Great Places To See Live Music: Buddy Guy's Legends
|
First we were excited because we heard that Buddy Guy's Legends was going to host a show by John Primer, who played guitar with Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters back in the late '70s and early '80s. Little did we know that we would show up with camera in hand, and Buddy Guy himself would jump up on stage and start singing with Primer and his band. My, my, my. Amazing. Check out some real-deal, soulful Chicago blues. |

I'm really likin' this series (though I was hoping for a bit more "dork" in this one)!

wow, thank you for the prompt reply! this is the best, easiest, most intuitive web-site i've ever seen. the picture freezes. i manipulate the icon that shows the progress of the video forward and it snaps back to where stopped.i'm no computer expert so.... and yes it's the podcast. thanks again.

Great job, all of Pandoras Pod casts have really great content. It's rare to see and hear stuff that is so driven strictly by the music.

go for it

Great video. Buddy Guy is one of my all-time favorite live performers. Next time I'm in the windy city I'll definitely stop by his place. Also thank you for setting the bar high for video production quality. Let me just say that ad-supported content is always a gamble for the viewer (hey I only have so much time on this planet) but you seem to have found a "sweet spot" for putting it all together. I'll be back!

Thanks, guys! And yes, absolutely hit Buddy Guy's place next time you're in Chicago. We had a fantastic time there. Amazing, amazing music.
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. More to come.

Hey there, glad that Pandora is getting in on the podcast wave. I love your music service.
A couple notes on the "Great PLaces to See Live Music" series.
A) shouldn't it be "Great places to HEAR live music?!"
B) the written synopsis next to the Buddy Guy's Legend' podcast says you saw (implied: covered) a show by John Primer and that then, Buddy Guy Himself jumped onstage and played!
Ergo, I think I'm about to watch some awesome footage of said concert! BUT-- there is no such footage, only much talking *about* the place by what seems to be the stage manager and a bit by a tech dork. Unfair advertising. Plus the footage showed so dark onscreen, it was hard to see/ feel what the place is really like inside. The anecdotes by the interviewees were nice, I just would like to have seen the show I was promised.
C) if you want a REALLY authentic blues joint in Chicago, go to The Green Mill. Any Chicago old-timer can tell you where it is. We saw the best damn show-- by local unknowns-- there that I've ever heard in my life, ten years ago. I hope it's still open.
Keep it up, guys, I'm looking forward to more!
All comments are meant to be helpful-- can't help it, I'm a perfectionist.
All the best,
Sarah

I wasn't able to download the last two podcast. Please advise. Could it be the way the library computers are set up because they also don't let you get you tube. I am bummed.

Hi, Sunshine/Rainbow,
Hmm... if that computer can't watch videos on YouTube, then you probably won't be able to watch these, as both are Flash video files. Can you download the MPEG-4 version instead, perhaps?
Hi, Sarah,
Thanks for your comments. As for "Great Places To See Live Music" vs. "Great Places To Hear Live Music"... I usually say "I'm going to go see Van Halen in December," not "I'm going to hear Van Halen in December." Maybe it's just me, but I think of seeing live music, not just hearing it.
And yeah, these shows are about the Great Places, not just about showing the concert footage. Sorry if you thought we were going to show a whole John Primer concert, but my goal was really to give you a sense of the place. There are clips of Buddy Guy with Primer's band in there, but that wasn't the focus of the video.
If you would like to watch a Buddy Guy concert film, I highly recommend the second DVD listed here:

The Green Mill is fantastic, I agree. But Buddy Guy's Legends is really an amazing venue as well. Chicago is fortunate to have so many great clubs where people can see good blues being played live.
