New Music

SizzlaBorn A King

The latest album from the internationally renowned Jamaican artist that balances traditional roots reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and global beats. The title track “Born A King” brings roots riddim with electronic samples with the help of Australian heavyweight reggae and hip-hop producer Mista Savona.

Sturgill SimpsonMetamodern Sounds In Country Music

With his sophomore album Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, Simpson forgoes the genre’s usual themes of beer and trucks for more heady lyrics. Even the title of the album’s first single “Turtles All The Way Down” is a reference to a Stephen Hawking used metaphor that jokingly describes the circular cause and consequence of the infinite regress problem in cosmology. Simpson also turns When In Rome’s 1988 electro-pop single “The Promise” into a powerfully weepy tear-in-your-beer country ballad.

Damon AlbarnEverScreen Shot 2014-05-23 at 4.39.32 PMyday Robots

This is the solo debut from the Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind. Described by Albarn as his “most personal record,”the album features guest appearances by Brian Eno, Bat For Lashes‘ Natasha Khan and a full gospel choir. Robots also drawsinfluences from dub, Caribbean, African and classical music.

Genre Station

Party De Marquesina

Literally translating to “carport party,” Party de Marquesina is a throwback to the ‘80s and ‘90s homespun get-togethers that were once commonplace in Puerto Rico; amongst the now 30-to-40-something island revelers. The playlists consisted of the many musical influences that were circulating around during that era including New Wave, Pop Rock, Euro Dance, one-off Latin Pop hits, early Reggae en Español, Salsa Romántica, Merengue and other such trending fads of the time. Intrigued?
