“P”

We crossed a milestone at Pandora today: this morning we began trading as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol “P.”

It’s a very proud moment for all of us, and we’ve all paused for a moment to take it all in. A number of us were on Wall Street to witness the opening day, and we’ve celebrated the moment with our teams all across the country. It’s really something to see people actually start to buy stock in your company. Pretty cool!

Most importantly though, this represents an encouraging sign about our hopes for building an enduring and impactful company. “Going public” is really a means to an end. It allows us to do even more of what we’ve been doing and to bring even more resources to bear on our mission of enabling people to enjoy music they know and discover music they love… and to help musicians find their audiences and build careers. Music is continuing to go through a major transformation – and no more so than in radio as it shifts from a broadcast world to unicast, personalized radio. We have a rare opportunity in front of us to influence the way people connect with music and to create a healthy music industry – one that is more inclusive of working artists and more expansive in the listening audience it serves. It’s an ambitious goal, but we think it’s an important one, and an achievable one.

We have many, many people to thank for our progress so far: investors who gave us the resources to get started; great advertisers and forward-thinking agencies who have recognized Pandora’s potential and embraced our platform in these early days; an amazing group of business partners – from car companies to consumer electronics to smartphone manufacturers for building so many great devices to deliver Pandora anytime/anywhere (and to the amazing networks that make that possible); labels and artists who continue to send us fantastic records everyday across hundreds of genres; and of course to our listeners who have been the lifeblood of Pandora, spreading the word about our service to friends and providing a nonstop stream of invaluable feedback. Not a day goes by that we aren’t grateful for every part of this ecosystem, of which we are now a part.

So we look forward with great anticipation, ambition and a healthy dose of humility to the years ahead. It’s a wonderfully exciting time and we’re very thankful to have this opportunity.

Now, back to work!

  1. All that accomplishment, and there is, as far as I can tell, no way for the users to contact this company and provide input — not even about the Genome Project. This morning, Pandora played for me a piece by Haydn and gave as its title “Work.” That tells me there is still a great deal to be done. Giving the user the title “Work” is giving the user a useless products. I hope somebody somewhere is giving Pandora input about exactly what does to be done.

  2. Congratulations on the IPO! I have been a Pandora user for about two years. I enjoy hearing new music through the service. Lately, I have been using the service more and I have begun to notice that there seems to be a pool of mainstream music with which I am familiar that you seem to draw from. That is to say, that each Station I create seems to repeat the same songs. What is the best way around this issue other than continually adding more stations?

  3. I’m absolutely thrilled to have access to such an awesome media millenium! PAnDoRa you have initiated a love of eternal Gratitude by me. Keep on doing what you skies be the limit I support you 100% now & Always. Sincerely Yours. BOO STUCKEY

  5. you gies should really make an app or something for the straight talk phones

  6. When is pandora gonna start streaming audio books? com’on Pandora, lets get audio books on here. Start a cloud audio book program please

  7. You have listed the song “I’ve Got Dreams to Remember” w/bio for Gary U.S.Bonds!,when it OBVIOUSLY Otis Redding!!
Do you guys actually listen to this stuff?
    Mistakes withstanding, this is a music web site and should strive for better control of accurate info.{Think EMAIL!}
Google the title and see what YouTube says!
    “Uncle Walt” Rodriguez
    PS: Yes,I am a pro.

  8. I’m a long-time Pandora user, and have converted dozens of people over. I love it. I want to see you guys succeed, and do so wildly. To do so, you need to work better to monetize your product.
    1. Get in the business of selling the downloads when people like the song. Screw Amazon and Apple and getting a tiny cut. There’s got to be a way where I can easily click a button, pay YOU for the song and you deduct credits from an account. You’ll make more money, and it’ll be a better experience for me than having to go through a third party.
    2. Create tiers of subscriptions:
    – Free: 40 amount of hours per week, with ads (like you have now).
    – Basic: $10-15 per year, unlimited hours, fewer ads
    – Pandora One: What you have now
    – Pandora Premium: $X More than Pandora one, includes Y amount of song downloads included, as well as a few more perks you can identify (e.g., contests, etc.). This will encourage buying songs here on Pandora, and get people used to buying here.
Come on Pandora! Get to work getting rich off your incredible product! Let us help us help you get there!

  9. Station details aren’t loading the seed info (artist and music) shows up as blank no matter what.

  10. just came here to meet my children and was thrilled to bits when my daughter showed me how to listen to hindi songs via pandoras.Thank you so much and all the best to you!

  11. Very nice. We are proud of you.
By the way, The iPad version of Pandora is drop dead gorgeous and a joy to use. Cheers to Pandora for having it available so fast. Keep on good work!

  12. I like it I would like to know how to change the stations and not just get one could you tell me how to do that?. Thanks that would be much appreciated. It is one hell of a bad ass app keep up the good work thanks again.

  13. Hey guys here’s something I just wanna throw out there. I accidentally gave a thumbs down on a song I really like and now it’ll never be played again and the computer thinks I don’t like it’s genome. There should a list of likes and dislikes in case you messed up.

  14. Recently we purchased a Ford Edge which came with a free subscription to Sirius. Found the Sirius sound seriously bad – very tinny and annoying. Fiddled with the bass, mid-tone and treble adjustments and just couldn’t find any pleasing combination…and then my husband reminded me that we could play Pandora in the car via our smartphones and bluetooth.
Pandora sound was so much better! What a difference. So much richer.
Hoping that Pandora, Ford and Microsoft will get Pandora synched with the Edge so that we can have our selections on the car display.

  15. You’re “radio” is a joke. I Spent a half an hour waiting to hear the band I created the station for to no avail. Furthermore, limiting the skip option to a mere few songs doesn’t sound very free to me.

  16. Great job!!! I learned of Pandora from a co-worker, and love it!! Except for one thing- My security setting on my computer changes to a negative everytime I log on. This should be a secure site if so many people are using it. Otherwise, I LOVE the fact that I, and my 12 yr old daughter can create our own stations. She hates my 80’s metal station:)lol
    Keep up the great work.

  17. I just downloaded Pandora. My husband kept telling me to but since I usually prefer instrumental piano music, I didn’t expect there to be anything for me, as a stay-at-home mom who likes to relax with my music. Wow. I was so wrong. Have listened all morning and LOVE the songs I’ve never heard of. Yay! Thank you!

  18. I find satisfaction in pressing my mute button when an ad starts to play. Almost as much as sizing my window so that I don’t see any ads.
So I end up with an ad free experience without paying any premium prices. Not hard to do.
I know you have freemium model, that combines advertising and subscriptions. I guess my main point is that your ads seem really poorly targeted and annoying, and I wish you’d innovate as much in the area of advertising as you have elsewhere.

  19. Here’s a suggestion…One of my colleagues here at the office heard the song Hungry Like the Wolf playing on Pandora and mentioned this song reminded her of the movie Big Fat Liar and the blue pool water seen that played this song. We immediately Googled this on YouTube and had a great laugh. You should find a way to show what movies a song played in during your airing with the ability thru a Netflix like provider to immediatly rent it. I know in our society of wanting everyting right now, I would’ve jumped at the opportunity had it existed today. Plus, it creates another advertising revenue stream for Pandora! For what’s it worth.

  20. haha here’s a joke: pandora’s song bank…
no offense i just need an outlet to say that pandora needs to add Cunning Linguists to it’s database.
I thought Pandora was diversified to not need feedback like this
Love all yall listenin to this site,
    Jim

  21. While I’m glad that you will have a better time at keeping food on the table, as I know that Pandora has had financial difficulties, I have to say that I’m a bit concerned about the future of Pandora. Publicly Traded companies tend to have the problem that they are at the mercy of the share-holders, and the type of share-holder that get to have controlling interest tend to not care about anything but profit. Do you have any way of ensuring that Pandora’s functionality serves the desires of the Pandora Team and Pandora’s listeners, instead of simply being altered to maximize profit?

  22. Hey founder dude,
Why is it lately i pick a station an then an hour later its playin music completely unrelated to what i picked!!!?
    Its really frustrating!

  23. Do U guys think hearing the same commercial for NetFlix endlessly endears ure patrons to either U or ure sponsor?
Or for auto insurance. I have no car!
So a recommendation; Make a list of ure sponsors/products & allow us to select… just like we do the music, what we “mite” be interested in… unless what I am hearing is the full extent of ure sponsorship. In which case U R wasting ure time & our patience in endlessly regurgitating the same 3? commercials, Repeatedly…

  24. Pandora has finally become a traded stock. I’m buying as much as i can. As soon as I get pandora in my car it’s goodbye XM!!

  25. i love pandora, been using it for almost 8 years now, now if i cld listen on my phone it’d be awesome! i have a samsung flight II just fyi *wink wink* lol

  26. Hello Pandora. Im glad for the milestone. Getting up there with the big boys eh? Im glad that Pandora was made, a few months ago I just ran out of songs to listen to. Then I was told about your awesome site. I have been using it ever since! I was curious if you guys were considering making a Pandora App or something for the HTC Windows Phone 7 from T-Mobile. It would be great to have some of your great music to listen to on the go. I know this probably costs money. But im just hoping you guys could look into this.
    Thanks!

  27. I am in love with this service. I recently installed Pandora on my B&N nook (1st gen) and liked it so much that now I use it on my laptop and on my desktop at work (with my employer’s approval, of course). Adding comedians to the mix is icing on the cake.

  28. I am removing Pandora from my Blackberry. Everytime I try to use the service it is constantly buffering and shutting down for no reason. I am tire of the frustration and am done with it.

  29. I was just turned on to this medium and am really enjoying the freedom to choose my style (Contemporary Jazz). I just lost our only broadcast station in Orlando. I was faced with Sat. radio and now have this medium. EXCELLENT !!!!

  30. Howdy
I am enjoying your new view, but I miss the “Bookmark” option for songs and artists. I hope to see it on the new format.
    Thanks!
    a big fan

  31. I am thankful for someone like you for allowing someone like myself to enjoy your station.I’m on a fixed income and can’t really afford extra bill’s,so I’m truly thankful for people like you who aren’t out for the mighty buck. When thing’s change I will be honored to join and again I say THANK’S your loyal listener Eddie.
