Great Places To See Live Music: Red Rocks Amphitheatre

download

RedRocks200x200.jpg When you think of outdoor music venues, and think of gorgeous natural settings, the first that may come to mind is the majestic splendor of Red Rocks. This amphitheatre, just west of Denver, helped launch the career of U2, and was a favorite stop for bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. This summer, the amphitheatre hosted more concerts than ever before, ranging from rock and folk to classical and jazz. Our camera crew visited Red Rocks and was stunned -- to the point of speechlessness, which is rare for us -- by both the natural beauty and the natural acoustics.

A special thank you to the bands who let us show excerpts
from their live performances: Leftover Salmon, Augustana
and the John Butler Trio.

Being born and raised in Denver and having seen countless shows at Red Rocks, I have to agree, it is the best venue period.

One thing that wasn't touched on in the video is that Pollstar, renamed their Best Small Outdoor Venue award the "The Red Rocks Award" because Red Rocks had won it every single year prior to that. No other venue until recently The Gorge in Washington had won a best outdoor venue award.

If you have never been to Red Rocks, you MUST come here sometime. Why do you think bands like Dave Matthews and other have put out so many "Live at Red Rocks" cds.

I would love to hear this with my new iPhone . I did the apptapps very cool. However, for ppl like myself when I hear Steve Jobs say " works just like the Internet" and not scaled down version well I jumped on this phone but guess what no real music streming which last time I checked was an Internet thing. So I'm going to sue just kidding but how long will I have to wait to hear you. Love to hear ya, Mikey C

I have had an opportunity to do more than just listen to music at "The Rocks", too. Takeing in the show while occassionally glaring at the beauty of the sur-real surroundings is what makes the day worth the MONSTER WALK UP & DOWN "The Rocks".

I first visited Red Rocks during the 60's when i was 12, and remember being able to stand on the stage, sing moderately, and be heard clearly by my parents all the way to the back.

My husband and I have enjoyed concerts there since then, and we even have "I got rained on at the Rocks" ponchos to show for it! It is a phenomenal place to hear a concert, and the people-watching is spectacular as well.

Thanks, guys! I hope you had at least one-tenth the amount of enjoyment watching this video that we had making it. Can't wait to return to Colorado someday.

Nice work, Kevin and Pandora! Red Rocks is truly a magical place, and I've been priviledged to experience many shows here over the last three decades. There is an indescribable vibe that energizes performers and charges the crowd. I've yet to see a 'bad' show at Red Rocks.

Also worth noting is the newly added visitor center which is actually imbedded in the rocks underneath the back part of the amphitheater. There is a chronology of all the acts that have played Red Rocks over the years, along with some rotating memorabilia displays and an outdoor restaurant.

Definately worth a visit if you happen to be nearby.

I saw the Fray at Red Rocks, and it was amazing. Since they are from Colorado, the vibe with them and the whole audience was very personal and amazing. The lead singer even anounced his grandfather's wedding, introducing his family that was sitting in the crowd to the audience. The natural beauty of Red Rocks reallt does make both the performers and fans get more into the music than at any other venue Iv'e been to.

Awesome combination of sight and sound. Colo was always good about building stuff into the mts instead of destroying the mt. Would love to see and play there even if only goofing around. Great show.

Is there any way to save the music as you play on the computer????

Having lived in Denver for several years I was fortunate enough to see several shows at Red Rocks. The most memorable being Miles Davis.... The Man actually "blew colors" out of His horn that night. All praises to Red Rocks, keep up the good work.
Peace

Neal Young Performed at Red Rock, the concert was shown live on Direct TV Satilite Service. I would like to purchase a copy of that concert or a CD of the Concert if one is avalable. Pleas send any information to C.Sorell@msn.com.

Thankyou
