Pandora’s music analysts create our Workout genre stations by filtering songs in the Music Genome Project by tempo and intensity to maintain the optimum BPM (beats per minute) range for a variety of workouts. Here is a quick guide at how we find the perfect music for any physical activity:

  • Cardio Stations, BPM Range: 105-150
  • Endurance Stations, BPM Range: 110-140
  • Fitness Stations, BPM Range: 90-130
  • Strength Training, BPM Range 75-115

  1. This is a really helpful list. I wish Pop and Hip Hop Power workout didn’t contain albums with explicit lyrics, but a couple of the others you list here seem like good alternatives. Can’t wait to try them out tomorrow!

  2. Am trying out these playlists as of today…one only observation, I’d like to be able to look up the different workout playlist inside Pandora and not having to netpick it.

  3. Would love to be able to create a station based on BPM, where all songs are within a much smaller range. With me for example, about 77 BPM matches my running stride perfectly; anything from 74-79 BPM (or 154-160, as it doesn’t matter if it’s doubled) provides the perfect rhythm for running. These ranges are too wide. Surely BPM is one of the attributes Pandora stores for each track.

  4. YES YES, for gosh sakes, add a BPM / tempo filter so we can control our own stations! Why on earth has this not been done already? Please hurry before spotify drinks your milkshake.
