WEBCASTING BILL PASSED !!

This evening the Senate approved passage of HR7084. Hooray! We still have to finish up the negotiations, but now the table is set.
Thanks to everyone for your incredible support over the past few days. It was just extraordinary. We had some terrific allies on the Hill; a hearty thanks to our sponsors on the House side – Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) pictured on the floor below, and Donald Manzullo (R-IL), and Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Sam Brownback (R-KS) who shepherded the bill through the Senate. And a special thanks to Representative Howard Berman (D-CA) for his key role as Chairman of the IP Subcommittee.
Behind all the activity within the halls of congress was the tireless advocacy by you, our listeners. None of this would have been possible without your overwhelming public support. Your voice was a constant reminder to everyone involved in this process about the importance of internet radio to music lovers and musicians alike. Your level of involvement was unprecedented. We are eternally grateful.
Thank you again for your amazing support. We will continue to keep you apprised as we work diligently to complete the process.

  1. Thank you so much for an amazing way to listen to your favorite music. When my daughter sent this to me, I went through all the steps but not too much further. The music is great! Then I thought, wow, what a great thing and wish I could use this in my home for entertaining. And low and behold you have connections for that as well. I am souly impressed by your music and all this entails..THANK YOU!!!!

  2. Glad to see that our participatory democracy works from time to time!
Best of luck with the negotiations. Hopefully there’s plenty more Pandora for a long time!

  3. Congratulations, Tim, and all of us. Pandora has introduced me to a lot of new music (new to me, anyway), and I really value it. I wish you luck, and compliment you on Pandora’s excellent performance and user experience, too.

  4. I am happy everything is working out! This service is the greatest way to find new music and old music that i have forgotten about or just never got played on old fashioned Fm-SatRad cant even compare when it comes to the music!!

  5. I can’t even begin to express how relieved I am that Pandora won’t be shutting her doors anytime soon.
Here’s hoping you’re able to negotiate your way into a royalty schedule which allows you to operate for years to come.
And thanks for offering such a fantastic service. There’s truly nothing like Pandora anywhere else on the Internet.

  6. Finally!! This is a huge win-win. I can’t even tell you how much new music I have discovered and purchased through Pandora. I assume this benefits Pandora via the click-throughs, and the artists, writers adn record companies by increased sales.
Hint: Pandora needs to be able to take even more advantage of this by allowing 1-click purchases rather than requiring you go to bookmarks then do it.

  7. I’m so happy to hear the wonderful news! I would truly be lost without Pandora. Its amazing that the music industry doesn’t realize how huge of an opportunity web radio like pandora is. I have found so many new artists and purchased their CDs because of pandora. I hope you take advantage of this!
Thank you for being here . . . I’d be lost in my long hours of studying if it weren’t for y’all!!!
    much love and God Bless!

  8. Nobodies paying attention to this because everyone’s to busy listening to Pandora before it’s supposedly shutdown!!! Well have no fear Pandora is here to stay!!

  9. Yeah, i saw that nutsie ad earlier. Just for the sake of argument i decided to take a look and i gotta say that it sucks. It might succeed anyway because it’s marketed towards the kind of consumer that readily eats up that sort of thing. It’s basically all mainstream crap with no variety like pandora has.

  10. One BIG word YEA! Congratulations to you hard working people at Pandora, and congratulations to all Pandorians for making this become a victory. I love it when our tax dollars work to our favor. There are good web sites and then there are great websites. You guys are truly one of the greatest

  11. Great now lets get on that automated sheet music (tab) app everyone so desparatly wants but doesn’t realize. I should be able to listen to a song while at the same time play it straight from the dynamically generated tab in the pane at the bottom. I mean I did install your plugin right! Just kidding you guys do a great job – for humanity, thank you!

  12. great for everone in the land of the free, what about those in the UK who lost their service last year. The competition are managing to broadcast online, i.e. last fm, why still no pandora?

  13. I cheered when I heard this bill passed. Good luck in the negotiations!
I have discovered and rediscovered so many wonderful artists thanks to Pandora. I still like owning CDs and have added lots of great music to my collection.
My brother never fails to remind me that putting him onto Pandora was the best birthday present I ever gave him. And gratitude from a younger brother is truly a rare thing ;-)

  14. Dear Tim,
We met a while back when you came to the Las Vegas meeting. Still wear the shirt!!
I’m so glad that your hard work and all your hordes of friends, your listeners, have helped save Pandora! You are very dedicated to Pandora and we are very dedicated to you !!
I spoke to a lot of friends outside the USA, and they ALL want to have access to Pandora. I hope that, when you have time, you will be able to go world wide! Please keep me informed so that I can tell them. Kindest regards to you and your crew.

  15. I just got a thorough email from Inslee explaining the bills and his thoughts.
Seems like he has his head screwed on straight.
How about Obama and McCain? Any positions?
Tried to find a way to forward it to you, but assume you have gotten it also (and probably many others.)
I thanked him for being a “terrific ally.”
    Good luck with negotiations.

  16. This looks like a good step – what can we do to get you back on the bandwidth in places like the UK?
I’m tired of artists getting punished for others’ greed. Long live free internet radio! (but with little anarchy, please :) ).
    Congrats and best of luck!

  17. This is excellent news indeed… It just seemed so silly.
    1. I listen to Pandora
    2. I hear a band/musician I never heard before
    3. Me likey.
    4. I bookmark it, revisit it, and subsequentially, BUY IT.
    5. Natch.
    A no-brainer, yes?
    No.
Luckily….some people on the senate are NOT no-brainers….
    We love you.
