Artist Debuts

The Madden BrothersScreen Shot 2014-07-21 at 8.47.19 AM

The Madden Brothers are a new project featuring brothers Joel and Benji Madden, the founding members of the rock band Good Charlotte. Their side project began in 2011 as a way for them to branch away from punk/rock to an “upbeat, sunny pop-rock” sound. They have teamed with producer Pharrell Williams and released their first single “We Are Done” from their upcoming debut studio album, Greetings From California to be released in September.

Shawn Mendes

Check out this 15 year-old singer-songwriter from Toronto who became an overnight Vine sensation with his six-second cover of Justin Beiber’s “As Long As You Love Me”. It received 10,000 likes within hours of its debut last August and is now liked at well over 2.5 million. This phenomenon lead to a recording contract with Island Records and the debut of an original composition. “Life Of The Party” advances his upcoming EP later this summer. Not only that, he is also preparing to go on tour with Austin Mahone!

Ros Sereysothea

First brought to light for Western audiences by the highly regarded Cambodian Rocks cassette, Ros Sereysothea was one of Cambodia’s most popular singers prior to the Khmer Rouge’s takeover of the country, but sadly she disappeared during those tumultuous years. Her beautiful idiosyncratic voice seems ghostly on the surf rock-influenced recordings that have surfaced the aforementioned cassette, as well as other compilations of Cambodian ’70s “psych” music. Her most notable legacy is perhaps as a major influence on Dengue Fever, who covers several songs of hers. Check out “Chnam Oun Dop-Pram Muy (I’m 16)!”

The Dig (NYC)

If you’ve ever wished that you could understand what that guy from Sigur Ros was singing about, The Dig is for you. Over shimmering dream pop, the band’s singer croons cohesive lyrics in an androgynous falsetto. It’s not shoegazing and it’s not newgazing. But it sure is pretty.

Roisin MurphyMi Senti

After a seven year absence since her last full-length album, Overpowered, he latest release from the ex-Moloko singer Roisin Murphy finds her dabbling in classic ‘60s and ‘70s Italian pop music. The EP features interpretations of popular songs from the era like “Pensiero Stupendo,”“Ancora Ancora Ancora” and “La Gatta;” incorporating her well-known electronic expertise and Giorgio Moroder-inspired synth influence.

Adrian BelewYoung Lions

Better known as the guitarist and frontman of the prog rock group King Crimson, in addition to working as a session and touring musician with artists like David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads and Nine Inch Nails; Adrian Belew has also released fifteen studio albums, including 1990’s Young Lions, revered by many critics as his best.
