Pandora for your Stereo
Update: It's March 1st, and we've launched Pandora + Squeezebox. Click here for all the details.
We've got something pretty exciting to share tonight. David Pogue over at the New York Times just broke the news that on March 1st Pandora is coming to the Slim Devices Squeezebox:
"the Squeezebox will do something no other hi-fi component can do: it will hook into Pandora... Slim Devices predicts that Pandora will become a wildly popular feature, and that's probably true." (read the entire story)
The Squeezebox, as Pogue's story attests, is simply the best way to deliver digital music to your home stereo. It's a beautiful device, with an elegant user interface and exceptional audio quality. Plug it into your home network (wired or wireless) and enjoy Pandora from the comfort of your couch. You'll be able to listen to all of the stations you've been creating at Pandora.com, rate songs, and bookmark favorites all with a simple remote control. Pandora-on-Squeezebox will available to Pandora subscribers ($36 for a year or $12 for three months) and will work with any Squeezebox 2 as well as the new (and very beautiful) Squeezebox 3.
To get you started, on March 1st, Pandora will be offering a free 90 day subscription to new and current Squeezebox 2 and 3 owners. When you connect your Squeezenetwork account with your ad-supported-free Pandora.com account (you'll do this from your account page at the Squeezenetwork website) we'll automatically upgrade you to a 90-day-free subscription on Pandora. No credit card required. In the meantime, have fun listening to Pandora online for free.

That's cool, other than the fact that my "home stereo" is connected to my computer anyhow. Seeing as how i write music all the time, my computer has studio monitors and a 5.1 system already attached. No need for me to upgrade just yet... but i am glad that the NYTimes of all papers covered you guys, awesome.

I just finished reading Pogue's article in the NYTimes. The SqueezeBox sounds amazing. To be able to play your music files in anywhere in range of your WiFi network from a relatively inexpensive and high quality receiver. Many have tried and failed to deliver on this promise.
But then, I was floored when I found that my favorite music site was going to be playable thru this neat gadget!
It sounds like a perfect combination of elegant ideas. Squeezebox3 and Pandora.
Where's my credit card!?!?!?!
Best of luck (as if you need it!)

this is amazing news; a friend just told me about pandora and I have spent the last hour creating my favorite radio station ...
as a squeezebox user too I was thinking 'it would
be great if this was available for the squeezebox' and I was about to post on the squeezebox discussion lists when I checked the blog only to discover that my wish has come true!
thanks guys!

Sounds like the perfect addition to the SqueezeBox.

Yet another thing I can't afford.
Are there actually plans for a standalone EXE player for Pandora?
Posted by: pinko at February 9, 2006 07:14 AM
It would be great if you would offer the same hookup through D-Link's Media Lounge.
Posted by: Chris at February 9, 2006 08:49 AM
Great news, now skip the list of hardware players and make a software plugin for XP MCE so I can play pandora on my HTPC using the remote...

My friend got me a Squeezebox a few weeks ago and I ignored it, after all I had Pandora... Then he set it up Tuesday, and I said "Gee if only it could connect directly to Pandora".
He woke me up this morning "Did you see the paper?"
I'm one very happy camper!
You guys rock!!!

!!! music genome project/pandora - great! wonderful! blows my mind! people can do positive things! like this! thank you!

i think you should be able to make mixed cd's to send to your friends or loved ones based on your favorites or songs you like from your radio stations - how can this be done ? i want pandora to make valentines day cd's for me . . . please . . .
i love this site . . .
Posted by: Jaki Levy at February 10, 2006 01:53 AM
The device looks neat, but the remote looks way too complicated for me :)
Sam (wonders when Pandora will be available in Europe)
Posted by: Sam at February 10, 2006 02:06 AM
This is one awesome concept. Caught the article in the NYT where it mentioned the site and I was up until the wee hours checking in out. I experimented with some Foreign music and did not have as much success but this is a very briliant and novel idea.
Other than the top twenty most shared stations, how does one find others with similar music tastes.
Posted by: jan at February 10, 2006 03:28 AM
Please implement some kind of way to publicize one's own station here, you know just a list or something like that. It would be really nice to surf all (publicized) stations out there not just the top 20.
And when one gives out an url of one's station it would be really nice if it would take the station's name as an argument so it would look like
pandora.com/?station=fancymusicstation
instead of
pandora.com/?sh=sc987345683987
plain text legible..

And if you could provide some "seeds" for starting.. for example I would love to learn to know brazilian music better but I have no place where to start none at all. I don't even know what their music styles are called. Yet when I hear it, like on tv from rio carneval on ftv, I love it.
Ok I am ignorant but help people out a little will you? Let the good vibes roll and we'll love it!
Posted by: Terry at February 10, 2006 09:30 AM
I set my brother up with an iBook and an airport express. He loves sending his iTunes wirelessly to his stereo, but he was disappointed when I told him that it wouldn't work with Pandora. Then I found a little app called Airfoil. It can send any audio on your Mac to your airport express.
I like the idea of squeezebox, but unfortunately it doesn't support iTMS purchased music. So for now I'll stick with my express and airfoil solution.

How about talking to Tivo about doing the same thing with them?

Any posibility of getting the Roku line of products to support Pandora?
Posted by: John McLaughlin at February 11, 2006 01:53 PM
There are a bunch of Roku users out there that would love to have the ability to stream Pandora on their Roku Soundbridges. I would even be willing to pay up to $9.99 per month for this service if it worked with Roku. Until that day comes (if it ever comes)I will have to keep my Rhapsody subscription.
Posted by: Kiran at February 11, 2006 03:44 PM
I did a test run of this when it was pretty early in development and loved it, but I live in Canada and had to stop. With all these updates, how long till Pandora's available to us Canucks?

Thank you for the gift of which you have given. Now I no longer must look for a site like napster used to be since here is something better. You may not follow me so I'll SPEAK UP FOR YOU. With your creation I am introduced to music I would never heare on the commercial stations and thus my mind has became enlightened and so has my inner being from some of these songs as well. Thank you for making there be a outlet that is different than going insane every freakin day. I'd rather get crazy in the room with___________or a rockin session or beat session at times of stress. Thank you agian for your gift. I am stuck in-between jobs and your gift is helping me pass some of the free time I have after doing online resumes and some out door searchs though most things are online now. Thank you all at pandora.

I've just spent the weekend discovering Pandora. It's fantastic. And, as a Slim Devices user since 2001, I think you guys have definitely made the right move enabling streaming to the Squeezebox. There is no better or more elegant digital music device than the Squeezebox. One big reason: it does one task really, really well--music playback. No video interface, no pictures, no other extraneous gack. Plus, Slimserver software is a real triumph of the open-source model.
I can't wait to subscribe in March! Thanks!
Steve Terry
Posted by: Steve Terry at February 12, 2006 02:38 PM
Wish I could subscribe... when is this service going to be available to Canadians?
Posted by: Liz at February 12, 2006 08:16 PM
Amazing . . . simply amazing . . . ask the user about his musical taste and then find compositions and artists that match . . . an incredible concept. Now I have to get decent speakers for my laptop.
You evidently have most of the jazz and pop bases covered; I would appreciate a classical selection as well.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Just discovered the magical world of the music genome project; haven't left my computer since. You people are a blessing to music. This is exactly what I have wished for.
Liking it, loving it, cherishing it!!
Thanks so much for the work!!

I've been using Pandora for over a month now and it's become the first thing I click if I want to hear music.. not Winamp, not my music folder which i've gone through a few times. Awesome collection of reggae and hip-hop, underground and mainstream, I've hooked at least five of my friends to this thing and they can't get enough of it. So it makes me glad that you guys are getting recognition since you've become DJ Pandora in the mix... best of luck.

Posted by: Botzy at February 14, 2006 09:55 AM
Not to discourage subscriptions (I'll subscribe just as a fan), but I'm having great success broadcasting anything on my computer--including Pandora--via a $70 FM transmitter to receivers all over the house. Unlike some FM transmitters, this one has been getting generally good reviews from knowledgeable users (a boost-ranging tip from reviewer NC at Amazon may come in handy). The transmitter plugs into any source that has a headphone jack. It's sold by C. C. Crane at www.ccrane.com. Look for the FM transmitter on the home page, or search for it. (I have no connection with the company except as a satisfied customer.) Meanwhile, Pandora rocks. Thanks!

Squeezebox looks pretty darn neat, but I'd have to get a new job before I could afford it. Not that it's too expensive - I'm just too poor.
Pandora is fantastic....my life saver. I work in an office inside a metal building that's located inside another metal building. Radio reception is nonexistent. After several days of online radio stations, I was ready to give up, then I heard about Pandora (don't remember how, maybe a newspaper article?) I've been cultivating stations for a couple weeks now, and rarely have to "thumbs down" anything anymore. But as my moods change, I can change the station and know that the music I like will be there. It's the best thing I've ever found online!
....Not to mention a few bands that have been added to my collection - I never would have heard them otherwise.
Thank you Pandora guys!!!!

I have been listening to Pandora and I am loving it. It feels like it was made for each one of us individually. I have been introduced to so much new music. I guess one of the reasons we like it is at this point we are getting music without something we disdain, advertising. Even though abhor subscriptions, I'm going to sign up for a Pandora subscription.
I have a Squeezebox and I can say it has far exceeded my expectations. I can't wait for the Pandora and Squeezebox integration. (I agree with other posts that this was an excellent move for Pandora.)
Great job to the Pandora team.
Posted by: Dan at February 14, 2006 03:04 PM
It's a hot solution, but I can't find what the audio rate is going to be anywhere?
I love Pandora's ability to select, but the 128kbit stream sounds like junk on my high end stereo. In fact, Pandora's often selected albums I already own and so I've been able to compare CD to streaming back to back and it's harsh. You can't compress Metal this much and expect it to sound clear.
The Squeezebox looks great(!), and might even make a subscriber out of me, but it all hinges on the sound quality. If it's supplied by the same stream as Pandora on the browser, it's not happening. GIGO.

Hey, don't think I'm interested in the whole sueezebox thing, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I read about Pandora in my local newspaper, The Winston-Salem Journal, in the weekly hip section (called the Relish) and they had a wonderful write up about pandora.com. As soon as I could I logged on tried it, loved it, and subscribed. I have spent hours listening to it over the past 3 days, I absolutely love it, it plays almost exactly what I want, and if it doesn't I can just skip to the next song. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!

Introduced to Pandora yesterday and while I'll be dragged kicking and screeming into satallite radio, I suspect I'll soon be buying my music selections from Pandora for the latest, greatest i-pod that is supposed to debut at NAB in May.
Posted by: Vidego at February 15, 2006 06:53 AM
I think this is a great idea, BUT....
We have too many devices trying to "enter" our living rooms already. It would be wiser and easier for Pandora to squeeze their way into the living room by writing software for other devices that already have internet connectivity and are already heavily deployed in our living rooms. Like TiVo, all of the Net capable game consoles, Media Centers, and any of the various Home Theater PC (HTPC) front end applications like Windows MCE, SnapStream BeyondMedia or BeyondTV, RageTV, MythTV, etc.
With these sorts of devices it is common for a plugin architecture to allow home users to develop their own plugins to support additional support such as something like Pandora. If Pandora had an published public interface that other developers could develop to, it could be a huge boon for new subscribers.
Please contact me for futher information on this if you'd like to discuss how this can be done to preserve Pandora's intent and control over their service, will enabling a broader range of support and deployment options.
Cheers,
Scott Lindner

Posted by: Charlie at February 16, 2006 02:55 PM
I found Pandora through the NYT article too--what a boon to society you guys are. I've turned on at least five grateful friends, and my itunes files are languishing in their little beds because I only have ears for the new music I'm discovering through Pandora.
What I love about your service the most is that I'm discovering music and musicians that aren't even ON itunes or for sale on amazon (forget Limewire)--I suspect that soon I will be haunting the old vinyl shops and digging my dad's turntable out of the attic.
Btw, whoever thought of the musical genome project is a genius, and whoever is putting in those hours categorizing each and every song should be canonized. If only you were publicly traded--I would buy tons of your stock. Please let your faithful fans know first if you decide to do an IPO, or whatever it's called.
Oh and as far as squeezebox goes--coolio--it's on my list and will answer my prayer requests for an integrated music system. Is one coming soon that will integrate my computer and my car stereo? With Pandora? My world would be complete. :-)
Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Thanks Pandora! Worlds better than any other internet radio (if you can even be put in the same category...) I'm normally a radio person, but here in Korea my options are limited. You're my lifeline for quality music variety!
Sorry to you Canadian friends for whom Pandora doesn't work... Maybe you should move to Korea?

Greetings and salutions to all at Pandora! I have been a devoted listener to Pandora.com for several months now. I was tired of all the trouble and virus's that came with online radio and so was my company's chief computer tech... one day he mentioned this awesome site... now it's the first thing i turn on when i get to work and the last thing i turn off when i leave. I have 15 stations i have been playing with to locate the music i never knew.......
All my life i have been trying unsuccessfully to find "my" music, now, i have turned my office into a big boom box! I like a combination of rock and vocal hard trance/electronica, but don't know what to call it, where to get it, or how to stay informed of this type of music industry since there are no clubs that play this within an hour's drive in any direction and no radio station's that play electronica/ hard vocal dance /trance/ hard vocal trance (i don't care for disco which is the only thing out there). Pandora is a life saver!!! I can now honestly point and say "that is what i like!"! I don't know how i survived without this! It's like waking up from being the living dead...
I have recomended Pandora to several friends and all have been vigorously thanking me for introducing them to the best music connection on the planet! Even a global traveling DJ friend of mine is impressed with the available selections and is addicted to Pandora!

This is incredibly exciting! I can't wait to try it.
However, as someone who just spent >$500 having his squeezebox modified for better sound quality, I have to second Dan's comments about the 128kbps limit. Many squeezeboxes will be connected to audio systems that really require a higher bit-rate to sound decent. Please tell me you're working on that, because pandora would instantly become the ONLY internet radio worth listening to.

I'm loving this online radio station! I just don't fully understand how to use it yet, at least not to it's full potential. Is there a way to review/play songs that I've selected that I like and want to keep? Also I'd like to play other songs from CD's of artist' which I selected to be a part of my station. How do I do this? I'd also like to skip as many songs that I don't like as I want to, and only play/listen to the songs/artist' I want to hear. Any suggestions? Anyone, anyone?

Posted by: kitty at February 21, 2006 11:58 AM
Domonick, the answers to all of your questions are in the FAQs.
http://blog.pandora.com/faq
When you add a song to one of your stations, it becomes part of its (very large) playlist. Your station will eventually play the songs you add, but you can't cause Pandora to immediately play them, even if you "skip as many songs that [you] don't like as [you] want to, and only play/listen to the songs/artist' [you] want to hear":
http://blog.pandora.com/faq/index.html#25
Just add "other songs from CD's of artists which [you] selected to be a part of [your] station."
Then just keep working the thumbs up and thumbs down until you like what your station is playing.
Whoa! Dang, "Why Not" by Hilary Duff really needs to have its volume adjusted!

David,
The following works in Windows 98.
Drag the icon, that's immediately to the left of whatever URL is in the address field of your browser, and drop it onto your desktop. That should create a desktop icon with [someURL]. (Tip: You may have to resize the window your browser's in, so that you can see your browser and your desktop simultaneously.)
Subscribe to the listener-specific RSS feed of your own station. (Tip: Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird are two applications that support subscription to RSS feeds.) Here is a Web page with a simple tool for generating your Pandora station's feed:
http://www.pandora.com/feeds
In the section named, "A Listener's Stations," put the email address that you associated with your Pandora account.
After subscribing, open your station and you will find its URL in a hyperlink. Copy that (to the clipboard).
Show your desktop. Right-click on the desktop icon you created and edit its properties so that the icon's URL is the URL you got from the RSS feed.
Note: The URL in the hyperlink, named Bob-Tuba, that's under this post is a station hyperlink.
Let us know how you make out.
Bob

HOLY SWEETNESS
pandora rocks and it would be cool if you could input multiple tracks or artists for stations
i.e. instead of just creating a bright eyes station you could type "bright eyes" and "third eye blind" to get a mix with the best characteristics of both!!
like selective breeding maybe! lol
thanks 4 making the coolest thing

Recently bought Logitech's Wireless Music System for PC - this seems to runs on Bluetooth - transmitter plugs into USB on my laptop and receiver is plugged into stereo. This works for all music stored on, attached to or streamed via my computer. Cost $100
More convenient to be able to see what's playing on my machine than have to go to the stereo and look. Can't see how Squeezebox would be worth paying an additional $150?
Posted by: Michael at February 26, 2006 03:33 AM
Since you're already involved with Apple and iTunes, why not make Pandora (one of the greatest things I've yet seen to hit the net) work with Airtunes and Airport Express to stream wirelessly to a home stereo?
Squeezbox sounds cool, but I've already got an airport and airtunes set up between computer and stereo...
Posted by: Ty at February 26, 2006 02:17 PM
You can use AirFoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/) to deliver Pandora to your stereo via Airtunes/Airport Express.

Let me know when it get's less expensive than satalite radio. Does that slim box play network Xbox games on come Hong Kong or what?
Posted by: PLP at February 26, 2006 07:08 PM
This is way to good to be true. Whens it gunna end? It will end or get expensive I just know it...I was also wondering why someone mentioned Candians can,t get it? I live on the border of Michigan and I used my American address I have over there. It certainly seems to have worked. What are the consequences of this?

It would be great if I could listen to my stations in my car. Will this ever happen? I would even pay for it...

I know it's possible to listen to Pandora using Airfoil to connect to my Airport, but I'd like to second (third? fourth?) the motion to integrate Pandora right into iTunes. That would *rock* because then all my music would be in one place. :-)
Posted by: Adrienne at March 5, 2006 01:32 AM
thanks for the song; i could never find this song anywhere, or a person who had heard of it except the local college radio station.
Posted by: dana at March 7, 2006 06:39 PM
All we need now is an MP3 player that connects directly to Pandora anywhere, without the need for a computer or nearby port of any kind.
To be able to have Pandora on an MP3 player anyplace, anytime... I'd buy that in a flash, wouldn't you?
Posted by: Nick at March 8, 2006 09:39 AM
I haven't listened to anything but talk radio for years. I love contemporary jazz and stuff from the 80's and 90's like Chick Corea and The Rippingtons, Joe Zawinul, etc. No local stations play 'the good stuff' anymore. Now i can listen to NEW artists and NEW music by familiar artists who's cd's i'd like to sample before i buy. And i can create an 'oldies' station with the Yardbirds, Cream, etc. I'm in the process of making my own 'Screaming Blues' station. I am in Music Heaven!
Insanely Unbelieveavle! Best on the Net!!!
Posted by: Rick at March 11, 2006 08:53 PM
Additionally;
You say there's 10,000 artists and 300,000 tunes. if you can find stuff i like (and you have!) you must have way more that that! Fess Up! How much music do you REALLY have!
I'm going to link your site to my high-end stereo somehow soon. Maybe the quality isn't as good as the original, but at least i'll be introduced to new tunes that i can buy!!!

Hi SalfshaH,
Audio reception problems can happen if your connection is generally slow (for example, if you access via a modem) or if your LAN or Internet connection is congested or is at capacity. Pandora requires connection speed of at least 500 Kbps to stream our high quality audio content. While listening, you may need to avoid bandwidth consuming activities like large file downloads and online gaming to ensure smooth playback. For a rough estimate of the performance of your connection you can use this website:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
The results should look something like this:
2005-10-20 18:19:09 EST: *2562 / 452*
Your download speed : 2562 kbps or 320.3 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 452 kbps or 56.5 KB/sec.
Geography can also play a role in audio playback quality. Due to licensing restrictions, Pandora is currently only offered to users in the United States. As a result, all of our audio servers are in the US. If you are attempting to access Pandora from outside the US, the distance that the audio must travel (and the number of network "hops" from our servers to your machine) can be a very real issue. We'll be rolling out local servers when we launch our international services.
Audio problems can also occur when you use an older versions of the Flash player. You can download the latest version here:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
Your computer's speed could be an issue. If you are using an older machine, there may not be enough memory or CPU resources to properly buffer and play back streaming audio while running a Flash applet. If you are using an older machine, you may need to keep other resource-intensive applications to a minimum when using Pandora.
If you're listening from work, sometimes IT departments decide to limit their user's access to music streaming services like Pandora. If you're having problems with audio breakup when you listen from the office, you may want to check with your IT department to make sure that they haven't blocked your access to streaming services.

Hi!
Greetings from the comoros. It's seem hard for me to tell you how much I enjoy listening to this station. You know,in my country we listen to local time which is being dictated by our borring local radios.guess what?I feel myself in heaven rounded by all angels.so far I'd like to know more about where this station is .
Posted by: housseine at March 20, 2006 08:07 AM
I quite like Pandora, but I don't see why you'd need to pay for something to send the music stream to the stereo. If it only works within wireless range(I'd say 100 feet?), what's the point? I could hear it from my computer 100 feet away. Or, as I have a laptop, simply carry it around with me. The laptop has a greater range anyway...
Posted by: Anya at March 20, 2006 01:31 PM
I prefer to just take my laptop and connect it to a cheap standard mini to RCA composite cable. Then adjust settings on the laptop to flat. With the volume midrange, now I just adjust volume etc via stereo. All for less than $10. ;)
Posted by: Jascha at March 20, 2006 06:36 PM
But the squeezebox is just more fun ;) Stylish design, very good display, very good ir reception, tons of plugins... (Last.fm, MusicMagic, MoodLogic, ...)
Audio quality is far better than with most soundcards. And for comparable soundcards you'd pay almost as much as for the whole squeezebox.
+ digital outs +++ ... etc.
No, I'm not from slimdevices - I'm just a happy customer ;) And I already HAVE my PC connected to my stereo ;)
BTW, Pandora is great! Thank you guys! Pleeeaaase get licenses for Europe!

For the guy asking for brazilian music: look for words like samba, pagode, martinho da vila, zeca pagodinho, tom jobim, chico buarque, marisa monte. There are many others keywords you can find at google typing "mpb".
However, what you do not find here in pandora, you will find at edonkey.

Is it possible to use plug-ins to enhance the quality of sound on pandora?
I mean it sounds a bit hollow and echoy all by itself, probably because of my crappy computer. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.
Pandora rocks!

Squeezebox through home stereo is easy. I have an antique pc with a soundblaster auduio card. A pair of rca type audio cable and a stereo mini-plug adaptor straight into the auxiliary input. I din't have a cd burner, don't want one. I funnel through a sony stereo vcr if I want to tape for my own use. Exactly the same as it has always been. 6 hrs of tape at high enough quality for me. I am old enough to remember 45's. Quality is fine for me.

I know there will be ads incorporated in the future, but it sounds like the free version of Pandora is going to be, well, gone. I hope this isn't true because I use the free version
Posted by: Linkin_Crazee at May 6, 2006 03:25 PM
Nope, the free version of Pandora isn't going anywhere. It's just that for devices like the Squeezebox we can't run a full compliment of ads so we have to require a paid subscription.

If you gave Pandora the ability to be played on car stereos and receivers from satellite, I would buy it instantly- even if it were expensive. I would scrape for pennies in the couch to buy it if I had to.
This puts mainstream radio, XM, Sirius, and just about every other form of music broadcasting to shame. Eat your heart out, MTV. Finally- a radio that listens to us.
You are geniuses. The layout of your webpage and the way it interacts with the user is phenominal. I simply cannot say enough.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I connect to my home receivers from my wireless VIAO portable with an inexpensive FM retransmitter on the USB port. The FM retransmitter sounds better than direct audio, since it bypasses the lousy laptop audio processor. For 128 bit streaming, it doesn't seem worth it to pay big bucks for high-end audio. I suspect that all kinds of inexpensive USB audio amps will be coming out over the next couple of years to take advantage of the great 24-bit DACS now available.
For headphones, consider the Plantronics USB gaming headphones which cost about $80 and have excellent audio for the price -not quite as good as my Grados on a high quality receiver - but surprisingly good, and a lot cheaper than buying a high-end USB headphone amp.
Thanks to Pandora for a great product - and I like the new Backstage too. I can always block the adds with my firewall, but I'm more than willing to pay Pandora $35 bucks a year to keep this service going.

Posted by: lorenz at August 15, 2006 11:50 AM
Sweet. Pandora AND Squeezebox? What could go wrong? Even better: What could be better?
Posted by: Blaze at August 15, 2006 06:06 PM
My Tivo is already wired into my home network and plays my mp3, internet radio, Live365, video, photos, etc. Why would I want to invest more money in a Slim device that would cost more and do less??
I just need for somebody to write a Pandora hack that will allow it to play on my Tivo!

I would like to pile on to the idea of Pandora on Tivo. Pandora has jaded me from normal radio and I either listen to Pandora on my PC or my own collection through the Tivo music player for my stereos and TVs through out the house. I would very much like to use Pandora on the Tivos also to get more variety. AND WOULD PAY for an upgrade or no add subscription!

I only get a short portion of the song, then silence and then another short burst about 3 seconds of music then 5 seconds of silence. What can be done about this. Thank You

That is a sweet product!!
If I can sum up enough money between parents and school, I would absolutely love to get it. IT is a great idea that will help people discover this site.
Posted by: David at September 11, 2006 07:18 PM
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!
I know this is incrediably lame, but alot of my friends don't know about this, a great way to get it out there would be to make an embedded player for myspace....just a thought.

I just hope that this website will hold up for you all
Posted by: Quintavious Thomas at September 15, 2006 04:32 AM
I just love Pandora - play it whenever I am at PC at home and often at work - I can use more my more sedate stations at work, and whatever at home. My son in college told me about your site - we both use it a lot. We email each other with bands or songs we think each other would like. This has opened up a whole new world of music to me - whoever thought I'd love roots reggae, and roots blues/rock - never heard 'em on "regular" radio. Thanks. I am going to check out Squeezebox - already have the house wireless.

Hey! This I love Pandora and would love to listen to it in the living room. The only problem is that without paying the $36 a year, this device would suddenly become an expensive paperweight. Now, I know that $36 is not a lot, but as a college student I live from paycheck to paycheck. There are many times when I simply cannot afford any luxuries. I'm not saying just offer your hard-worked-for technology for nothing, but I would totally be into this even if you offered the streaming station over it for free but had audio commericals. Just my 2 cents... meanwhile, I'll keep streaming it into my living room with a very long stereo cable. :)
Posted by: Gozel at September 21, 2006 11:13 AM
So, what do the artists get out of Pandora? Is it merely the publicity that benefits them? Then, people will buy their CDs?
Posted by: Andrea at September 27, 2006 06:57 AM
I'm liking this, ok more than liking. I'm on an aircard and no clicks or pops, stops and starts-better than Serius or Delphi way loads. Bowie to Johnny Cash or Toots & the Maytals wahoo.

I think that Pandora radio should come out with a device that allows you to listen to Pandora inside your car. I think that would open alot of peoples eyes for Pandora.

I am so grateful for this service. I have told so many about it, and will continue to.
Where else can I have THE ROOTS, BILAL, MILES DAVIS and MARLEY Radio in one spot.
Life is good!! Pandora box is finally open - and I will not be closing it! Keep up the great work!!
One suggestion, assuming you capture the postal codes for a reason. You may wish to update your zip/postal code area - so those outside the US don't have to make up arbitrary zips to enjoy this good ish.
Thank you for increasing the music consciousness of the planet.
ONE!!

Posted by: Mario Martinez at November 9, 2006 12:54 PM
I use an inexpensive wireless speaker system plugged into the headphone jack. I have the speakers in the kitchen and living room. So I have to walk to the computer for a thumbs down or to check on an artist, I can use the exercise. Free is good.
I enjoy Pandora and all its features. Love being able to mix my "stations" and I've bought music I've heard from iTunes that I would never have known about. Thanks!

Pleaze make a great plugin for paying pandora users on MCE. It could be great using the remote just as those using the Squeezebox. I shouldn't have to have both in my livingroom - right?
Posted by: Sebastian at November 17, 2006 08:41 AM
Ditto the comment someone made about XM MCE and D-Link MediaCenter. The latter is not the greatest device but at least I can connect to any UpNP service, which Rhapsody and Napster are. Anyone have any tricks?
Posted by: Scott D. Nelson at November 18, 2006 08:36 PM

We've got last.fm on Pandora (http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/).
Can Pandora on Tivo be far behind?
Posted by: Dave at April 29, 2007 06:00 AM
I just started enjoying Pandora. Once I figured out the benefits, I immediately thought how cool this would be on my Tivo at home. The concept of themed stations is perfect for parties and entertaining. It has to happen! Please!
Posted by: Arnold at June 15, 2007 01:53 PM
I'd like to second (or N'th) the request for Tivo Pandora!
Posted by: Matt at June 29, 2007 01:35 PM
Thanks for the tip way above on Airfoil - I am in the midst of converting over to using my iMac for my primary stereo source (feeding it over wirelessly to my now very small stereo unit) and knew eventually I would find a way to get Pandora over the airwaves. That was the only KEY component I was missing. Since Pandora is the best thing since sliced bread...
Posted by: Paul Boos at July 19, 2007 07:05 AM
Is it possible to get pandora unto dlink media center? Will that ever be an option? I just purchased the dlink and can't afford to go get a squeezebox and I do use the photo sharing so not really an option to switch and no way the wife would allow me to have two! Let me know if there is a reason why it will never happen or if it is a possibility?
Posted by: Ken Hatley at July 25, 2007 12:55 PM
Just another shout for XBMC support. How cool would that be?!! You could enable the album artwork and even show ads on the tv screen, you guys should jump on that.
Posted by: J at August 10, 2007 01:22 PM
I love it! So much that I have been missing by trying to find music myself or by feeding the garbage mainstream FM radio stations out there or trying to listen to the repetitive satellite radios.
PLEASE find a way for this to work in the car! I will pay for a monthly subscription with a huge smile on my face!

Pandora for XBMC!!!, I'm sure we would all be willing to pay for this! Also..Pandora should join the CCIA (ccianet.org) and help combat the RIAA and MPAA lobbyists and lawyers!
