Profiles

Dear Listeners,

privacy_settings_popup_4.jpg

We’ve just updated our site to make it easier for you to find and adjust your privacy settings. We thought it was important to make this adjustment to better reflect the realities of the internet today. If you’re a returning listener you’ve probably already seen a reminder about your Pandora profile page, something we’ve offered since we launched.

This reminder provides you with the immediate opportunity to see your profile, make it public, private, or learn more. If you click on ‘Learn More,’ you’ll be taken to some FAQs.

New listeners will see a similar message when they register and we’re in the process of sending emails to the folks who listen to Pandora exclusively on mobile devices, encouraging them to access their Pandora account on a computer to check out our new privacy features.

All profile pages on Pandora now have a prominent ‘Privacy Settings’ link on the upper right. These settings let you specify how public you want your profile to be and, if you’re a Facebook user – whether or not you’d like to import your information from Facebook to Pandora.

We’re big believers in the social aspect of music discovery and sharing and want to make it as easy as possible, but we also want to make sure we respect each listeners’ personal comfort when it comes to this. It is our sincere hope that this new format does just that!

As always – we welcome your feedback about this. It’s a very important issue to us and we want to get it right.

Thanks for taking the time to read this through – and keep on listening!

  1. Pandora is absolutely AWESOME! Coudos to you Tim for coming up with this! I have to agree though would love to be able to search genres!!! A very special Thanks to you! =)

  2. Hi Pandora,
I’m sorry to bring this up, but I have one issue with pandora up-why are there trojan ads on pandora. I have to say that these are pretty embarassing, andI actually had to hide my computer from my friend as the pandora screen came up . This is heightened by the fact that tere is a link that says, “laubnch video.” Please, I beg you, take these ads away. I may be a prude, but I know I haven’t lost the art of blushing or being flustered by such ads.
    Thanks,
    Kathleen

  3. I’ve been using Pandora for a while on my computer but now every time I load it, the page is stuck that says did you know about your profile page? and it is really annoying because I cant get it to go away and i cant click on anything so its just stuck on one radio station.

  4. I cannot find the “thumbs up/down” nor the NOW PLAYING song – where do I go to see these 2? Thanks

  5. Hey Pandora
    WAKE UP!
I have had two incidents today where the artist did not match the bio.
The first was a group called Caravan, a very good rockabilly outfit. The bio was about an all girl Gospel group. Not the same.
The second was music from Ben Webster, with a bio about Oscar Peterson! Love Oscar, but not what I was looking for.
Someone smoking something in the head office up there or what?

  6. A friend of mine just told me about Pandora last night. I find R. Carlos Nakai the best to meditate to and fall asleep to at the end of a long day. I noticed it played only 3 or 4 songs before it automatically shut off. I did not want to disturb my meditation, so, I just continued in silence, but was annoyed nonetheless. When I looked at the laptop in the morning, there was some sort of comment that Pandora asked if I was sleeping or even still at the computer. Why doesn’t Pandora continue to play for at least one to two hours at bedtime? That would be my primary time of usage – what is my best way of handling this?

  7. From the Wall Street Journal:
“Both the Android and iPhone versions of Pandora, a popular music app, sent age, gender, location and phone identifiers to various ad networks.”
    This is really, really terrible.

  8. Hi Tim. I love this app!! My only problem with it is every time I try to QUIT it, it locks up my LG VORTEX. Any suggestions??? gettiung tired of hard booting every time.

  9. How DO you get rid of those Trojan ads on the right. I just got this new computer and I feel IE has built a profile of websites and data I search and now I get these ‘less desirable’ adsites that I wish not to be displayed. What must I do to get different ads to appear? (eg., ads appear on medical issues I prefer not to have appear for my children to see). Do I need to RESET my Internet Explorer Options or should I choose a less invasive browser. The age of privacy is diminishing to a point where we’ll be exposed to everyone.

  10. I’m having the same problem as Garry. When I quit Pandora my LG Vortex is locking up and I’m having to either shut it down (which takes forever) or remove the battery. I love Pandora but this is getting old.
