Denver Meetup!

Update: We've just confirmed a town hall meeting for a November 14th town hall in Denver. Here are the details:
WHEN: Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 @ 7 PM
WHERE: Bug Theatre
3654 Navajo Street
venue website: http://www.bugtheatre.org
Please RSVP if you plan on coming by sending an email to tour@pandora.com with "Denver" in the subject line.

Gotta be at the top of the list for any touring band. Loved going here in my band days, and can't wait to get back. I'm currently planning the itinerary. looking like mid-November, I'll be stopping in both Boulder and Denver for town hall meetings for sure, and would love the opportunity to meet Pandora student listeners at UCB and DU, or any other schools too. Fond memories of the Fox Theatre and Herman's Hideaway . So many great destinations - could spend a month there! If you have any suggestions for venues or want to host a gathering, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I can't wait to visit!

We love reading and responding to your feedback on the blog - the comments have been a treasure trove of great insights and guidance as we plan our visits. If you have a particular idea you want to discuss, or just want to get more involved, we're eager for help - just drop us an email at tour@pandora.com. Please include your location in the subject line of your message too. No idea is too big or small!

Ahh...my own home state of Colorado. I could go on and on, but in Denver, the two I'd be sure to check what's going on at the Marquis (see www.sodajerkpresents.com/) and the Bluebird. The Bluebird is THE place to stop. You may want to see Hi-Dive and Lion's Lair (see www.nipp.com/), and they definitely host more locals than the first two. And if you feel like a romp and checking out a teen center: www.lifespot.org Tiny venue, but some great shows.
We've got a pretty diverse scene, but I've been noticing some more disco punk and dance/post-hardcore acts lately. Keep an eye out for that.

Can't wait until you make it here!

Well, just found your site mentioned in the local paper this weekend. This seems groundbreaking to me and so fantastic. I have been remembering how wonderful it WAS and sometimes still is to listen to radio - where you are surprised and energized by what you hear...I have always looked to the DJ to bring up and out the best in music. Look forward to your Denver visit. Just saw the James Gang play at Red Rocks - what a treat. The Denver area has some really great spots to hear live music.

Godspeed in all that you endeavor. And thank you for your wonderful project!

Thankful and impressed,

Sue

You are an absolute genius. What a phenomenally great idea. I have really loved exploring your site.

While in Denver, be sure to check out Swallow Hill. It is one of the only venues that supports folk music - some would say a dying musical form.

Denver is actually a great music town. Let me know if you are going to gather users at any point.

Thanks for making the world a better place. Peace, Gail.

Found this site in the Sunday paper, and that station you created for Gorillaz ROCKS!!!

Keep up the awesome work!

Great site so far...However I can't get Pandors to stay online while I'm working on another site.. I can listen to radio music on ITunes, Rhapsody, etc. I'm using Firefox.. As usual, there are no answers on your FAQ section ..So what's the solution??

Posted by: lew bradford at August 14, 2006 02:48 PM

This is the greatest thing ever especially for an old lady that has lived in the serious boonies of Colorado and been radio deprived for thirty years. What a magnificent service. I run my stations at home, I run them at work ...and I cannot wait until another thought comes to mind and I can create a new one. Even though the children have moved to civilization, they are equally enthralled and my husband, that does not much care for music written after about 1800 is upstairs with his headphones on. I can not say enough good things. If you ever get to northwest Colorado, Meeker in particular, ask anyone where to find Libby and I will personally cheer you on.
Thank you again.

Posted by: Libby at August 14, 2006 04:24 PM

Thank you for a great radio idea. I have gotten all of my friends hooked on Pandora radio. Some good places to hit up are cervante's (which has live music every night) at 27th and Welton, or dance-music wise Vinyl is a good place to go (at 11th and Broadway). Don't know much about lodging, but good luck and hope to see you when you swing through!

Thanks!
Lauren

hey tim, their are really great venues in colorado, hi, i'm rick 4rom ft. collins, justpost it where your gonna be, and i will be their, i love what pandora has going on, i can really see it's future, play on, and grow on, best of luck!

Posted by: rick at August 15, 2006 02:36 PM

You guys should put Meese, a great local Denver band, on your site. They are a really cool Electronic/Rock band that kind of sound like a mixture of Coldplay, Maroon 5, and sometimes the Postal Service. They are opening for The Fray in September at Red Rocks, which is a big deal considering they've only been a band for about a year and a half!

Anyways, I love the site! Keep it up!

Two wonderful musicians here in Colorado:

Lannie Garrett and Nina Storey

Posted by: Pam at August 24, 2006 11:08 AM

is there a way to link pandora to myspace?
you all do a great job... would be great to spread the word

Posted by: Dee at September 5, 2006 12:12 AM

Hey! I'm a music student at UNC in Greeley, CO. I think you guys have the best idea ever created! Musicians everywhere should be kissing your feet. I know Greeley isn't up there on the "stop here" list, but if you could stop somewhere in Northern Colorado, even at CSU Ft. Collins that would be awesome--cuz then all us UNC, CSU, and UWYO peeps could go. They have a cool venue called Aggie Theater or the campus Lincoln theater in Ft. Collins that you might check out. In Greeley we have the Budweiser event center, the UCCC, Langworthy theater, and we have a small outdoor garden theater on campus. Thanks for your time! ~Kelly

Posted by: Kelly Meehleis at September 6, 2006 04:50 PM

you guys should check out dulcinea's 100th monkey (washington & colfax) live music every night..jam bands, jazz and such. there's also a really talented local instrumental band downtied that you MUST see. lookin forward to your trip here! thanks for an amazing site!!

Posted by: amy at September 8, 2006 02:53 PM

I've written before on the last trip that took you through Chicago.
I live and work in Boulder and have seen music in a bunch of funky places all over Colorado.

I could put you in touch with folks at the Fox if you don't already have a connection with them. Plus we have a satellite office of the Onion here in Boulder who may be interested in a co-sponsored event. I also have space I may be able to secure for a tour hall type event if neeed. Let me know.

Bands to Check out
Breaking and Entering, Double Parked, Polytoxic, The Motet

Venues to check out
Boulder - Fox, Trios, Southern Sun and/or Mountain Sun

NEAR BOULDER
Lyons - Planet Bluegrass - They may be closed for the winter but this is THE premier outdoor music venue in the country IMO. Very chill and small town, but world class artists end up performing here.

Denver
Bluebird, Gothic, Dulcinea's, Quixote's

Ft Collins
Aggie Theater, New Belgium Brewing Company (sometimes has something worth while)

NEAR FT COLLINS
Mishawaka - great outdoor venue in a canyon... beautiful and funky

Keystone (in the mountains just off of i-70 if you are heading east or west through CO to Utah)
The Goat

Vail
8150

Get in touch if you have questions or to chat!

Hi Tim!
If you drive through on 70 you might want to stop in Glenwood Springs and visit the hot springs. I would also love to do a program for the library (I'm the technology person for our system - and am always telling people about Pandora). There is also a GREAT community college here - Colorado Mountain College and they might want to do a program. Let me know if I can help.

I would like to second the Fort Collins idea. While I love your site and the music it has to share I have a very busy schedule and don't know if I could necessarily make it down to Denver. I know myself and all the friends I have that have gotten hooked on your site would love to be able to attend, so it's something to consider. Thanks so much for the making your idea a reality.

Sincerely, Pandora listener/radio non-listener,

Shannon

You definitely want to check out Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots. They are easily the most impressive local band I have heard. Munly is intensely creative sometimes bordering on a little scary. The girls on the violin are awesome, and their drummer Jeff is sick. I guess if you had to classify them, they might be PsychoGrass? Definitely do a google search on them and open their myspace site. I'm a Panic fan, so this isn't necessarily my style of music, but I will say that it's probably the best band in Denver. Another band that I have been recently impressed by is Capricorn. They haven't done a record but they should. I don't think they have anything scheduled for November, but let me know the dates you'll be here and I'll find out. Check out Munly and let me know what you think.

Denver's cool but Boulder is where you might want to think about either the Fox Theatre or the Boulder Theater.

Playing CU campus could be really BIG!

This is the very best music service on the net...I stream all day with just 2 stations, I live in Denver but check out Dallas band...
Spoonfed Tribe...definately worth the look...be safe in your travels

Posted by: Michael at September 27, 2006 10:53 AM

I third or fourth the nomination for a stop in Northern Colorado. Greeley or Fort Collins would be sweet.

Posted by: Chris at September 29, 2006 05:35 PM

All of the above are definitely worth checking into.
I suggest the DNote in Old Town Arvada. It's a great little hot spot in the burbs but close to I70 and Denver. They have awesome gourmet pizza, live music nightly, great staff, innovative, progressive owners, and nice ambiance. They would love to have you! www.dnote.us
Walnut Room has great sound. Bluebird Theatre is really cool. Swallow Hill definitely. Appaloosa Grill is fun. I'll keep you posted with more as they come to mind.
Local bands- The Reals, Oakhurst, John Common, Born in the Flood, Zebra Junction. Again, I'll keep you posted.

Ft Collins is a must. I think most people forget the college towns. There is a great local band called Matson Jones. They signed earlier this year to Sympathy for the Record Industry. In Denver, Definitely see Munly or Slim Cessna. The larimer lounge has some great shows too. Tons of really good local music.

Posted by: DE at October 1, 2006 06:37 PM

Have been a fan for 6 months and going strong. Pass it along all the time. As for rural CO. Glenwood Springs to Aspen is a great place to be. In aspen is the Belly Up as a premier music venue. Michael Goldberg had the place dialed. KDNK in Carbondale would be worth a stop for an interview as they are a cutting edge community radio station with transmitters all over the western slope. They play a variety of music in a community that focuses on Music, Lifestyle, Community and Energy awarness. They would be very receptable to you ideas, as would this whole valley.

Thanks for keeping it real!

I'm going to also chime in for Fort Collins. Colorado has a progressive music scene that I have been getting more involved with in the past year.

Avogadro's Number is a smaller venue, if you can call it a venue, and they have a restaurant, bar and a nice spot to play music. Melissa Ferrick said Avo's was one of the best stops on her last tour and would definitely be back. It's humble but chock full of creativity, inspiration and grass roots music.

Posted by: Chrysta at October 2, 2006 04:52 PM

Just wanted to echo what everyone has been saying. The Music Genome Project is fantastic - even my I-Banking friends are sitting there with headphones on, rocking out to Pandora while they make their models. So, thank you for making the world a better place. I see you are expanding your foreign music -- how about the classical side?

As for Colorado, you will be missing out if you ignore the Fort Collins area. Herman's is always a good bet in Denver, but you might want to check out some of the venues on Colfax.

Thanks again!

I apologize for not having a suggestion of where to go during your visit here. All my favorite venues are either gone or are different now, no I'm not old just 26.
However, I do have suggestions on who to look up. One would be Fiction 8, they have a few new singles coming out. They're more or less industiral.
The other is DJ Michael D. He used to play at Club Matrixx in Ft. Collins and do special bookings in Denver. He does progressive trance and I know he is coming out with a couple new singles soon.
I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Pandora is a great! I love the idea that there is 400 attributes to describe songs. When coming to Colorado, no better place to hit a music scene then Denver. Though Colorado is known for wide variety of local music, Denver has tons of great venues. You guys should do a presentation at Auraria Campus(downtown Denver). That campus is huge and I know tons of pandora listeners would attend.

Posted by: Jeremy at October 11, 2006 10:24 PM

This is the best site ever. A friend turned me on and I'm so thankful. I'm spreading the word and definately support this amazing site. Thank you allowing me to go back in time.

Keep it real!

In Colorado, look for Set Forth. They're a new local band, but pretty good! Also, the Antics might still be together- I'm not sure. They're out of Ft. Collins?

Posted by: Theresa at October 15, 2006 04:53 PM

Great to hear you will be in the Denver area. Love your website and the choices it gives the listener. You may want to contact the local Jazz station KUVO (www.kuvo.org) to give you some air time to get your message out all over Colorado and the world. Looking forward to finding out where exactly you will land while you tour through Colorado. Thanks again.

One band I'd love to expose is Dread Pirate Roberts. Got the chance to see thier live show a few months back, and they have an excellent stage precence, and a funkieness that I haven't heard anywhere.

Posted by: Dylan at October 17, 2006 08:23 PM

Just signed up with Pandora at the weekend, already emailed to a friend back in the UK so maybe you'll hear from that part of the world... technology is amazing..share it!!!!!
When in Denver area, the best place to hear live music is without doubt The Boulder Theater is numero uno, Fox is not too bad... the use of the space there is a little confused, sound is fair..
Pandora...
what a great idea..thanks..
Donaldo.
p.s. While in Boulder town, The Mountain Sun is good for music, good for eats, and very excellent for beer...

Posted by: Donald Reilly at October 23, 2006 01:24 PM

The Little Bear in Evergreen just west of Denver, Co.is a must stop.

Posted by: bob at October 25, 2006 08:55 PM

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Sounds like Ft Collins is a must see. I'm not sure that I'll have time on this trip, but will definitely come back. I'm really looking forward to CO - my fondest memories of touring are from this state. Incredible support from music lovers. Our first gig was t-ride, the next day we were in Steamboat and 200 people showed up for the show, all from word of mouth from the night before. There's simply no other place in the country that would happen... Hope I get to see some snow...

See you soon. Tim (Founder)

I just got the e-mail about the tour coming to Denver. I haven't been reading the blog, so I didn't know about the tour. You're probably already booked up, but it would be cool to have you up on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus.

T-
Sorry that we just missed you on our recent trip to Colo. Would've loved to buy you a beer at Herman's and talk about our both playing there long ago. Not sure where you are staying, but Le Central at 8th and Lincoln (just north of Herman's after Broadway merges with Lincoln) is a great place for an inexpensive but fulfilling French lunch or dinner. If downtown, do not miss Wynkoop Brewing Company, the original Denver brewpub. For local music, I think others have mentioned Twist & Shout on Evans - I second the rec. Have fun!

The sex split on your station is so disappointing. If I search "Dave Matthews" I get 99% male artists, if I create a station based on Sarah McLachlan, I get 100% female artists. Music can be similar AND be created/performed by both men and women!

Hey!!! I'm the other state. I've been listen to pandora in class for a year and a half and I was the only one listening. Until I told a classmate I hadn't heard some of this music since I was in high school. Then she signed up and others in class join. Now, still listening ..........

I dont know how easy it would be but maybe it would be possible in the future to create a background setting or something to that nature. Thanks again for listining and for the GREAT GREAT SITE.

Tim -
I just read your article in "Inc." Magazine on a flight from Denver to Albany and I just want to give you major kudos for all of your efforts.

I have been working in corporate finance since graduating in 2003 and oh how I wish I could be part of something like Pandora because it beats the crap out of this, but alas, I think I got a B- in music theory :(
I love Pandora so much, it's such a fantastic compliment to all of the other music channels out there and there's definitely a niche for it.

I'm amazed about how many people don't know it exists yet! When I speak of it,I often hear "It's FREE????" followed by a "Wow, that's really something I need to check out at work, at home, etc.!"

Finally, I think your addition of Pandora to Facebook was a fantastic move. I just invited about 30 users and I'll let you know how it catches on...

We need to get Pandora to sponsor local music events around here (Fillmore, Denver; Fox theater, Boulder, etc.) For some reason I could just see myself at the Wilco concert with "Wilco Radio" playing on the projector while the band is setting up or in an intermission... (of course, you would have to work out not having their music played at their own show).
Maybe even a tent at the X-Games for all the EMO pUNkers out there! The sky is truly the limit for Pandora.

I firmly believe Denver and the general foothill region has such a booming music scene and receptive audience and we love fantastic businesses that DON'T SELL THEIR SOUL TO .

Best of Luck.
-Jim
