at some local publications that list venues and performances going on in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. Two examples are the Dallas Observer (www.dallasobserver.com), which is available in print for free at newsstands, and Guide (www.guidelive.com), which is printed every Friday as a special section in the Dallas Morning News- our local paper. Have fun at the Flying Tomato- I won't be able to make it but I wish I could- I've only had the opportunity to go there once since I graduated from UNT a few years back!

Posted by: Linda at March 20, 2006 08:21 PM

Hey, you should go to Wylie, TX and check out a band called Back After Dawn. They are really good and I think you will like them alot!

Thanks,
Josh

If you need ideas of where to go/eat/play around Dallas, I've been here for about 20 years and know the gamut.
It would be the least I could do for all of your great work on Pandora. What a great idea.

Posted by: Peter at March 21, 2006 08:04 AM

Hey, Tim. I sent you an email. I don't know which you check more often. :) I will definitely be there tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Posted by: David (Ben Zephyr) at March 21, 2006 08:32 AM

Oh man! I am so glad you guys are coming to Texas and the SXSW in Austin! I wish I had seen this in advance so I could go meet you guys. I absolutely ADORE my Pandora so much (now I'm annoyed with other players! HAHAHAH!).

Please be sure to road trip next year around SXSW time. I will be sure to look for you!

I agree with a lot of the users, I love the site!!!! I have just discovered it and have heard so many bands that I never even knew existed. Do you have plans to come to Chicago? If so, I am obsessed with a local band here called Helicopters (http://ilovehelicopters.com/) that you might want to check out. I think there are many people out there who would enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you for educating me on all of this great music!

Posted by: Tiffany at March 21, 2006 11:21 AM

Tim, you simply have to check out Montrose while you are in Dallas. He is playing at Brooklyn Jazz Cafe tonight from 7 until 11. (I heard a rumor you are going to be right down the street at Standard and Pours tonight so slide on by!!) You can also check out Montrose's website at www.montrosemusic.com. Hope to see you there.

Wednesday night at Dan's Silverleaf is a great band Snarky Puppy. They are a bunch of jazz students from UNT playing very cool music.

Jamie: maybe you just actually like them and are afraid to admit it. ;)

I really enjoyed hanging out with you yesterday, Tim. It was really really cool. You have a great vision for the future of music. I really truly believe Pandora is the future of radio.

Posted by: David (Ben Zephyr) at March 23, 2006 02:08 PM

I don't do well with remembering singers names or the name of the songs. Can you set up your site to where you can put the type of music and it gives a list. That would be great.

HI Y'ALL.
I'M A DJ HERE IN AMARILLO, TEXAS. I PLAY CLASSIC COUNTRY AND WESTERN SWING. WE HAD A GREAT CLASSIC COUNTRY AM RADIO STATION HERE UNTIL THE 1ST OF THE YEAR AND IT SOLD (TO A CHURCH). I HAD 3 PROGRAMS A WEEK ON IT. WHEN WE WENT OFF THE AIR I DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE UP THE MUSIC. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THESE TWO GENRES. SO I BOUGHT PEAVEY EQUIPMENT AND STARTED DJ'ING FOR PARTIES AND DANCES. I LOVE IT.
IN CASE YOU EVER GET TO AMARILLO GIVE ME A CALL AND I'LL BE GLAD TO SHOW YOU OUR GREAT CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC SCENE. SHOULD YOU EVER BE AROUND CENTRAL TEXAS (JACKSBORO) BE SURE AND LOOK UP JOE PAUL NICHOLS, HE SINGS GREAT CLASSIC COUNTRY AND HAS SEVERAL CD'S OUT. I USE HIS MUSIC A LOT. JODY NIX OUT OF SWEETWATER IS ANOTHER GREAT. I HAVE ALL OF HIS MUSIC ON CD. HIS FATHER WAS THE LEGENDARY HOYLE NIX WHO PLAYED FIDDLE FOR BOB WILLS AND WROTE THE GREAT HIT "BIG BALLS IN COWTOWN". ONE OF AMARILLO'S GREAT CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSICIANS IS EARL WHITT, HE SINGS, PLAYS GUITAR AND A MEAN FIDDLE. HE ALSO PLAYS WITH A BAND CALLED (WHAT ELSE??) "CLASSIC COUNTRY". EARL ALSO GOES SOLO WITH HIS MUSIC AND USES TRACKS OFF CASSETTES. HE PLAYS AT THE VFW CLUB ON WED. & FRI. NIGHTS. I USUALLY PLAY THERE ONCE A MONTH ON A SAT.
WELL I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT CLASSIC COUNTRY BUT, I'LL STOP FOR NOW AND LET YOU DIGEST ALL OF THIS.
THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT SITE. I LOVE TO LISTEN TO IT WHEN I'M PLAYING ON THE COMPUTER. I USE A COMPUTER FOR MY MUSIC BUT, I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER THIRTY FOUR HUNDRED SONGS IN IT.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND LETS HERE SOME JODY NIX, JOE PAUL NICHOLS, BOBBY TORRES AND JAKE HOOKER ON PANDORA.!!!!!
BEST WISHES.

I was a drummer in Amarillo during the 1960's and traveled to Dallas during the summer of 1962 with a friend, Steve Mathews, to play with a band there. We played six nights a week at the Colonial Club in Grand Praire. I've tried to remember the singer's name in vain. He was a Dallas resident and his first name was Paul. Paul's lead guitarist was named Clark and I don't remember his last name either. Paul was heavy-set and the band played mostly rhythm and blues.I don't know if he's still around but I'd sure like to know. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreicated.
