Update - The Columbus town hall is set! Here are the details:
WHEN: Monday, October 16th, 2006 at 7pm
WHERE: Milo Arts
617 East Third Avenue
Columbus, OH 43201
Please RSVP by sending an email to tour@pandora.com with "Columbus" in the subject line. Hope to see you there!
I'm currently planning an itinerary for my first tour stop in Ohio. Come mid-October, I'll be stopping in Columbus for a town hall meeting (tentatively at the Milo Arts studios), and would love the opportunity to meet Pandora student listeners at nearby Ohio State University. If you have any suggestions for appropriate venues on this or other college campuses (we're open to all suggestions!), whether at a music class or in the student union, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. Love spending time with students.
We love reading and responding to your feedback on the blog - the comments have been a treasure trove of great insights and guidance as we plan our visits. If you have a particular idea you want to discuss, or just want to get more involved, we're eager for help - just drop us an email at tour@pandora.com. Please include your location in the subject line of your message too. No idea is too big or small!

CINCINNNATI!!!
Awesome venues in cincy are
The Southgate House, Alchemize, The Mad Hatter, Bogarts, Madison Theater, and Taft Theatre.

you should check out cleveland, the birthplace of rock, then head through toledo and check out detroit, and if you have a chance swing by ann arbor and see what people like at university of michigan

I second the cincinnati comment! Found out about Pandora 2 days ago and already have 10 of my friends hooked!

Plenty of places in Columbus for all sizes of acts.
Little Brothers, The Basement, Newport (closet venue to campus!) and Alrosa Villa for those great small venues (by small, I mean bands that sound great in a closed area).
The LC is indoor/outdoor, very accomodating so a show can happen outside if it's nice, or moved indoors.
Germaine Amphitheatre is a large outdoor venue with two stages - this is where Ozzfest plays, as well as acts that draw a larger-then-average crowd, need two stages, or the artist loves a large outdoor area.
ValueCity Arena is a huge indoor venue - NIN played their the last time on tour.
Of course, there's more - Vets Memorial, a medium theatre venue (A Perfect Circle played there on their first tour) and the Arena District, where System Of A Down, Korn, and a number of other musicians have played.
When Kanye West came in town, they ordered a huge amount of wings from BW3's on campus. Raising Cane's gets love from Motley Crue. I can't leave out a number of pizza places either - Flying Pizza, Adriatico's, Planks, Steubenville...
Tons of venues, tons of food, and home to the Buckeyes.

Cincinnati would be awesome! My friends and I are all hooked on Pandora. We'd love to come.

Dear Pandora,
Thanks for planning a visit to the home of the Buckeyes. If you walk along High Street or the Oval you get countless flyers for bands to go see, and I've even been asked to sample some bands songs on their iPod. Your best place to congregate on Campus is going to be the Oval or Mirror Lake.
Some favorite bands in my circle are The Format, Kasabian, Radiohead, Athlete, Ben Harper, Kings of Leon. Some smaller acts I follow are 2 Skinny Dorks and G. Love.

The researchers seem to be deficient in 'Detroit' bands of the '70s. Could we get some of that very influential genre included please.
Posted by: Corey Gray at August 16, 2006 08:22 AM
Hey guys-
What can I say except that you knocked my socks off. I haven't been able to find many (make that ANY) websites that offer such an array of outstanding big band music and singers. I'm not very near Columbus but Cleveland is within easy reach and would love to get with you and your people. Thanks again

I am also from Cincinnati. I would love to see the MGP in Cincy. This is my first time to Pandora...and I have fallen in love. I am an avid music listener...with an ear for all kinds of music. I am also a musician. Pandora is truly something awesome! I've heard songs that I've never heard, as well as artists that I haven't heard, that I need to follow up on! I have been truly entertained today, and I will continue to come back, day after day!

Cleveland is really pretty in the fall - and besides the Rock Hall of Fame, we have many wonderful spots for the Pandora tour. Plus, there is a thriving local music scene (I don't remember any bands that came out of Columbus). Check us out!
Posted by: Eddie at August 19, 2006 08:35 PM
Check out Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Though you wouldn't expect it, we have an amazing local music scene. I am a dj for the school station, and I find new local bands to interview every week. Some bands to check out if you are in the area - Southeast Engine, Jake Householder, Nostra Nova, The Princes of Hollywood, and Red Dahlia.
Posted by: Danielle at August 20, 2006 09:45 PM
Come to cincy there is alot more fan base here...
Posted by: Jessica at August 22, 2006 11:28 AM
After you hit Columbus and Athens, work out a circuit to hit Kent State and Youngstown State, Bowling Green, Toledo, and Detroit.
Classical music lovers have to hear the Cleveland Orchestra in its own hall, stop by the Cleveland Institute of Music, and swing out to Oberlin for conservatory performances.
Check out www.pluggedincleveland.com for the clubs and acts.
You may want to arrange a visit to Cuyahoga Community College to learn about the Cleveland Jazzfest and Tri-C's approach to Rock and Roll pedagogy in conjunction with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
'Nuff said?

Hey another Clevelander here! If you guys come here that would be awesome. We have tons of places downtown!
One suggestion I would do to improve the stations would be if a song pops up on one station and we would prefer it on a different pre-made station to be able to switch the song over to the other station.
Keep up the good work and thanks!

I am in love with your site!! I just discovered it last week and I am recommending it to everyone!! I am very impressed with the selection you offer and am eager to purchase many cd's by the great new artists I've been introduced to thanks to you!! I am a native of the Cleveland area, but living in Cincinnati right now...I would love to see you come to Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincinnat...I'll make the trip to wherever. Thanks again!!
Posted by: Anna at August 29, 2006 07:41 AM
WOW,
I love your site. Thanks so much. I am sharing it with all my friends.
As for a place in my area for music, no clue this is a fairly rural area. But, let me please suggest Undo's resteraunt in St. Clairesville for dinner.
Play on.

Hey, I'm definitely agreeing with the Cleveland people. I suggest coming to Case Western Reserve University campus in University Circle. We're right next to the Cleveland Institutes of Music and Art too.
Posted by: David at August 30, 2006 01:55 PM
After Randy Newman "immortalized" Cleveland in song, to be forever known as the city whose river caught on fire, Pandora really could help us out here ... I'm sure there are hundreds of Cleveland "genes" in the Genome project already. Despite living in the Bay area now, my musical soul will always call Cleveland home ... stop by and you won't be disappointed ... Ian Hunter was spot on ... Cleveland ROCKS !

Hey, you and your team are doing a great job getting out there and getting all kinds of diffrent music, thats what i like to see, most online radio or radio-players only play what they want you to hear and your all about what we want to hear keep it up! Oh one more thing everybody left out Dayton Ohio! On the way to cinci you should stop by 5th street, its an old historic part called Oregon Distrist. Pretty good local scene. THANKS
Posted by: Stefan at August 31, 2006 01:59 PM
Yes...you should come to Cincinnati. I'm currently attending the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and I can't think of a better stop on the the Pandora tour!
Posted by: Rachel at August 31, 2006 03:52 PM
I third the Cincinnati comment!
We have alot of music scenes here at every time of the year.
Alot of Clevelanders come down here to get a start and vice versa.
We have Jazz,Rock,Pop,ect. And alot of comedians.
For local talent check out local pubs and local sites.
Citybeat has alot.

COME TO KENT!!!!

LOVE Pandora...am spreading the word, starting with my college freshman daughter at Cincinnati Christian University and her friends, and my son in high school. Anyway, if you are traveling on I-70 East when you stop at Columbus, take a quick detour on 68 towards Xenia for a few miles, and you will come to a restaurant/mini-golf/ice cream place called Young's Dairy. Some of the best ice cream you will ever have...you won't be sorry.

Another vote here for a visit to Cleveland!
Just 1 request:
Technically I don't know how difficult this would be, but, it would be nice to have an option on Pandora that a user could choose to screen out explicit lyrics. I LOVE Pandora, and I just think that would make it even better for those who don't want to hear explicit language.
Keep up the amazing work!!!

Come to Ohio University in Athens Ohio. The music culture here is flourishing. You will have a great turn out.
Posted by: Shannon at September 5, 2006 09:40 PM
Columbus is great for music!!! I saw a lot of larger venues listed, but some smaller ones include andyman's treehouse (has a tree growing in the center of the band room!), Carabar, Bourbon St., and Skully's. Please try to get some info on my fav. local band, MIRANDA SOUND, they've got three records out and are poised for nationwide distribution this winter. I would love to see/hear them on Pandora. You may also want to check out donewaiting.com, which is a great site for info on Columbus local music!! Thanks for being out there, I don't know how I'd get any work done without you guys!

We can't wait till you come to Columbus-if you need any help organizing anything just let me know!
Posted by: Melissa at September 11, 2006 06:51 AM
Cincinnati is boring and Cleveland is dirty (the river was so polluted it caught fire...)Columbus is central in Ohio and home to one of the biggest college/campus's in the world(?)You would get a much larger group of college-aged music addicts who would really help Pandora get more exposure. Hell, I don't even goto OSU, but there's five colleges besides OSU within this tiny city. I can't imagine how easy it would be to fill whatever venue you would choose down town. If all these Cleveland/Cincinnati junkies really appreciate Pandora, they'll make the hour drive here. No problems then. See ya soon!

I am located near Dayton, but distance to Columbus or Cincinnati is no obstacle--my enthusiasm for Pandora is boundless! However, I am not a college student, and I wonder whether you are interested in hearing from your aficionados in the 30+ (yeah, well, okay, 50+) age-range demographic as well. I suspect there are plenty of us (and we appear to be well represented in your musical offerings, too). If you happen to need a geezerette to get the word out (lead an appropriately focused tour, organize events, whatever), I'd be delighted to assist.

* Saturdays @ The Tropicana is also a very hot spot with large Salsa bands sunch as Tropicoso, Son Del Caribe & Salsa Caliente!

Hope to see you in Cleveland. The Rock Hall of Fame would be a good site. Or perhaps a more central site like Kent State University, which is more or less between Cleveland and Akron, would attract a larger crowd.
Posted by: Rich Deger at September 13, 2006 10:41 AM
You have to check out Kenyon College. It is super hip and I know people would really dig hearing about Pandora there. Get in touch with Andrew Irvin - irvina@kenyon.edu, he's a junior who basically runs Kenyon's music scene outside of the music department. Awesome. Thanks!

I can hook you up at Youngstown State University. I'm a professor there and friends with the head of Student Activities.

Plenty of great music has come out of Ohio in the R-N-R Era to be sure. Hard to believe no one has suggested Akron. Hometown of: Devo, Chrissie Hynde, James Ingram, The Black Keys, Tin Huey, The Waitresses, Jason Arthur, Tim Easton, Rubber City Rebels, David Allan Coe, Ruby & the Romantics, Howard Hewitt, the Bizarro's, Rachel Sweet, Liam Sternberg (Producer/Writer), 15-60-75 and many others.
Kent State and the University of Akron are large schools with many venues on and off campus. The Kent Stage hosts many national acts in an intimate setting. Akron has two fabulous theatres for great concert experiences...Civic Theatre and EJ Thomas Hall.

I vote Cleveland! I am much closer to Cleveland than I am to Cinci. The Rock Hall is amazing and there is so much to do in Cleveland!
Or you could even make a stop here in Akron! :D

Dayton has a great, very compact, music scene. Canal Street Tavern and the Oregon District. Unfortunately, our best local band, Homeland, is taking a break right now. However, I'd be happy to share their CD's with you in anticipation of their January return.
Posted by: Sean at September 19, 2006 01:02 PM
I've recommended Cleveland before for all the reasons the others mention - and also for the CMJ Music Fest that you were too busy to catch on your way from NYC to Second City in June!
So you want to hold audience with college students? Want seriously dedicated music fans? Looking for great insight into this lively, living, and legendary music scene? How about a small campus stop to balance a visit to mammoth OSU? I highly recommend a stop on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College in suburban Berea - home of WBWC. "The Sting" has been the home of the famous Summer Marathon Series (18 hours of one artist) for 25 years running - plus some great specialty programming. I bet Todd Richards, host of Running Late (runninglate.org) would love to interview you - free publicity!
(disclaimer: I am *not* affiliated with the station, the college, or Running Late)

hey you cant forget us down here in Brewster. Fairless Local School District has over 200 pandora users! come to Brewster-Rock-City!!! Check out Monroe Hall!!! Greenpool and Angelface have played there, among other bands . Greenpool totally rocks my socks. they are a local band and are very talented. Don't leave us out just cuz we arent on the map. we arent far from canton and massillon. Akron is a good place to hit too. Viva Pandora!!!!!

Cincinnati would love to have Pandora, we have some great venues here around UC, downtown and in N. KY. Hope to see you here! WNKU, our awesome public radio station can show you around.

Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland!
I agree with the above suggestion that you go to Baldwin Wallace College. They have a well respected music conservatory as well as a great radio station. Or try the Rock Hall. I have seen several roundtables & lectures there, and you would fit right in.

another vote for cleveland, in particular Case Western Reserve University... we have an amazing radio station and cleveland has much to do in the way of music as you've already read

Athens, OH is only a little over an hour away from Columbus, and a home to a variety of very, very talented local bands.
Check out: www.athensmusician.net for more info on local bands, venues and such.

CLEVELAND... For all of the reasons mentioned above. We have 4 good college radio stations with varried music and NO good commercial stations, Pandora is our "station" and your popularity is spreading like crazy. Cleveland State, Case Western, John Carroll and Baldwin Wallace Univ. are all within a 25 mile radius. Come to the Rock Hall or an adutorium in one of the colleges. Lake Erie is beautiful in the fall. Great surfing on a windy day, and our river hasn't burned since 1978. Now we have competitive rowing on the river. It's a cool place, check it out.

For an interesting expireiance on your drive through try Yellow Springs, Ohio. It's a small little town that is the home to Antioch college, and neat little shops. Stop by Peaches grill and listen to some music.

Posted by: Kiehl Jam at October 11, 2006 12:09 PM
hey we have some local bands that are really good where i live in ohio. i live in waynesville and my church held a rock fest there and a bunch of bands come out and tons of people.my friends and i listened to your radio before the concert was even held, well none of us even got cds from the band but one and there are only 3 songs recorded on a cd b/c it cost so much money. so we thought since you have just about everything on your radio that you would have these bands but sadly u do not. the names of the bands are. "The finer print", " Garrison Year", " southern Boundary", and " the city scene", i think it would be awesome if you could come to ohio or look them up on myspace and get recordings to put on your radio. these are awesome bands that need to be heard and get there stuff out there. thanks for reading hope to hear some more soon. - Brittany

I just wanted to let you that some of your biographical info on R&B singer Avant was wrong. I went to highschool with him, he may have been born in Chicago but Im possitive that he is from Cleveland, OH. I have known him for about 11 years. He also was apart of a tour which featured Charlie Wilson in the late summer of 2006, In which I was personally was invited. I am a huge fan of Pandora Radio!,I just want to know that i am getting real information. Any ? I can be contacted at: alwaysonmygrind@yahoo.com Thank you

Just wanted to suggest a band to add to the database. They are called Bancroft and are originally out of the Akron area. Very interesting sound. Their best album that I have heard is The Melaphobic Solution, and is, in my opinion, very well rounded. Easy to find online, or through local music stores.

Wow guys- you do feel good about yourselves right- I mean you've created the most intricately woven radio station I've ever heard of. I am, to say the least, relieved that my brain can be sated when my favorite song gets stuck on a repeat loop in my head (and then-yes-becomes not quite my favorite song anymore).
Here's a band that I suggest- out of Cincinnati- Satori
They have a myspace page-- hopefully this link works:
