SXSW, Here We Come…

Every March, music aficionados and fans alike head to Austin, Texas for the renowned SXSW festival and it’s only a natural fit for Pandora to be there too. We are excited that, for the first time ever, we will have an official presence at the festival.

Because Pandora enriches the lives of music fans by helping them discover and rediscover music they love, we are bringing that concept to life with the Pandora Discovery Den. The Pandora Discovery Den will be hosted at the legendary Austin venue Antone’s from Tuesday, March 13 through Friday, March 16.

We will treat attendees to a variety of live musical performances, spanning from Rock to Hip Hop to Americana, including Theophilus London, WALK THE MOON, Gary Clark Jr and Bahamas. Attendees will also have the chance to win daily raffles with limited-edition items, participate in hands-on technology demos and much more!

Our founder, Tim Westergren, will kick-off the Discovery Den on March 13th at 5 p.m. with a happy hour DJ event, followed by performances by We Are Augustines and Band of Skulls at 8 p.m. Daytime programming will begin daily at 12:30 p.m.

Additionally, Tim will be giving a couple presentations at the Austin Convention Center that SXSW attendees can’t miss! On March 13th (3:30 – 4:30 p.m.), he will be discussing “The Evolving Role of Radio” and Pandora’s role in that transition. Then, on Tuesday, March 14th (5 – 6 p.m.), for the first time publicly, he will conduct a live music DNA Analysis and showcase how the Music Genome Project works.

And, of course, don’t forget to check out our live Twitter feed from SXSW (@Pandora_radio) and to watch for the latest updates by following hashtag: #PandoraATX.

Admission to the Pandora Discovery Den is free with an advance RSVP (visit http://www.pandora.com/pandoraATX for complete line-ups); SXSW badges will also be honored at the door. If you’re headed to Austin, we hope to see you there!

  1. Hey Pandora–STAY STRONG. I know about your stock price and have read many of the negative prognostications. But you guys are doing an awesome job of gaining share. I pay my $36/year and would gladly chunk out more. I know I’m not alone. And for the freemium subscribers, I’m sure you could add 2 minutes of ads per hour (MAX) and it wouldn’t be too big a deal. Bottom line, I know you know what you’re doing. Keep investing in the service. Keep adding pre-built channels. Keep working on improving the quality of streams on mobile, etc. And most of all, STAY STRONG. Oh, and if you have any employees whining about the price of their options, tell them to…stop whining. THX

  2. I just hope some day this company spreads to the world, because this business model allows music lovers like me to have the joy to explore new songs and artists through this site affordably.

  3. Yes, hang in there. I heard about the stock price today also. I paid my 36 a few days ago even though I know it’s supposed to be free now. But starting last night on my Xoom it won’t run, it just keeps saying “Loading….”. I’ve done a complete reboot couple of times but still no workie. I don’t see anyone else having problems when I do a search for “Pandora not working” so I guess it’s just me…hopefully. We’ll see what happens in the next 24 to 48 hours.
    Once again, hang in there.

  4. Pandora has been so influential in bringing new music to listeners and connecting new bands with potential listeners, it’s only logical that they should be apart of something like this. Congrats and keep up the great work!

  5. Wow, this sounds amazing. I wish I could be there to experience SXSW! I’m very excited that Pandora is finally recognized as an important asset to the music community. I know that I love it and I would be lost without it. Good luck Tim, I hope you guys put on an awesome show!

  6. Woo Hoo!! Finally! I’ve been making SXSW playlists or searching out others’ on Pandora for some time now. So! Where are teh SXSW Pandora Radio Stations? Suggested artists to add to our playlists? Live stream even?!
Let’s all go (virtually) to Austin! :0)

  7. We used to call it “South by So What.” when I lived in Austin. It’s a freaking madhouse there during those few days. parking lot rates go up from $5 to $30+. Emo kids begging club owners to play on the roof, as if that will get them attention lol. Anyways, sadly I miss the chaos. Just be prepared if you go for a big hassle with parking and getting around.

  8. Just watched the trilaer and I have to disagree that 30, 40, 50 years ago people weren’t creating. Are you kidding? Crafters have been creating for centuries, tinkerers have been making things in their garages for as long as there have been garages, and musicians have been plucking away at their instruments since before recorded history.I see it as highly arrogant for someone to declare that NOW everyone is finally being creative. Perhaps it’s easier to see/access everyone’s creativity now, but it has always been there. It makes me wonder if those people come from really boring families or communities.

  9. I just don’t get why we have to use an IP changer program just to check out you’re site, why even advertize on facebook when we can’t see what you do because of country blocks,e t c.

  10. Tim,
Love the stations and I just paid my second year’s subscription. Keep it coming!
Just a note that the link as it stands in your blog post doesn’t bring a user to the videos. Instead, putting (without a trailing slash) goes to the videos by going to .

  11. Pandora I really enjoy the service you provide. All these months when I have been working on a fitness boot camp your music keeps me going and keeps the time moving. Keep up the great work.

  12. Hi, great features artists. Watched all the clips and really different to what you see on other sites. Hope the show went well.

  13. Oh yeah, it is again time to rock on with SXSW festival. For many years it has made me go leaps and bound and has always rekindled my love for music.
